Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2518: Chapter 2519: Return to Tianyun (85)

Su Xing first spent two days at the Huo family’s place taking care of Taoming Ye before she started training at the training ground.

And on the day Su Xing started training, Su Muchen finally arrived at the secluded residence where Su Changyi lived in seclusion.

”Imperial Uncle, Imperial Aunt.” As soon as Su Muchen saw Su Changyi and An Jing, he was about to kneel to pay his respects, but was promptly helped up by Su Changyi and An Jing together.

An Jing smiled and said, ”You’re already the Emperor, how can you still kneel to us?”

Su Muchen smiled and said, ”Imperial Uncle and Imperial Aunt have been awake for many months, yet I, Muchen, have not come to visit. Besides, I am still of the younger generation—this is only proper.”

Once they were all seated, An Jing then asked, ”What brings you here?”

Su Muchen cast a glance at Su Yi Jing and the others, then smiled politely and said, ”My imperial father and imperial mother have both passed on, and I, Muchen, have missed Imperial Uncle and Imperial Aunt greatly these past years, so I came specially to invite Imperial Uncle and Imperial Aunt to return to the Imperial City, so that I, Muchen, may properly fulfill my filial duty.”

An Yizhi burst out laughing and said, ”Father, Mother, Mu Cheng Bro is not here because he wants to be filial to you. He must have seen that us brothers are all here and that we’ve dumped all of Tianyun on him! All these years, they haven’t been stingy with their letters to us. No matter how nicely he dresses it up, that’s what he means!”

An Jing immediately laughed and scolded, ”How can you talk about your Mu Cheng Bro like that! No manners at all!”

Su Muchen wasn’t angry; he drawled slowly, ”Previously Imperial Uncle and Imperial Aunt had not awakened, and as their sons, they naturally had no such thoughts. I, Muchen, can understand that. But Imperial Uncle, Imperial Aunt, Tianyun is vast, and it’s not mine alone. Now that you’re both awake, and you still choose to do this—does that really sit right?”

An Yiqing went to sit beside Su Muchen, slung an arm over his shoulder, and joked with a grin, ”Bro, it’s not like we’re here just having fun. We’re here serving our father and mother. They gave birth to us and raised us—such great kindness; how can that not be reason enough?”

Su Muchen said coolly, ”Serving one’s parents is of course what you ought to do, but that is not your only responsibility. You could clearly both serve your parents and help govern the realm—why insist on choosing only one?”

Jing Xing, Qing Yun, Qilin, and Zhi—the seven of them—immediately all fell silent, not saying a word. It wasn’t because of Su Muchen, but because it was their parents who wanted to live in seclusion here; as for them, they could stay here, or they could go to the Imperial City.

In any case, their duty was to serve their parents; wherever their parents were, that was where they would be.

Seeing that none of Su Yi Jing and the others spoke, Su Muchen then said to An Jing and Su Changyi, ”Imperial Uncle, Imperial Aunt, don’t misunderstand, I, Muchen, am not blaming you. I only think that in life there is always gain and loss. If you give up the secluded life, then you will gain the reunion of the whole family. Look, Brother Zhi is here, but Mo Ran is in the Imperial City serving as Vice Minister—”

Before Su Muchen could finish, An Yizhi said unhappily, ”Talk about yourself if you want, don’t drag in me and my Mo Ran! You make it sound like it’s my father and mother’s fault that my wife and I are living apart—how am I supposed to swallow that?”

Su Muchen still didn’t get angry; he knew exactly what An Yizhi was upset about, so he stopped singling any one of them out and instead said, ”This family is only truly complete at New Year, and during the three years when Imperial Uncle and Imperial Aunt were in a coma. If Imperial Uncle and Imperial Aunt could come to the Imperial City, then the family would be complete every day—wouldn’t that be wonderful?”

Thinking of how, ever since they woke up, Lu Moran, that seventh daughter-in-law, had gone back to the Imperial City to serve as Vice Minister, and Qi Linglong, that fifth daughter-in-law, had also returned to the military camp in the Imperial City to serve, An Jing let out a sigh.

This family truly had very few times when everyone was all together.
