Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 571: Chapter 369: The Guests of Green Leaf Forest Are Truly Different

William’s judgment was only partially correct. The Elven God King believed these seeds could be used as waste.

After all, they were of no use to him anyway.

He didn’t consider whether the Ancient War Tree was the most important strategic relic to the elves. The profligate who had divine artifacts all over his body showed no fear while squandering family assets.

But the reason he did this was also considering that Hill’s Earth Bear bloodline was directly inherited from the Goddess of the Earth.

When that goddess revived, most elves could sense that she was a descendant of the World Tree.

Whether Hill took the tree seeds with him or not, or whether his calculations succeeded or not, the Elven God King could justify it. These ancient trees were originally cultivated over millions of years from gifts the World Tree had given to Coron.

The Elven God King’s thoughts were very simple. He didn’t want to give Hill too many divine artifacts and wanted to create some minor troubles for him. Although the seeds of ancient trees could be preserved for a long time, as long as Hill had them planted in his own small space, as long as there were elves nearby, they would be able to sense them.

And no matter which universe, where would there be no elves?

Unfortunately for him, Hill simply planted them in his own territory and handed these ancient trees over to the World Tree for management.

Hill hadn’t thought that his home would be dangerous; it was just that this approach suited him better.

”In my valley, could anyone dare cause trouble?” Hill laughed, ”Agleya is there!”

As for the three deities of Sun, Moon, and Earth, Hill didn’t think they had the responsibility to protect his valley.

Agleya was different; the valley was her forever home.

”The Forest of the Elves can’t sustain these two types of trees anymore, he had no way either,” Hill explained calmly, ”Not just any elf can plant an Ancient War Tree; it requires a very high level of temperament.

Besides, he might think that I would carry the seeds with me instead of handing them over to the World Tree.

He always viewed humans as too greedy. Even though I display myself as close to nature, the Elven God King didn’t believe I would give up such gains.”

Hill’s fingers caressed his pendant.

The oak tree pattern wrapped around the outside of the pendant was still clearly visible.

The Oak Spirit could see everything happening outside through these oak tree patterns, so Hill didn’t need to tell List about the outside world.

The Oak Spirit worked well with List within the pendant.

List believed that once Hill found a half-plane, he would leave the pendant to control the real half-plane, so he always treated the Oak Spirit as the future control center of the pendant, constantly teaching him how to manage such a large space.

When Hill first got the seeds, the oak tree suggested he plant the two ancient trees in the pendant.

Once they grew, they would reach the demigod rank, with high strength and obedience to someone they had been with for a long time. The oak tree knew this and felt a bit envious.

Even though there might be some aftereffects, the oak tree felt there’d be no problem as long as they were kept within the pendant.

But Hill didn’t see much point in this; if they couldn’t be trusted, they shouldn’t be kept nearby.

He didn’t want to do something so cruel either.

Though the pendant’s space was large, it wasn’t real land.

The ancient trees needed to take root in the earth to thrive, with roots extending hundreds of meters. Even considering them half-weapons, Hill couldn’t bring himself to make them live confined in soil only several dozen meters deep.

But in the valley, it was different. Even if there were certain methods, the Elven God King wouldn’t dare to mess with the World Tree.

These ancient trees could live freely and comfortably.

”In fact, he’s not completely wrong.” William laughed, ”Most humans couldn’t do what you do. It’s very normal not to like giving up everything within reach.

Elves always like to stand on high ground and point fingers, not understanding how difficult it is for short-lived races to attain some things.”

Hill smiled wryly.

He didn’t think there was anything wrong with himself.

If truly necessary, he wouldn’t give up the feelings of these ancient trees either.

But to him, these ancient trees weren’t essential.

”Elves will never understand what kind of price humans have to pay to obtain certain things. Some of these things may be easily attainable for elves who live long lives.” William looked outside the hall and said quietly.

Though he had embarked on the path of eternity, William still empathized with ordinary humans. He strongly disliked the elves’ lofty attitude: Because they lived long and possessed too much, they looked down on humans who clung greedily to everything they could grasp.

But in reality, elves also fought fiercely to live better lives. It’s just that what they fought for seemed higher level, unlike humans who would do anything for one gold coin.

Everyone has selfish desires, and fighting for more valuable things doesn’t mean they don’t fight at all.

William’s tone of disgust and disdain was clear to Hill.

