Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Draculus’s understanding of the Multiverse is not that deep yet.

Therefore, he doesn’t know much about such peculiar situations as the Son of Fortune.

It was only when he went to those worlds to look for some people who shouldn’t be alive that he read some of their books and learned a bit about the related knowledge.

After all, it is already an open Devil World, and it suffers from endless attacks by demons from the Void, so the devils treat those who sincerely submit to them quite well.

The necessary knowledge is all given.

There are a few guys who gave up their humanity quite early, and Draculus indeed had to spend some effort when dealing with them!

He can’t just kill his own people and ignore the outsiders, right?

Although these guys do not pose much of a harm to those students of Draculus who went out later, in the very beginning, they cooperated with the devils to either kill or capture the first few batches of his disciples who left.

The devils truly understand human nature, but without the cooperation of those people, they wouldn’t know what mages from Teraxil desire most.

Because the few people he killed were top-tier combat forces even in those worlds, that’s why Draculus was being targeted.

Actually, being targeted is nothing much; he had been mentally prepared for it and had taken comprehensive measures.

However, it was unfortunate that he ended up encountering a Grand Duke with nothing to do, leisurely wandering in the world under Asmodeus’s domain.

But this luck was not the worst yet.

Draculus reluctantly convinced himself... before encountering Glaysia, he could say this with more confidence.

Not like now.

Especially upon discovering that Hill was also here, he felt even more that there was no need for him to come to this world and stir up trouble.

He even felt that he was just here to shield Hill from disasters.

In Draculus’s usual pride, he naturally believed... without his presence, Hill would be the one to attract Glaysia’s attention.

He actually didn’t think much of the mages in this world.

Of course, this has nothing to do with character or humanity; it’s just that as a mage specializing in alchemy, he looks down on this world’s spells and alchemy.

Hill, I guess, is the one who considers human nature.

Draculus blinked his eyes... So, Hill would take notice of this Gilbert and have dealings with him, naturally relating to the fact that Gilbert is indeed someone Hill considers worthwhile.

Those willing to deal with Hill must have a bottom line.

Otherwise, that Little Bear would rather detour than engage in straightforward dealings with Gilbert.

So, for some matters, he needs to adopt a different approach.

The contingency left at the Tower of Despair... seems it can’t be used.

Otherwise, if he really ends up causing trouble that led to Ruth’s demise due to his actions, that Gilbert might curse him.

Hill probably guessed something, and that’s why he specifically reminded him of Gilbert’s existence.

The curse from such an Envoy of the Netherworld is something even the Grand Duke of Hell is unwilling to endure.

It is a curse more terrifying than the Goddess of Misfortune Benshasha from Bitoryl.

Misfortune can be exhausted, but a weakened soul cannot.

Draculus moved his fingers, unable to help feeling uneasy: Hill discovered even such a hidden matter, so how could Glaysia’s little halo of desire go unnoticed?

Is that Bear pretending to be clueless?

Rommel couldn’t help but have his facial expression change... Could there be something he’s overlooked?

-----------------

”Teacher, I am back. The items were personally received at the door by Rommel Mage.” Returning from a trip to the trading center under Ruth’s Main Tower, Russell walked into the secret chamber where Hilbert was.

Maybe because the story on Rommel’s side temporarily concluded, the giant screen now displayed that conspicuous red airship.

Delphus, in the window, looked worse, perhaps due to being seriously injured, as his complexion was very bad and he looked even uglier.

Russell glanced at him and couldn’t help but twitch his eyebrows, turning his head away, not wanting to look anymore.

Hilbert looked at him and smiled, ”How can you not look just because you don’t like it?

Delphus’s facial changes are the only thing worth appreciating in this boring story.

Click~”

Russell was taken aback for a moment, then turned his head to carefully watch the giant screen.

Because Delphus lay groaning on that long couch in the living room and kept cursing his attendants from time to time, those attendants were not very willing to stay by his side either.

Only when he called for someone to do something for him would they cautiously send a scapegoat to do the task while enduring scoldings.

As for Aislin and Rosero, they naturally didn’t plan to come out at all.

Each had their own plans, so naturally they didn’t care what Delphus was up to, and with mutual vigilance against one another, they simply stayed in their own rooms.

Anyway, the position of the Defense Tower is right there, Aislin’s airship should follow the map to fly.

