Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 600: Chapter 398: Hill Earns a Bit of Pocket Money

Fran had no interest in playing a guessing game with these people.

Knowing full well that Fran was a high-level mage, yet they sent up a booklet emitting such strong divine power fluctuations; the Gold Coin Commerce Guild probably guessed Fran’s identity.

Of course, that student of Santos.

Then that earl must also know Fran came with Hogan?

Hill stopped in his tracks, wanting to conduct an experiment, ”I have a few items I would like to sell, does your guild purchase such things?”

”Please wait in your room, I will go and call the appraiser immediately.” The maid bowed deeply and backed away more than ten steps before turning around and walking away quickly.

Fran thought for a moment, closed the door, and sat back down.

He searched through his space ring, where all the materials had come from Santos’s tower; there were many byproducts of the magic gems.

Although these gemstones could not assist in casting spells, infusing them with a level 0 spell like Radiance Rejuvenation was indeed very easy.

Fran took out three long strands of gold thread, twisted them into a braid, and then wove the gemstones, charged with the Cleansing Spell and Glory Renewal Spell, together.

He suddenly understood why that necklace was arranged in three layers.

After different spells were infused into the gemstones, if one didn’t know how to eliminate the repulsive force between spells, the two spells would cancel each other out and lose all effect.

With three layers, there would be no problem, as there was a layer of ordinary gemstone in the middle for isolation!

Fran stopped his work; he was too adept, and two gemstones had already been woven in.

He quickly removed the gemstone of the Purification Spell, drew out another braided cord, and wove the Purification Spell gemstone into the second layer.

Fran was very skilled, and by the time the maid led the appraiser in, he had already arranged the two-layer necklace neatly on the table.

He also took out a pair of magiccasting gloves. He had made them, copying Santos’s original ones, and besides increasing the strength of released spells, they could instantly cast three pre-stored spells and accelerate mana recovery.

Just now, that Lawson auctioned off a similar pair of gloves, starting at two rounds and then it turned into a Gold Crystal Card.

In fact, he had brought several pairs with him, but encountering something novel for the first time, Fran couldn’t resist the impulse to make a few more and see what effects they had.

However, alchemy products in this world were rarer than Fran had expected, so he had only brought out the worst one. Yet, he still wanted a lower denomination of currency, which was why he made that necklace.

He couldn’t possibly use a Gold Crystal Card to buy a loaf of bread!

Fran suspected that in a mainstream society where only gold coins were used for transactions, mages probably preferred bartering.

Occasionally, when they ran out of money to buy raw materials, it was normal to sell some minor items for gold coins, right?

”Respected mage sir, Randall Wells greets you.” The old mage in a white robe walked in slowly.

”Hello,” replied Fran with a nod, ”Please have a seat.”

The old mage sat down respectfully on the left side of Fran’s coffee table, with the maid smartly providing a chair.

”Mage sir, these two treasures of yours are indeed valuable and could even be auctioned directly,” said the old mage in his aged voice. ”Technically, your jewelry is worth much more than the sapphire necklace that just went up for auction, but I dare not promise it would sell for more.

The same tactic wouldn’t work a second time. Only a surprise can create a sensation.

As for the magiccasting gloves, they should be worth a bit more than the pair that sold earlier, especially since yours are much more beautiful.

The mithril thread used to weave the gloves is fine enough, and I’ve never seen mithril thread as thin as half a hair! Conductivity must be extremely strong. It is a pity, but they are more suitable for young people heading into battle; otherwise, I would have bought them for myself.”

”If that’s the case, I wonder if your guild would be willing to buy them at the same price,” said Fran indifferently. ”I believe the value of my gloves should cover the price difference for the necklace.”

”Of course,” replied the old appraiser without batting an eye. ”If you don’t mind that the Golden Age Commerce gains more, we would certainly prefer to buy them directly.

Your price is very favorable, and we can proceed with the transaction directly.”

Fran waved his hand, signaling his agreement.

This old appraiser must be one of the top figures of the Golden Age Commerce in Reyes City if not the division head.

After all, he had reached level 19.

But his body was beginning to age, and it was difficult for such a person to advance to level 20 on his own.

While a level 19 knight might receive divine grace and become legendary, it was very hard for a level 19 mage.

The mages in the Temple might advance quickly initially, but level 19 was almost their limit.

No deity would let a mage have control over their divine laws.

Even if they lacked the ability to control an entire law, catching a glimpse was enough for them to deduce many things. No deity would nurture their own enemies.

A mage either had to rely on their own power to sense the world at level 20 or remain as a high-level mage at level 19 in the embrace of the deities.