Hill lowered his head and said nothing. Sometimes, William and the others treated Hill like an ordinary human. But he, too, was of an Eternal Race.

Elves might not even live longer than him.

From the day Hill became a magician, he knew that as long as he protected his life, he could live a very long, long time.

”Not all elves are like those from Teraxil. Leadership is very important for elves; they are actually very loyal to their Lord of the Forest,” Hill reminded William, hoping he wouldn’t lump elves from every world in with the foolish Elven God King of Teraxil.

”I know,” William sighed, ”I will try to rid myself of those bad impressions.

Elves can be chaotic, but their faction doesn’t always lean in a certain direction.

There are many from the Kind Alignment, like the Gerns branch seems to be.

I will remind myself not to have any prejudices.”

Spencer’s voice came from outside the door: ”Please, enter. His Majesty King William is waiting for you all.”

Hill quietly stood up and positioned himself beside William.

Knights in formal armor and elves in ceremonial robes walked in together.

Hill then realized that the elf priest was female.

He sighed inwardly. If elves dress similarly and have a somewhat heroic look, it’s really hard to distinguish male from female.

Both elves had emerald green hair and eyes, quite different from the line of the Elven God King.

After stepping in front of William, the two knights took a slight step back, allowing the elves to introduce themselves first.

”Green Leaf Elf Loyc Hartfield.”

”Green Leaf Elf Chiara Bergman.”

”Allow us, on behalf of all our kin from the Greenleaf Forest, to extend our sincerest greetings to His Majesty King William from Teraxil. Thank you for bringing light to Gerns.”

The two elves bowed slightly, pressing a hand to their chest, and spoke the greeting in unison.

William was somewhat moved and quickly told them to skip the formalities.

It was the first time he had seen such proper elf etiquette.

In Teraxil, none of the many elf delegations he met had ever greeted him properly! He didn’t even know what real elven etiquette looked like!

Finally, he saw how normal elves interacted!

William’s enthusiastic reaction startled the elves, but they soon showed very happy smiles.

Hill sneaked a glance, thinking that they probably believed William had a good relationship with Teraxil’s elves to be so hospitable.

Hopefully, they wouldn’t question their lives when they discovered the truth.

”Former Radiant Knights Order Commander Marek Glass and Deputy Commander Lucky Felbark greet His Majesty King William.” The two knights exchanged glances, knelt on one knee in front of William, and said, ”Thank you, Your Majesty, for the kindness shown to the Radiant Knights Order. But the children have failed your goodwill.”

William maintained his calm expression, stopping them from kneeling. He gently lifted a hand, and with overwhelming strength, made the knights stand upright.

”I can only remind them; as for the result, it’s up to them.” William said calmly, ”If you need to send relatives and children to the main camp, I will still offer them shelter.

However, everyone must pass the faction test. Even in Teraxil, my kingdom has this requirement.

I can’t change my stance just because it’s a different world.”

Glass responded quickly: ”Of course. Follow the local rules. When I lived in the Greenleaf Forest, I also followed some elven rules.

The knights have been taught foolishly. Lucky and I will re-educate them.”

William smiled nonchalantly: ”Of course, that’s your freedom. If they don’t want to be restricted, they can live in the areas of the Magic Kingdom we’ve already conquered.

There, as long as they don’t violate the laws I set, the faction requirements are not high.

But if any law is broken, no matter what faction, there is no immunity.”

The knights readily agreed. They would find the surviving members and let them choose their future path.

And the two elves planned to report everything to the Green Leaf King upon returning to the Greenleaf Forest.

Knowing that William intended to return to the location of the Star Gate, they wanted to travel with him for a while.

William nodded in agreement.

The two elves presented their gifts. When they left the Forest of the Elves to participate in this war, the Green Leaf King had considered that they might meet this otherworldly king.

The two elves were both at the demigod level, holding significant positions in the Greenleaf Forest, capable of representing all the elves in presenting gifts to this distant king: various specialties of the Greenleaf Forest, most notably some silk with a brilliance that clearly only demigod-level silkworms could produce.

Even Hill couldn’t help but cast an envious glance.

And the two knights of the Radiant Knights Order also presented their gifts, though they weren’t as valuable as the elves’. These knights had brought their most prized possessions, precious gemstones, and metal ores unique to Gerns, materials they had painstakingly gathered to forge their equipment.
