Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 566: Chapter 364: The Demon Lord Who Staged the Battle of the Brave

Miliel and two elves had to ask for a long time before confirming that the God of Magic’s Pope had wiped out the entire Radiant Knights Order.

The letter stained with splotches of blood, delivered by the peregrine falcon, was almost a desperate missive written in blood.

The two knights were upfront about allowing them to read the content of the letter, but neither Miliel nor the elves could say much besides offering consolation.

The knights were candid enough to clearly spell out their foolishness in their writing.

The Gerns World Will had instructed the Radiant Knights Order to meet with the otherworldly leader, the demigod level knight-king. They all knew about it.

But, at that time, Miliel and the others still had reservations, so they didn’t plan to appear personally and simply let the Radiant Knights Order handle it.

Unexpectedly, the current leader of the Radiant Knights Order didn’t achieve anything with the visitor from the otherworld but instead, his people uncovered the Magic Kingdom’s spies first.

Even more, it turned out to be a human transformed into a horse.

The elves were scared at the time and immediately wrote back to the Green Leaf Forest, instructing their companions to carefully search the animals in the forest.

Although elves are more sensitive and can easily spot if the souls of animals are amiss, it’s impossible for them to keep an eye on every creature in the forest.

And they also have frolicking young to worry about! What if they were lured by some devil-transformed beast?

The elves busied themselves contacting their kin, and Miliel thought they were trying to avoid the duty of comforting the knights.

Because elves live long lives, they tend to speak very directly, having grown tired of contemplating the art of conversation.

Even though their speech is melodious as singing, it doesn’t conceal the hurtfulness of their blunt truth.

Especially with the content of this letter.

His Majesty King William from the otherworld had already warned the knights of the Radiant Knights Order not to tell any ordinary person, no matter how close their relationship was.

Would it be difficult for devils to get ordinary people to tell the truth?

Furthermore, everyone knew devils could use transformation spells to turn people into horses! Didn’t these knights ever think that they could become pets like cats and dogs?

Moreover, Miliel could tell from the letter of that leader that some knights were determined to tell their families because they didn’t want to betray their beliefs.

Their families were their eternal support, the existence they trusted the most.

If they didn’t tell, wouldn’t that imply they also doubted their families?

Sure, they could be stubborn, and reality could respond to that stubbornness with a painful blow.

The end result was that before they even began to interrogate the suspect elders, the enemy launched a direct assault.

The Radiant Knights Order was instantly plunged into the most chaotic situation; no one knew how many enemies there were, and when they encountered people, their first instinct was to hold back, but the enemy’s first reaction was to kill them.

Although righteousness eventually prevailed, as most of the order’s high-level members were still their own, the casualties were devastating among the low-rank knights and ordinary people, and the relatives they’d been thinking of no longer had the chance to express whether they cared about the knights’ trust.

No matter how heartbreak and grief stricken the two respected demigod-level knights were, Miliel only felt that after reading the letter, all that remained inside him were curses he couldn’t utter.

He knew that the Sun God of his own world also had a lot of rules, but his subordinates definitely weren’t raised to be this foolish!

Thinking about those Holy Knights of the Sun God Temple, who were always seen as stubborn as stones, Miliel felt somewhat relieved. Thankfully, they weren’t such a mess.

No matter how callous they seemed when dealing with matters related to demons and devils, Miliel thought he could now understand the meticulousness of those Holy Warriors.

Although he thought no one with a bit of intelligence would be so foolish, he would still have to share this story with his alliance’s army after he returned.

His knightly comrades had been silent all this time, and Miliel could only watch as they were engulfed in endless agony.

For these knights, who were naïve to the point of stupidity, there was no way to scold them. After all, they truly suffered heavy losses in their fight against evil, but Miliel could not truly sympathize with them, either.

He could only treat it as the price of maturity, but for those involved, the price was excessively cruel.

The day his knightly friend finally transformed his sorrow into hatred, Miliel knew there was no going back.

If it were said that he was the one who organized this squad, and the others followed him into battle, then at this moment, they must fight so their companion wouldn’t fall into extremism out of guilt.

Even if that otherworldly king could defeat Mephistopheles and destroy the Pseudo Magic Net, Miliel could no longer simply walk away.

His knightly friend would probably prefer to die on the battlefield fighting the Demon Lord.

Although both of them believed that the elves and the bard didn’t need to join this war, as it was their war of vengeance, and this world no longer needed them to fight to the death,

neither Miliel nor the elven warrior could abandon their comrades in arms.

