Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2525: Chapter 2526: Return to Tianyun (92)

Ye Zhi laughed. ”Since you’ve got a point, I’ll let it slide. Still, it is pretty strange.”

An Jing agreed. ”I think it’s strange too.” Then she turned her head to look at Su Changyi and asked, ”Husband, do you know where Meng Lanqing spent all that money?”

Su Changyi shook his head, indicating he didn’t know.

Gong Juechen said with a grin, ”One of these days I’ll catch Lanlan and give him a good beating, beat him until he can’t fight back. Maybe then he’ll talk.”

An Jing poured cold water on him. ”You really dare hit him? Se Se will never let you off.”

Ye Zhi said, ”If you dare hit him, I’ll cook you a meal sometime.”

Gong Juechen’s shoulders drooped at once. ”As much as I want to eat your cooking, forget it. Se Se is a hassle. If I really beat up her husband, she’ll definitely stick to me and make me let her husband beat me up ten times to even the score.”

”Haha.” An Jing burst out laughing and nodded. ”Honestly, that really might happen.”

Ye Zhi took the chance to complain. ”That’s just how Se Se is, seriously. Sometimes I really feel like she’s not your blood sister.”

Gong Juechen immediately said, ”If she weren’t my blood sister, I’d have slapped her to death a long time ago!”

”Pfft.” Ye Zhi and An Jing were instantly amused into laughter. It showed just how badly Gong Juechen had been bullied by his sister. As an older brother, he tolerated her this much only because she was his real sister. If she weren’t, Gong Juechen probably really would give her a slap and send her to her death.

Just then, Ye Zhi happened to catch sight of a tiny shop with its entrance packed full of people. She immediately pointed at it and said to An Jing excitedly, ”Boss, that should be the Glutinous Rice Cake Shop Jiaoqiao mentioned, the famous one in the Imperial City. Let’s go buy some and try it, see if it really tastes different from the other shops.”

As she spoke, Ye Zhi was already about to head toward that shop.

But An Jing grabbed her. ”Jiaoqiao also said that shop only makes a fixed amount every day. Once it sells out, they don’t make more. Look how many people are crowded around it. We probably won’t be able to buy any.”

”Not necessarily. Maybe we’ll manage to get some. Come on, let’s go over and see. I really, really want to try it.” This time, Ye Zhi dragged An Jing along toward the shop.

An Jing walked along being dragged by Ye Zhi, smiling helplessly as she went, and at the same time reached back to pull her husband along. Even though her husband would follow her anyway, she would still subconsciously keep checking whether he was right by her side.

Gong Juechen trailed at the back, and seeing An Jing pull Su Changyi along, he said sourly, ”Zhizhi, you pull me too. Seeing Jingjing always acting like she’s afraid Changyi will get lost makes me feel bad, like you don’t care at all if I get lost.”

An Jing laughed again.

Ye Zhi also found it funny. ”You’re a grown man and you still need me to pull you?!” Even though she said that, Ye Zhi had already reached out and taken Gong Juechen’s hand.

Gong Juechen instantly broke into a broad smile.

Ever since women could serve as officials, join the army, and sit the imperial exams, the customs in Tianyun had become much more open. Besides, anyone could see they were two married couples, so no one thought it strange at all to see them walking hand in hand toward the Glutinous Rice Cake Shop.

They had just walked up beside the Glutinous Rice Cake Shop when they heard a particularly loud voice rise from the crowd gathered at the shop window: ”Everyone, please make way, make way, let my young master out. My young master’s in poor health, please make way, I beg you, please make way. Thank you, everyone.”
