Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Lansendel never regretted creating the so-called ’Dawn Calamity’.

He was well aware that his friends in the Elf Empire Royal Family initially agreed to help him push forward this matter because there was indeed a chance for success.

And a very high one at that.

Moreover, Lansendel provided them with a final assurance... Although for the Elves, it would be boring to squat in the Divine Kingdom, after all, the entire nation moved together, life wouldn’t be too different, even their usual old adversaries came along, so life wouldn’t be too monotonous.

This was an outcome they could bear.

In fact, the reason they ultimately failed was that they overlooked that Toril belonged to some entity... and this entity was not as generous and benevolent as the Main God Coron.

Lansendel had actually considered that AO might stop him, but he never expected AO to go to such extremes, even risking offending Coron!

Don’t think Coron truly did nothing, happily accepting the little benefits AO offered.

From that point on, neither Coron nor the Elf Deity System ever took action for the safety of Toril!

Yet before that, Coron personally withstood invasions from the Bottomless Abyss and Hell Devils to protect Toril!

The fact that the Supreme Forest in Toril ended up in such an unbearable state was largely related to this Father of Elves gradually shifting his focus away from Toril.

Although Elves seem to be everywhere in Toril now, compared to the past elf era, today’s Elves can only be considered settlements.

The more pure-blooded Elves had actually mostly relocated their entire clans.

The Moonflower Royal Family barely managed to be called a kingdom in the distant elf era... It’s not without reason that they can’t control those Elves who moved from all over the world.

Those Sun Elves’ Imperial Fleet, even a fleet captain could suppress the Moonflower Royal Family in terms of bloodline.

Moreover, Coron did think about relocating this Elven Royal Family that possesses a trace of his bloodline away from Toril, which is no longer a habitat for Elves, but the Moonflower Royal Family had their own insistence... In the end, only the Sorrowful Queen, who was honest and never aspired to become a king’s husband, remained.

Unfortunately, a temporary stroke of luck is useless in the struggle for royal power.

In the end, even without leaving Toril, didn’t they still abandon Eternity Island, which possessed the Puzzle Lock?

This Father of Elves is a being with his own principles... If you don’t cherish the opportunities he offers, he won’t turn back to you.

Not like they are his own sons.

And a patriarch who cares for his kin as meticulously as Coron, Lansendel has only seen this one.

The Dwarves’ Guardian God who seems gentler still doesn’t care for their tribe as much as Coron!

The key is, Coron doesn’t care whom these Elves worship.

It was at that time when some rational deities truly understood that Toril belonged to AO.

It certainly doesn’t belong to them.

Heh~ Lansendel wasn’t surprised that the Toril Gods only cared about the faith of the Toril people, completely indifferent to their lives.

If he were in their place, he wouldn’t want to exhaust himself for someone else’s world, right?

Compared to entities like Shuni or even Mystra, a deity like Lansendel wouldn’t be subject to AO’s constraint... like the crisis leading to the Divine Descent of gods.

Lansendel, though created due to Celene’s actions, yet born more from the concepts of the Eternal Flame and the foundational notion of the Multiverse, actually has considerable freedom.

On the contrary, he can understand this: this world, for AO, has only one essential existence, which is Celene and Shaer.

All other deities are essentially parts of these two Goddesses’ power, the results of their tearing apart.

As long as those two remain, even if any deity reaches a point where resurrection is difficult, there is no need to worry.

If all else fails, those two Moon Goddesses can still reclaim them into their own hands.

Seeing everything clearly, and realizing that he cannot accomplish the things AO truly wants him to succeed in within AO’s controlled world, Lansendel thereafter became filled with disdain for all of Toril.

Though he would still be moved by the enthusiasm of the young ones, he really doesn’t treasure this world as he did in the past... occasionally taking action, because it’s interesting, not out of kindness.

Thus, Lansendel never thought that he actually cared.

Just like his current self, when speculating that AO again wants to use the entire world for his malicious experiments, a deep sense of revulsion arose in Lansendel’s heart.

Moreover, he would even stand with Cyric, whom he greatly disliked, and converse leisurely, just to spend a bit more time.

The night sky of that world, though not many stars, and the moon’s rays dim, the scenery is still quite nice.

And, dawn is coming.

Gradually calming his heart, Lansendel turned to look at the Greek Goddess colliding with the Double-headed Baboon: ”Ah, no wonder, my Undead Tribe friends once said, though known for wisdom, Athena’s combat prowess is absolutely not inferior to their so-called War God.

