Chapter 2545: Chapter 2546: Return to Tianyun (112)

After Su Xing gave Taoming Ye a kiss, she asked with a smile, ”Husband, if we just leave like this, will Dad get angry?”

”He won’t be angry now. He’ll just be worried and anxious.” After a pause, he added, ”Until the day your results come out.”

Su Xing couldn’t hold back and laughed twice, ”You see how calm you are. I really don’t understand why Dad is so unsettled.”

Taoming Ye said, ”I have a lot of confidence in you.”

”That’s my husband!” Su Xing happily gave Taoming Ye another kiss, then hugged him and leaned her face against him, looking particularly sweet and happy.

Meanwhile, although Tao Chengyin was uneasy, when he saw his second son coming out of the examination hall, he still asked with concern, ”Haier, how was the exam?”

Taoming Hai kept his head down and didn’t say a word.

Tao Chengyin knew that he hadn’t done well, but didn’t blame him, instead he said, ”You can always take it again next year.”

Taoming Hai responded sulkily, ”Mm.” ℴ

...

This year’s provincial examination in the Imperial City was a bit strange. Everyone’s focus was no longer on the examination itself but on whether Huo Xiner could become the top scorer in this exam, and subsequently become the Martial Champion in the palace exam.

An Yiqing, who ran many gambling houses, took advantage of this opportunity. Before the exam even started, he had all the gambling houses start taking bets on whether Huo Xiner would unexpectedly become the Martial Champion this year.

Becoming the Martial Champion is certainly not that easy.

So, many people bet that Huo Xiner would not pass, and only a very small number bet that she would succeed.

No matter whether Huo Xiner passes or not in the end, the gambling houses would make a steady profit.

Regarding An Yiqing making another big profit for the national treasury, Su Muchen, that Emperor, was very pleased, praising An Yiqing as a talent.

Su Xing heard that many gambling houses in the Imperial City were betting on whether she would pass the exam to become the Martial Champion this year. Since she was confident in herself, she mentioned it to her husband, who immediately sent Ru Song to the gambling house to place a bet of ten thousand taels on her passing.

The odds were only ten to one against her passing, but a hundred to one if she did pass. This means if she became the Martial Champion this year, the ten thousand taels her husband bet would turn into a million taels.

She originally wanted to bet more, at least a hundred thousand taels, since she was so confident, but her husband said they should keep a low profile, not to attract too much attention, so they only bet ten thousand taels.

...

Royal Palace.

That evening, after everyone finished dinner, they sat together drinking tea and chatting.

As they chatted, An Yiqing smiled at Su Changyi and An Jing, ”Dad, Mom, do you want to place a bet on whether Huo Xiner can become the Martial Champion before the results come out? Big Brother and the others have all placed bets, but they’re all betting that Huo Xiner won’t pass. Even if she does well in the palace exam, the palace exam tests military strategies, and they all think Huo Xiner’s age means her strategies can’t be as strong as her martial skills.”

An Jing laughed, ”I feel like you’re underestimating her a bit. What’s wrong with being young? Some people are simply geniuses.”

An Yiqing immediately said, ”So, Mom, do you think Huo Xiner will pass?”

An Jing said, ”I didn’t say that. I just don’t support you setting up this betting game. But since you’re making money not for personal gain, your dad and I will just let you be.”

An Yiqing said, ”So, Mom, you’re not betting?”
