Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2509: Chapter 2510: Return to Tianyun (76)

Su Xing cleared everything off the small kang table, and just as she finished, Hong Ye entered with two maidservants; one maidservant carried Crystal Cake, the other carried four cups of tea.

The Crystal Cake and tea were placed on the kang table, and then the two maidservants left, leaving only Hong Ye to stand by and attend.

The Crystal Cake was crystal clear and smooth white in color, glutinous yet chewy, refreshing and pleasant to taste.

Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing had just taken a bite when their eyes instantly lit up, both finding it delicious.

”This Crystal Cake indeed tastes different, truly refreshing.” Both praised it enthusiastically.

”If you think it’s delicious, have some more, there are plenty steamed.” Su Xing spoke to them while handing a piece to her husband.

As Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing were eating the fourth piece, a young servant rushed in to report: ”Young mistress, the sons of the Chief of Staff from the six ministries—Personnel, Household, Rites, Military, Justice, and Works—have all come together, curious about what the top-rated Martial Talent young mistress looks like and want to meet her. They are now in the front hall. Does young mistress want to go see them?”

Just the top rank wouldn’t suffice to draw so many sons of the Chief of Staff; surely it was due to what the Emperor said in the main hall yesterday. They probably want to establish good relations with her, for if she does achieve the top scholar rank in the future, it would mean more friends and more opportunities.

Su Xing and Taoming Ye were both very clear on this.

Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing also understood, yet couldn’t hold back their envy. As Commons Sons, whenever people of some status came, it was always their second brother, the legitimate son, who accompanied their father to entertain them. If their father wasn’t present, the second brother entertained them alone, never involving them, leading to their second brother knowing many people of status over the years, while they knew only a few.

Now, with so many distinguished sons wanting to meet their sister-in-law, how could they not be envious?

Su Xing initially didn’t want to meet them, considering refusing, but seeing Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing full of envy, she realized they rarely had the opportunity to interact with people of status.

So, Su Xing smiled at Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing: ”Third younger brother, fifth younger brother, why don’t you help sister-in-law entertain them? Sister-in-law, as a woman, shouldn’t go out to meet guests. If your older brother could accompany me, that would be fine, but didn’t he already go out today and is too tired, his health can’t take it, so it should be you going in my place.”

Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing immediately responded in alarm: ”How could this be proper? Even if sister-in-law can’t go, it shouldn’t be us two Commons Sons. Our second brother, the legitimate son, hasn’t gone out today and is at home; if anyone goes, it should be him. If we go, our parents would surely criticize us.”

Su Xing chuckled: ”You two just happened to be here at the moment, so I conveniently let you go. Besides, keeping those sons of the Chief of Staff waiting too long isn’t good. If your parents criticize you later, just explain this to them, they’ll undoubtedly not give you a hard time.” She paused, ”You are also grown up; it’s time to get to know people outside.”

Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing were very moved. Their sister-in-law was not only helping them meet more people of status but also easing their worries about possible repercussions.

With nothing left to worry about, Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing rose to head to the front hall to host those sons of the Chief of Staff.

”Wait.” But Su Xing stopped them.

Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing were quite confused, not understanding why Su Xing called them back.
