Chapter 2505: Chapter 2506: Return to Tianyun (72)

The three concubines and four children of common birth were all very curious about what was happening and promptly asked Tao Chengyin to speak up.

Although Mrs. Cao, Taoming Hai, and Wan Banyan were curious about the matter, they were more filled with jealousy and discomfort. They couldn’t stand seeing Su Xing and Taoming Ye having a happy occasion!

Tao Chengyin, having kept them in suspense long enough, finally spoke with a face full of honor: ”Xin’er, the matter of you topping the Martial Talent examination has reached the Emperor’s ears.”

Everyone, including Su Xing, was quite surprised. But considering this is the capital close to the Son of Heaven’s seat, and all the streets have been discussing her these days, it was not unusual for the Emperor to know.

Tao Chengyin continued, ”Today during the morning court, the Emperor spoke in front of all the officials in the great hall. He mentioned that the examiners said your examination results far exceeded the qualifying mark for Scholars, truly of champion caliber.”

Those present were taken aback once again.

”The Emperor even said,” at this point, Tao Chengyin’s face was even more radiant, especially proud, ”that he will make a special exception for you. As long as you top the provincial examination next year and again exceed the Scholars’ qualifying marks significantly, it will be considered that you have passed the Martial Imperial Examination Graduate directly; you will also go through the palace examination. If you pass that too, he will make a special exception to declare you as the Martial Champion, allowing you to bypass a year of exams, and bringing a talent to Tianyun a year earlier.”

Taoming Hai, upon hearing this, was on the brink of going mad with jealousy.

Mrs. Cao and Wan Banyan were full of envious jealousy, with flushed faces of disbelief.

The concubines and children of common birth, after hearing the news, all expressed congratulations to Su Xing.

Su Xing never expected the Emperor to know about her, let alone that he might make an exception for her next year. Initially stunned, she then became very happy. She originally thought it would take her at least three years to achieve Martial Champion. Now, she might accomplish it in just two years!

”Husband, the Emperor will make an exception for me!” Su Xing said excitedly to Taoming Ye, hugging him regardless of whether anyone else was around, causing those present to cough awkwardly.

Taoming Ye was accustomed to this and enjoyed Su Xing’s affectionate gestures towards him, and he was genuinely happy for his wife. He smiled gently and said, ”You’re already on the Emperor’s radar, and if you achieve Martial Champion, the future will be limitless for you.”

Before Su Xing could say anything, Wan Banyan remarked sarcastically, ”The provincial examination hasn’t even been taken yet, and you’re already talking about being a champion? Isn’t that a bit premature?”

The atmosphere thus became awkward.

Tao Chengyin immediately rebuked, ”If you don’t speak, no one will treat you as a mute!”

Wan Banyan hadn’t expected to be rebuked just for a single sentence, and her eyes reddened with grievance, yet she dared not retort against her father-in-law.

Tao Chengyin further said, ”Haier, take your wife back to your courtyard. Her gloomy attitude makes everyone uncomfortable.”

”Yes, Father.” Taoming Hai had no choice but to lead his wife away. He was nearly driven insane with jealousy, despite not having said a word; his wife truly knew no restraint.

Mrs. Cao was even more displeased with her daughter-in-law but said nothing, instead forcing a smile with Tao Chengyin and speaking many nice words, including: ”Xin’er’s name being mentioned by the Emperor in front of all the civil and military officials in the palace gives our family extra honor.”

Only then did Tao Chengyin’s expression relax, and he merrily said to Su Xing, ”Daughter-in-law, you must participate in the provincial examination next year and perform well. Strive to really have the Emperor make this exception, whether you become a Martial Imperial Examination Graduate or Martial Champion. Our Tao Mansion will gain more honor before others because of you.”
