Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 594: Chapter 392: The Official Start of a Level 20 Mage’s Life

Although Hill truly wished to know whether all the people here had perished, he still couldn’t bring himself to verbalize a curse.

If luck hadn’t smiled upon him in this regard, he couldn’t possibly demand forcefully, no matter who the other party was. He would not erase the existence of a stranger just for a moment of convenience.

If someone really did come looking, he could also pretend to be a student of this Magister.

Over a hundred years was enough for a mage with decent talent to advance to Legendary rank, or using the terms of this place, a 20-level Mage who had mastered the Over-magic Specialty.

Hill decided to adjust his language and introduce himself as 20-level Mage Hill from now on.

”What spells does Mage Santos like to use?” Hill slowly exhaled, finally having removed all the obsidian bricks.

”Wind and Thunder Elements,” List said with a smile. ”And because of his noble birth, he also liked to wield a thin sword enhanced with sharpness spells.

However, sir, it would be best not to use that passive status spell anymore.”

Hill blinked and finally smiled with relief, at last some good news.

If it had been a Fire Element Magister, Hill would have had to find another path.

It was not that he could not disguise himself, but using Fire Element Magic frequently was also somewhat uncomfortable for him.

Hill summoned a whirlwind, sweeping the pile of rubble outside the Illusion Array and erecting a stone wall outside the small farm.

He divided the Illusion Array into inner and outer parts, with the outer mainly serving an isolating function, allowing the place to blend more into the environment.

Although it was very likely that few knew about this place, the nation that sold the land deed to Santos still existed.

The emergence of the Undead Tribe might only be known to the deities at the moment, but these nations would soon learn of their terror.

A high-level Mage, in ordinary times, might not draw attention to what he is doing, but in the event of a crisis, even the most foolish nation would seek him out. At the very least, they would want to confirm whether this battle strength still existed.

As for the interior of the stone wall, the most important thing was to ensure that everything within wouldn’t be easily exposed.

Hill gently tossed out a crystal ball, a product of Fran which could directly release an Isolation Array strong enough to block the sight of all gods.

Such a singular function Alchemy Item to reach Legendary Level, of course, had sufficiently powerful functionality.

The purpose of Fran’s initial creation was to prevent these deities from eavesdropping on his conversations easily.

If he had to prepare an Isolation Array each time, it would be too draining, and there also might not be enough time.

William, for the birth of this crystal ball, had made strenuous efforts.

Fran had used William for preliminary experiments. He told King of Saral outright: You have eavesdropped too many times.

William, to obtain a few finished products, really accompanied Fran in many experiments, contributing even the other Gods of Time and Space.

However, once the item reached William’s hands, it was essentially in the hands of the God of Time and Space.

That one probably had already prepared an Isolation Array more suitable for use with divine power.

Back in the Royal Palace, William constantly casually called out the names of deities because the Isolation Array was powerful enough.

As for Shaer, eavesdropping was part of her divine duties, and she even controlled the relevant laws of Gerns World.

William tried many times to call out Rose, who had taken over the Red Moon, but there was no response whatsoever.

From this, it was evident that the reason was not that the Isolation Array was ineffective, but that Shaer was simply too powerful.

At least the deities of this world, Hill didn’t think they had the ability to pierce through the Isolation Array to see what Hill was doing.

”Alright, which deity owns this country?” Hill was finally able to ask.

”God of Travel,” List replied. ”Next door is the land of the Goddess of Winter.”

Hill curiously asked, ”Only the God of Travel?”

”There’s also a God of Exploration, but that deity is far from this country,” List knew what Hill was asking about. Ferun, too, has a God of Travel and Exploration!

”The deities of this world are numerous, but there are basically none with the same name as powerful divine forces,” List explained. ”Not just the Ferun Pantheon, other pantheons don’t have them either.

Even the intermediate and lesser gods have divided all their divine duties. None are singled out to any one deity.

But, the Goddess of Winter, she’s essentially infringing upon the Daughter of Winter, right? However, her divinity only brings winter to the land, without the concept of freezing everything.”

”That, of course, is because the Frost Maiden is easy to bully!” Hill sighed lightly. ”Aside from venting her frustration on humans, what else can she do?

Even her followers’ greatest ability is to serve as postmen for Ferun’s northern lands.”

Hill knew why List had mentioned the Frost Maiden; the Ring of Winter he possessed was forged together by this deity and her lover.

At that time, the goddess was very powerful and not as desolate as she is now.

However, Hill knew that what he possessed was not the original.

