Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2547: Chapter 2548: Return to Tianyun (114)

Regarding the Emperor making an exception for Huo Xiner, allowing her to become a Scholar immediately, Wan Banyan was seething with anger. Anyway, she just couldn’t stand Huo Xiner having a good life.

Mrs. Cao felt both hatred and regret. If only she had let her son marry Huo Xiner back then, how great it would have been.

Taoming Hai felt jealousy and regret. Jealous that Huo Xiner had become a Scholar, and perhaps might even become the top scorer this year. He regretted his blindness in the past, marrying Wan Banyan, who had only a noble status but no ability, instead of Huo Xiner, the precious gem covered in dust. ℯℯ𝑙.

He even gave this precious gem, Huo Xiner, to his most disliked legitimate eldest son!

”Xin’er, oh Xin’er,” Tao Chengyin was overjoyed, but also extremely worried, ”If you pass the imperial exam, that’s naturally great; our ancestors will bask in your glory. But if you can’t pass, you shouldn’t force it. Remember, you must be careful during the exam; you mustn’t speak recklessly in front of the Emperor. Saying the wrong thing could lead to beheading, and possibly our Tao family might also get implicated.”

Su Xing smiled and said: ”Father, don’t worry, I will be careful and cautious at the time.”

”That’s good, that’s good.” Although he said this, Tao Chengyin still felt uneasy. He added, ”The Ministry of Rites will also be involved in the imperial exam, and I am the Assistant Minister of Rites, so I will certainly be present. I will naturally know in advance some of the procedures, and if I can tell you, I surely will. In any case, be careful with your words; it’s better to not pass the exam than to say something wrong.”

Seeing Tao Chengyin so worried, Su Xing couldn’t help but find it amusing but still repeatedly agreed: ”Yes, yes, yes, Father, don’t worry, I have really remembered everything. You have reminded me of all this many times.”

Taoming Ye smiled and said: ”Father, Grandma Xing’er sent a lot of military books through someone, and there’s only a month left before the military strategy test for the imperial exam. You shouldn’t keep nagging; let Xin’er prepare well.”

”Yes, yes, yes, look at me; I’m so worried that I forgot the most important thing. Xin’er, quickly go back and study. I also brought some military books. Although they are common ones in the market and may not necessarily be useful, you should take a look if you have time. Maybe they will be useful.”

”Thank you, Father.”

Regardless of whether Taoming Hai and the others were happy or not, Su Xing and Taoming Ye returned to the courtyard where they lived.

Since finishing the township exam, Su Xing and Taoming Ye moved back to the Tao family.

Looking at the piles of books on the table that seemed to be military books but only touched on the surface with no real tactics, Su Xing only flipped through two before setting them aside.

She had served as a soldier for many years in modern times and had been exceptionally selected into the special forces in just her second year. Having loved this field since childhood, she naturally had read a lot about military books.

And those military books were far more useful than the ones in front of her now, from both ancient and modern times.

Especially The Art of War by Sun Tzu, she could even recite it. Of course, it helped that The Art of War only had over six thousand words.

”Why did you stop reading?” Seeing her toss the books aside and start eating pastries, looking like she didn’t want to glance at the books again, Taoming Ye poured her a cup of tea with a warm smile and asked.

”These are useless, not as good as what my father taught me when I was young.” Then, she giggled as she handed half-eaten pastry to his mouth. After seeing him take a bite and eat it, she giggled again and said, ”Husband, don’t worry, I certainly have no problems.”