Moreover, a combat style imbued with wisdom, even when it’s the same clash of sword and shield, is always more pleasing to the eye.

Tsk tsk~ capable of contending with Dimogogan in terms of strength!

This isn’t the War God... What is the basis of the Greek Gods’ judgment on combat prowess?”

Cyric couldn’t help but look over too, then slowly spoke: ”In family-based deity systems, isn’t it always determined by the preferences of the God Master?

Just like the Netherworld, is Kranvo genuinely stronger than the previous few Grim Reapers?

”Jacob’s preferences are the most important.”

”Are you still dissatisfied with Kranvo?” Lansendel was somewhat curious, ”Both have died at your hands, and Midnight even handed over her Divinity to you. What more do you want?”

”Moreover, as for Midnight, it’s understandable, but Kranvo... aren’t you the one indebted to him?”

Kranvo, that guy, though arrogant and a fool infatuated with women, is indeed a true Knight.

Though he would also criticize some of Cyric’s actions that contradicted his beliefs, he never shortchanged Cyric of his rightful share!

In a small adventuring party, the Knight and Mage are a pair, the Priest is the Mage’s lapdog, and only one troublemaking, thieving rogue is an outsider... Cyric was merely ostracized, what’s the big deal?

Although Lansendel could understand Cyric’s excessive sensitivity due to his proud yet inferior personality, but... those few didn’t fare any better, and he even tricked Midnight out of the Goddess of Magic’s position; what more does Cyric want?

Cyric glanced lightly at him, wearing a contemptuous smile: ”Someone like Kranvo, worthy to be my enemy, the King of the Dark Sun?”

Lansendel’s eyelid twitched... Is this guy doing it intentionally?

Cyric’s tone clearly indicated that his greater hatred was toward Jacob, who granted him supreme power and then mercilessly stripped it away.

Lansendel could even slightly guess the method AO used to have Cyric come to his door... unrelated to the Sun, Cyric’s target is the Styx.

He wants to bypass Jacob, gain acknowledgement of the Styx in other worlds and then use it to leverage Jacob’s divine authority.

Before knowing about the dual core Sun, Cyric would only believe that the reminders from certain secret places were aimed at their common enemy... Jacob.

AO used quite a few tricks for this purpose.

The fate of former Grim Reapers... Toril’s observant ones all know where it originates.

To cloud Milko’s judgment, AO could even allow the construction of the infamous joke... Wall of the Faithless.

Lansendel internally scoffed.

He wouldn’t truly believe that AO wouldn’t want to kill two birds with one stone.

If Lansendel lacked sufficient vigilance and even wavered regarding this matter, he would definitely slip up in front of Cyric.

Cyric, so useful!

Without needing Lansendel to say much, this guy would rush forth... The title of the Dark Sun is certainly alluring enough for Cyric.

And Lansendel is merely the innocent blabber who misspoke.

In Toril’s history, aren’t there many such accidental incidents?

Anyway, Cyric willingly bears the guilt.

Who does he look down on?

Lansendel boredly watched Cyric: ”I won’t help you with anything.

As for Kranvo and Midnight, I don’t care.

But now, Edna is still my ally.

Until the Undead Tribe disappears from Toril, I shouldn’t have any conflict with her.”

Cyric glanced at that Dimensional Gate... The reason he couldn’t tolerate further and suddenly emerged, was because of that excessively fearsome life force.

And Cyric knew the location of this gate as well.

Without needing much thought, he could guess that Lansendel went to seek the World Tree.

Of course, he could also understand who could convey the message for Lansendel.

The Lord of Agleya, who brought the Undead Tribe, was known by almost all Toril Gods for his origins.

Moreover, he could grasp that the opportunity he needs lies with the descendants of that World Tree.

Cyric considered briefly; getting information from Lansendel would be too difficult.

Furthermore, this guy’s face clearly started showing impatience.

If he doesn’t want a beating... Actually, Cyric isn’t afraid of fighting Lansendel, but here in the Heavenly Mountain, that’s not advisable.

Though it seemed like only the two were speaking, many deities and strong ones were surely watching.

The key is, those shameless ones who would sneak attack him while shouting ’Eradicate Evil’ during his fight with Lansendel, Cyric can’t count on both hands.

Cyric silently glanced at Lansendel, then suddenly turned towards the Heavenly Mountain: ”Ah~ That goddess named Athena actually won!

Her shield is quite good~”

Cyric vanished instantly.

Lansendel merely frowned, standing in place.

Until Beelzebub cautiously asked: ”Could you move aside, esteemed Lord of Dawn?”