The old appraiser took out 1000 Gold Crystal Cards and then shakily counted out 1000 Blue Crystal Cards, placing them on the coffee table: ”Then I thank the honorable mage for his generous patronage of the Golden Era.

Please accept the payment.

We are in need of such high-level items, and if you have more, please consider Golden Age Commerce for the opportunity in light of the financial reward.”

Hill waved his hand and collected all the crystal cards into his space ring, ”Of course, next time there’s great stuff, I’ll definitely consider the Golden Era.”

He paid no attention to the old appraiser who seemed to want to say more. No matter how sweet the words, Hill, who was not from this world, could not possibly be moved.

Hill left the auction hall in high spirits.

It seemed that the matter concerning Santos was mainly orchestrated by people from Tevalon.

He must have said something he shouldn’t have, crossing the line set by the World Will, and got hit with the Curse of Misfortune, which led to people wiping him out in one fell swoop.

Other nations, including the Coin Church whose reach spanned the entire world, did not bear any ill will towards Santos’s students.

For Hill, this was quite enough.

He was somewhat puzzled by the Goddess of Gold Coins and preferred to avoid interacting with her people too much.

Although it was only the false Divine Power of this world, how could the Goddess of Gold Coins possibly only possess intermediate Divine Power?

The entire world was using the currency she invented!

Hill stood at the entrance of the auction hall and looked around.

When he had entered Reyes, it was still noon.

But coming out from the Golden Era, the dusk had already settled.

Indifferently, Hill walked onto the bustling streets and suddenly felt that there was no need to stay in the city to seek any more information.

The progress of the Undead Tribe was indeed fast, and perhaps in less than a month, he, the Fran Legend, could be hosting Undead visitors in the Magic Tower.

Hill turned directly into a nearby magic book store, as during the hundred years of Santos’s absence, quite a few new books should have come out.

Hill summoned a large floating chest that followed him and began his sweeping purchases.

He didn’t hesitate to throw any book he hadn’t read before into the chest, regardless of the content.

The bookstore owner watched Hill in amazement, but he quickly realized that this was a highly powerful mage of high level, and immediately followed behind him.

After about half an hour in the bookstore, Hill had bought all the books he hadn’t read.

If it weren’t for some new biographies of deities, it might have taken him only ten minutes to pick out the real magic books—Santos’s collection was indeed very comprehensive.

”Respected Mr. Mage, are you collecting magic books?” the bookstore owner asked respectfully. ”We also sell used books. There are many books unique to individual mages that cannot be copied.

But these books may not necessarily be valuable, yet they are quite expensive.

Would you be interested?”

”Let me have a look,” Hill said bluntly.

One third of the used books were ones Hill had not seen, and he bought them outright.

Though the books were pricey, they only cost Hill two Blue Crystal Cards, and he was even given change—a little less than 10,000 gold coins.

After leaving the store, Hill browsed through a material shop and, happy with his purchases that cost two Gold Crystal Cards, went straight back to Reyes.

The mages who had been following him all evening scrambled to the city gates, watching as Hill unfolded a pair of transparent wings wrapped in wind and thunder, and instantly flew thousands of meters away.

Nobody would have thought that the Fran Legend would just leave like this! Wasn’t he supposed to stay in Reyes to find the mastermind who caused the misfortunes of Mage Santos?

Count Reyes had thought up many strategies to recruit this legendary mage, even considering framing someone from the Bawudong family, but why would he just leave?

Many things done in Reyes and in the Magic Tower are completely different!

Count Reyes could deal with a minor noble behind closed doors, but he certainly couldn’t walk out of Reyes City with him flamboyantly!

To please a mage by sacrificing a follower of the Main God, was something that could only be done in utmost secrecy and never made public!

Even the King of Tevalon would not dare to do such a thing so openly.

Hill left all the miscellaneous matters behind, flying swiftly and freely.

He wasn’t actually out to avenge Santos.

If the opportunity arose, he would lend a hand willingly, but he would avoid getting into trouble over it.

When Hill left the Golden Era and did not see anyone from the Earl’s Mansion, he knew there was trouble.

He had no interest in becoming a guest of some earl.

Hill dove into his own Magic Tower and strengthened the Illusion Array a bit more.

He took out the Land Deed and expanded the Magic Array to the patch of land that Santos hadn’t utilized, and even built a large general store on it.

With so many crystal stones at hand, when else to use them if not now?

List looked curiously at Hill’s actions, ”Sir, it seems that you find this place worth developing?”

”We can continue to be merchants, List,” Hill replied. ”The Undead, probably won’t be long before they reach our doorstep.

It’s just a matter of whether the God of Travel wants to fight or is dragged into the water by others.”
