Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2502: Chapter 2503: Return to Tianyun (69)

Both of them have been married for almost half a year, and Su Xin understood why he was behaving this way, immediately blushing.

But she still opened her mouth, very softly and very softly said, ”At night, now it’s still daylight...”

”Alright.” Tao Ming Ye dared not kiss her again, nor dare to embrace her, and just let her go.

...

Due to Madam Huo being at the Tao Mansion, based on the principles of hospitality, plus Tao Cheng Yin, the patriarch, had specifically instructed to treat this elderly lady well, Mrs. Cao, even if unwilling, would still come to Tao Ming Ye’s courtyard daily, warmly entertaining Madam Huo.

Although Madam Huo lived comfortably at Tao Mansion, no matter how comfortable, it couldn’t compare to her own home, so after three days, Madam Huo returned home.

Meanwhile, Su Xin having passed the Martial Talent exam, still the top scorer, was being eagerly discussed in the streets and alleys, taverns, and tea houses of the Imperial City.

After all, throughout history, no one remembers the second place; everyone remembers the first.

The Imperial City is under the Son of Heaven’s domain, with Su Xin being discussed so enthusiastically, even the current Emperor—Su Muchen seated high in the Imperial Palace could hear about it.

Moreover, Su Xin was the only female scholar in martial arts in so many years, and her exceptional performance in the exam field earned praise from every examiner, which also reached the Emperor Su Muchen’s ears.

So, on this day, during the morning court session, after hearing the ministers’ reports, Su Muchen turned to Tao Cheng Yin.

”Minister Tao.”

Completely unexpected to be named by the Emperor, Tao Cheng Yin quickly stepped forward, nervous and uneasy, yet maintaining a particularly respectful posture, ”Your humble servant is present.”

Su Muchen smiled and said, ”I have heard about your eldest daughter-in-law even inside the palace, is she the sole daughter of the late General Huo?”

”Yes, Emperor.” Tao Cheng Yin was still a bit anxious; however, the Emperor actually brought up his daughter-in-law on the grand hall, and even named him regarding this matter, which made him deeply honored.

Liu Buli, Duke of Liu, stepped forward and said, ”Emperor, I have seen that child before. Although she was only six years old at that time, she was different from other children; even at a young age, she wielded sword exceptionally well.”

Liu Buli used to be a General, later was bestowed the title of Great General, and eventually conferred as Marquis. Until Xiyun was renamed to Tianyun, he was further honored as Lord Protector. Despite having only one arm, he was deeply trusted by both a king and the Emperor.

”No wonder...” Su Muchen nodded. Then, he further smiled and said, ”Tianyun has produced the first female scholar in martial arts, still the top scorer; I summoned the official who supervised the examination to inquire about this, and the examiners were full of praises for her. They said her archery skill was flawless, hitting the target in all nine shots, lifting the heaviest stone, drawing the hardest bow, and responding fluently beyond the standard of a scholar, even harder than the exam for scholars, possessing the talent of a top scholar—”

A talent of a top scholar?

The civil and military officials in the great hall were all greatly astonished.

Liu Buli was also very surprised, completely unexpected that the supervising official would dare to call Huo Xiner a talent of a top scholar. This claim should not be made lightly; if Huo Xiner didn’t eventually become the top scholar, those officials would be guilty of deceiving the sovereign.

If these officials dare to make such a statement, they must be certain that Huo Xiner could definitely achieve it, indicating how formidable Huo Xiner’s performance was during the exam...

Thinking this way, Liu Buli nodded inwardly: Later he must meet the young girl. Since Undefeated Huo passed away, he had little contact with the Huo family, and had no idea what the young girl had grown into.

Tao Cheng Yin was even more shocked, hurriedly kneeling down, not daring to lift his head: ”The officials supervising the exam were overly praising; your humble servant’s eldest daughter-in-law is not worthy, not worthy.”