Throughout their journey, they had faced demons and devils, and the two knights had always stood loyally at the forefront, protecting them from all harm.

The healing divine arts of the elf priest were all used on the two of them.

When the two knights knelt to pray, swearing to kill the God of Magic and his Pope, they were perhaps too sincere, somehow summoning the Gerns World Will itself.

Miliel’s war song nearly drifted off as he thought about this.

He could have never dreamed that his arrival would be detected by the World Will of Gerns for such a ludicrous reason!

Fortunately, this was a World Will that dared to have other worlds deploy hundreds of millions of troops, and even allowed their faith to be preached.

It merely gave him a few knocks, confirming that his faction was good, before saying no more.

Then, to confront Mephistopheles and his Pope, they actually had to request help from someone who wasn’t even a deity!

If that person disagreed, the Gerns World Will wouldn’t permit them to provoke His Majesty King William.

After finally obtaining William’s consent, they were moved to say that the soon-to-be deified king was truly a good person!

Unlike Miliel, who was sneaking around in secret.

Miliel strummed his Ruth with vigor, thankful that word of this world’s affairs wouldn’t spread back to his own!

Mephistopheles knew nothing, and after all, this Demon Lord had no Evil God friends to confide in; knowing was pointless.

However, Miliel was aware that they had scored a significant advantage this time.

Mephistopheles’ Pseudo Magic Net was probably completely degenerated by now.

He was relying on the Devil’s own powers, as that network couldn’t provide him with any support anymore.

Miliel glanced at the hills beyond the Ice Wall. His Majesty’s small palace remained still, seemingly indifferent to the honor of battling the Demon Lord being taken from them.

Despite having used a Divine Artifact and consumed a great deal of Divine Power, he had casually yielded the highest honor, and Miliel couldn’t help but admire this king’s royal bearings.

The king whom he admired was at that moment yawning, resting his chin in hand, ”How much longer will they fight? Mephistopheles is really boring, fighting so mechanically with them.

I think he’s getting bored too.

Should he either leave or self-destruct! Do Devils not get as fixated on the joy of battle as Demons?”

He truly didn’t care about any honor.

To William, the biggest risk in fighting Mephistopheles wasn’t the possibility of defeat but that if he won, the Devil might really self-destruct.

His life was far too precious, and he had no interest in gambling it against some Devil’s avatar.

William had no interest in a losing exchange like that.

As for the honor of battling a Demon Lord that Miliel thought of, William probably just thought he was crazy.

Hadn’t he saved this world already? Was he still short of such trifles?

If nobody helped and he had to fight desperately himself, William wouldn’t shrink from it. But since others volunteered, he had no notion of troubling himself unnecessarily.

”I don’t know much about Devils,” Hill replied softly, ”Perhaps he thinks it’s fun? He seems really keen on killing that deity’s avatar.”

”Ugh,” William said listlessly, ”The Undead are almost climbing the Ice Wall. Do they really enjoy spectating so much? What’s so intriguing about this clichéd battle of the hero party against the Great Demon King?

Knight novels are worn out with it.

Better hurry up and look around for any Devils or Evil Mages that have slipped out.”

Hill didn’t make a sound. Of course, the Undead were indifferent to the spectacle; to them, this was just a cutscene CG, and the battle would end when the fight was over.

William was not ignorant of what was happening; he was just bored.

And he was quite pleased with the situation; Hill could sense it.

It certainly felt even more like a cutscene from a video game.

It was just lasting a bit too long. What was Mephistopheles dragging out for?

”Does Mephistopheles think that Shaer is here too? He’s worried that even if he wins against Miliel, he’ll be felled by a flying blade,” William suddenly muttered to himself, ”If Miliel contacted Mystra through the Weave, it’s indeed possible that Shaer knows what’s happening.

Compared to Mystra, Shaer hates those who reach for her Shadow Weave even more and definitely wouldn’t care about any Demon Lord.

Hill, you’ve got good eyes, keep a lookout there! Is there a curl of darkness against the sky?”

Spencer turned his head and quickly switched the screen to show a broadcast by a daring Undead hovering above the Ice Wall, shooting the battlefield on the other side.

Of course, the Undead were behaving and watching because those who were curious and flew near the battlefield had been laid to rest.

The Undead who sought death ended up with a BUFF: Enter the battlefield of the deity and Monarch of Demons, sustain severe damage, unable to resurrect for 6 hours.

The Undead had already seen the unlucky ones who met their demise shared on forums, and currently, no one dared go feel the joy of being automatically logged off.