That was a Star Spirit crafting on its own based on the pattern of the Ring of Winter, those beings that could create or destroy a world with a mere gesture or movement, took great pleasure in imitating these famous divine artifacts.

However, no matter what they made, it would always turn out to be an artifact of the Kind Alignment.

The Star Spirits would never take something that didn’t belong to them from any world, so the one that the Frost Maiden helped craft would definitely still be in their own world.

”But since it’s the nation of the God of Travel,” Hill started laughing, ”it makes sense for mages here to favor Wind and Thunder System magic, right? This one’s Neutral alignment? How powerful are they?”

”Neutral, and their power is above average among the deities in this area. They don’t like causing trouble, but their followers love to travel far and wide, and most of the wandering merchants are devotees of the God of Travel.

There are also many trading caravans in this country. The status of merchants here is quite high compared to other nations.”

Hill raised his eyebrows, recalling the unfortunate Santos.

This is still the country where merchants hold a higher status!

”Are we at the border here?”

”One hundred kilometers from here lies Winterland. The Goddess of Winter doesn’t like to interact with outsiders, and trading caravans are only allowed into Winterland in April each year.

But she has no interest in expanding her country either. That line, just like the Arctic Circle, marks her ultimate bound.

So, although hardly anyone is willing to come here.”

Staring blankly, Hill asked, ”What month is it now? How long does winter last here?”

This is practically the Arctic Circle! Are the Siberian cold winds waiting for him?

”June, sir. We have three more months, and starting from October, the city will be sealed by heavy snowfall,” List said with a smile, ”Didn’t sir notice that the illusion array had a temperature control feature?”

”Aren’t Magic Towers supposed to control the weather?” Hill asked blankly. Wherever he lived, the weather-controlling array would be installed! Not to mention the temperature.

”Of course not,” List replied, ”for many mages of this world, that’s an unnecessary expense, which is why land here is cheap.”

Hill signaled to the magical plants patrolling the territory, telling them that it’s very cold here in the winter, and if they wanted to return to the pendant, they just had to let him know.

But he was flatly rejected by the magical plants, with the Murderous Vine even bounding away quickly like a silly husky.

”These are magical plants of the Demigod Level, sir,” List said helplessly, ”Even if they go to the Goddess of Winter’s temple, they won’t freeze.”

”Well, I still had to tell them first,” Hill waved his hand dismissively, ”There’s a big difference between them not caring and not knowing, okay?”

List laughed, the flora and fauna liked Hill, and not merely because he was a Child of Nature.

Hill looked at the now-exposed basement and turned the walls around it into obsidian. Then he lowered the room on the first subterranean level to 50 meters underground and sealed it off completely.

Hill touched the pendant, feeling it wasn’t quite safe enough and wanted to add another layer of defense—this was List! He would regret it to death if anything happened.

”Does this world have mithril?” Hill still asked.

”You could mix a bit of mithril into steel,” List thought for a moment before answering, ”Dwarven shields, for example, seem to have mithril in them, and have especially strong defensive power. Although the price is steep, you can still find them for sale outside.”

Hill, pleased with himself, layered the outside of the basement with a third of mithril-infused mithril—an item from Santos’ private stash, certainly a common commodity.

Then he added another thick layer of mithril-blended steel to the outside.

Sealing off the entire basement except for the Array lines, Hill happily constructed a standard twelve-story Magic Tower.

Although he couldn’t expand the space, as a Legendary Mage, he could still build it taller, of course, and the entire tower was made of obsidian.

Hill released most of the puppets and materials needed for the Magic Tower’s construction from the pendant, installed the Floating Stairway, and could leave the rest up to List.

Finding out that Hill was planning to be lazy, List helplessly directed the puppets to first set up the living quarters on the top floor.

In this world, Hill wouldn’t let anyone enter the top floor, only there he could go a bit overboard with the setup.

List didn’t hesitate to create an environment that was most comfortable and suited for Hill.

Hill flew up to the top floor happily, settled into the soft long sofa in the study, cuddling the eager Alice who had just run out, and started reading the Magic Book.

Although the history of this world was important, he chose the Magic Book first.

Even as a Magician, those interesting Level 0 spells were quite easy for Hill to cast.

He and Alice played with them joyfully together.

The mages of this world, though their lives were hard, had a truly wide variety of spells!

Especially the many non-element spells, Hill was greatly tempted—he could totally learn them! He didn’t mind if it was slow, as Magicians at the Legendary Rank had a lot more spells they could learn.

So what if he had to chant, Hill never minded practicing a bit.
