Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2538: Chapter 2539: Return to Tianyun (105)

Taoming Ye sighed and said, ”Over these years, I’ve taken a lot of health remedies, including tonics, but none seems effective.”

Su Xing also said, ”Yes, Grandpa Gong and Grandma Gong, I think you should take the medicine back. Such good medicine would be wasted on us, which is truly a pity.”

”Anyway, I’ve given it to you. Whether you take it or not is none of my business, but you mustn’t return it to me. Look at how healthy I am. It’s because my son often prepares these tonics for me. I saw that your health isn’t good, so I kindly brought it to you. If you still stubbornly refuse, you’re really giving no face to this old man,” Gong Juechen said, pretending to be angry.

Ye Zhi stifled a laugh. She dared to bet her husband was definitely pretending to be angry. However, she had to hold it in and not embarrass her husband.

Taoming Ye had no choice but to accept it.

At this moment, someone happened to come and inform them that the meal was ready and invited Su Xing and the others to eat.

Upon hearing this, Su Xing and Taoming Ye hurriedly invited the two elders, Ye Zhi and Gong Juechen, to the dining hall for lunch.

Madam Huo also joined for lunch. Being the oldest and quite talkative, lunch was, without a doubt, very lively at the dining table.

After the meal, they moved to the flower room for tea and a casual chat.

Until they felt it was time to return to the Royal Palace, or else their daughter Gong Le would surely worry and come looking for them, Ye Zhi and Gong Juechen finally rose to bid farewell. Su Xing and Taoming Ye escorted them to the Huo family’s gate and insisted on giving them two bolts of cloth from the Jade Cloth Shop.

Once Ye Zhi and Gong Juechen returned to the Royal Palace, they kept one bolt for themselves and gave the other to An Jing.

Hearing that the cloth came from Taoming Ye, An Jing chuckled, ”You two had a meal at their place and even came back with two bolts of cloth from the Jade Cloth Shop. Isn’t that a bit much for them?”

Gong Juechen immediately grinned cheekily, ”Do you think I’m the kind of person who would take advantage of others? The bottle of medicine I gave him took me days to concoct, using rare herbs. I could easily get two hundred bolts of that cloth for it.”

”Then why play games like this?” An Jing was quite speechless.

”Don’t I have plenty of money and nothing to do,” Gong Juechen replied with a mischievous smirk.

Ye Zhi hummed, ”I’ll check on Taoming Ye again sometime. If anything goes wrong with that medicine, see if I let you off the hook!”

”Whether he takes it or not is still unknown. Besides, that medicine is really harmless, so Zhizhi, you can rest easy.”

Ye Zhi just huffed and said no more.

...

On the other side, Taoming Ye and Su Xing were in their room, each sitting on opposite sides of the table, both gazing at that small bottle of medicine placed in the center.

After a long while, Taoming Ye finally spoke, ”Xin’er, I think I better try a few pills. Who knows, it might be useful. Look at Grandpa Gong’s attire and the quality of this little porcelain bottle; it’s clearly not from an ordinary family. They likely wouldn’t harm me for no reason, genuinely seeing my poor health and specially sending over some of the tonic he regularly takes. Judging by Grandpa Gong’s robust health, this tonic might actually work.”

”No way!” Su Xing disagreed, ”We mustn’t have ill intentions, but we mustn’t drop our guard either; what if his intention is to harm you? I don’t want you ending up with any problems because of it.”

”I encountered Grandpa Gong unintentionally and didn’t offend him; he logically wouldn’t harm me.”

”Even so, it’s still not acceptable.”

”But I somewhat want to give it a try. If it proves effective, you wouldn’t have to worry about me every day, not even daring to let me leave the house.”