The biggest antagonist in this world is their Sia Tower, the enemies across the Styx have also been encountered... Whether it’s the dragon or the black-robed man, it’s obvious they didn’t plan to get entangled completely, otherwise, they wouldn’t have retreated so easily.

So, there’s no need to worry about being attacked again on the way.

Under such circumstances, Delphus mostly stays alone.

His face is always facing the back of the sofa... which means towards the window.

When Russell just walked in, he found that face had reached a new realm of ugliness, a new trend of ugliness... but since Delphus was inherently quite ugly, he didn’t really mind.

It was only after the teacher’s reminder that Russell realized: a weakened body indeed can make a person’s complexion worse, and sensory-wise, make them appear slightly uglier.

But not to the extent of being uniquely ugly.

But because he disliked Delphus, he etched this particularly ugly impression into his heart, so even if it was odd, he only glanced over it, not taking it to heart.

Russell gently bowed his head, ”I was wrong, teacher.

In the future, I will certainly be more cautious.”

Hilbert didn’t really mind this... he had gone through adolescence twice himself, clearly understanding that at this juncture, whether boy or girl, people’s most direct feelings generally start with the face.

Regardless of the person’s character, unbearable ugliness is intolerable.

Perhaps if the relationship reaches a certain point, appearance might no longer be an issue.

But if someone has only made a first impression in the heart, then no matter how kind they are or what else exists, they will choose to avoid the person just because of the word ’ugly’.

Young people in the Multiverse have actually improved a lot on this somewhat trivial yet straightforward emotional reaction, but they will still overlook many issues because of the other’s ugliness.

So, a kid under 20 being like Russell is already pretty good.

At least he noticed Delphus got uglier, just didn’t take it to heart.

”His body is pretty interesting.” After this period of observation, Hilbert finally understood Delphus’s issue.

”Teacher, is his face fake?” Russell’s first reaction was this.

”It’s not fake.” Hilbert chuckled, ”But he consumed some fruit that boosts the soul.

This fruit is delicious, can help a mage clear the soul and enhance the Mental Sea, just it has a side effect, which makes people uglier.

Moreover, because this fruit is a specialty that grows in the Deities’ realm, its energy is very abundant... so abundant that even a Ninth Ring Archmage could probably only digest a small portion of its energy.

But the fruit has another characteristic, which allows the energy to remain in the Mental Sea, slowly digesting.

Additionally, the remaining part can nourish the mage’s soul.

If the Mental Sea gets hurt, this fruit can quickly repair the mage’s Mental Sea.

Actually, it’s a really good fruit.

Just...”

Hilbert didn’t finish his sentence, but Russell understood, he couldn’t help but hiss, gazing at the giant screen, speaking incredulously: ”As long as you use its energy, you’ll get uglier?

Could it be?

Forever so ugly?”

Though life wasn’t entirely carefree, Russell, who already had quite favorable experiences in this world, couldn’t decide if he would eat such a fruit if he encountered it.

He could only vaguely think... Carpenter would probably rather die than eat it.

”People, when pushed to the brink, face isn’t actually that important.” Hilbert said indifferently, ”The fact that you can ponder whether to eat it proves your teacher has capabilities.

If it were Felis, at that moment, if someone asked him whether to use this fruit, guess what he’d do?”

Russell blinked, suddenly showing a happy smile, ”He would certainly eat it.

So, I’m really lucky to have a teacher in my life.”

Hilbert smiled helplessly, ”Huh~ you really know how to speak.”

Russell smiled with squinted eyes... as long as it’s truthful, their teacher is willing to listen.

Hilbert shook his head, bringing the topic back: ”Delphus might not necessarily have willingly eaten this fruit himself.”

Russell was taken aback, ”Could it be Sia Tower...”

”Sia Tower doesn’t have such good things!” Hilbert said firmly, ”Though this thing is quite whimsical, it does at least truly enhance a mage’s abilities.

The aftereffects might be troubling for youths but for elders at life’s limit, to continue living, who cares about ugliness?”

So, don’t treat it as a present from the Devil.”

Russell swiftly thought of another existence their teacher occasionally cringed at: ”That one, Lansendel?”

”Once had a Goddess of Fate girlfriend, the impact Lansendel had was truly profound!” Hilbert couldn’t help but exclaim, ”Such a fate-filled yet humorously cold fruit, only he could research it.”
