Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 601: Chapter 399: Reunion with the Undead Tribe, The Great Bear of the Fran Family

Count Reyes had people send gifts several times over the next two months, which Hill had no intention of accepting.

Knowing that what Hill wanted most was the inside story of Santos’ accident, the Earl remained silent, simply planning to use some precious gifts to win Hill’s favor.

Clearly, someone from the Bawudong family must have been involved. Even more likely, the person behind this was still alive in this world.

Hill easily thought of the illegitimate son who took Santos’ place in the temple.

If there was anyone else in the Bawudong family who harbored hostility towards Santos, it could only be him.

As long as Santos was alive, he would always feel like there was a thorn in his back.

Having concluded that Santos’ illegitimate brother was one of the culprits behind the incident, Hill was not surprised.

He had already thought of this person.

Being of noble birth himself, he understood the psychology of the nobility all too well.

Facing someone they had wronged, indeed some would choose to repent and make amends, but many more would choose to perpetuate the mistake, especially if the wrong could never be made right, and the best solution would be to make the wronged person disappear.

Otherwise, they would always feel the threat of retribution, and Santos, now a 17th-level mage, definitely had the power to take revenge.

What’s more, Santos had also acquired a very powerful magic book, seeming to be on the cusp of becoming legendary.

It was no wonder the people of the Bawudong family, who were also priests of the Church of the Traveling God, chose to keep silent.

What surprised Hill was that the Earl hadn’t even found a minor noble from the Bawudong family to take the fall. Is the protection for nobles in Tevalon really that strong?

Considering that even the mage involved hadn’t been handed over, Hill guessed that this mage had already become legendary using the magic book.

He may have even become the Chief Mage of some Great Nobility.

Hill was not particularly interested in a magic book that would allow a mage to skip directly past the 20th level mysterious checkpoint. Every world has such shortcuts, and once you take them, it’s the end of the road.

In essence, it’s about changing from being a controller of the laws to a puppet controlled by them.

What startled Hill was that the Earl, who had been insisting on sending expensive gifts every few days, suddenly went silent.

At first, Hill thought it was because the heavy snow had started falling.

True to the proximity of Winterland, once the snow started, it didn’t stop for three days and nights.

The Pine and Cypress Forest, where the Magic Tower stood, quickly turned into a true world of ice and snow, white as far as the eye could see.

But after half a month with no one showing up, Hill began to wonder.

In this world, the only great enemy is currently the Undead Tribe.

The conflicts between deities are temporarily put on hold, and even if there is intrigue, at least on the surface there must be a united front.

But if Reyes really had been attacked by the Undead Tribe, they would come to seek Hill’s help!

Having a Legendary Mage nearby and not asking for help in times of danger was not something Hill believed the Count Reyes he had encountered would do if he was a Saint.

Even if they knew Hill was no match, a true noble would still drag him into it.

Although he didn’t know what had happened, Hill, who had enjoyed half a month of peace, still placed an ordinary store core in his grocery store. It seemed that in this world, he could only spend money on goods.

The only items Hill stocked in his store were hundreds of Blue Crystal Cards and Gold Crystal Cards.

Although he didn’t know if the Undead Tribe wanted anything in this world, he still felt that Crystal Stones were more appealing.

The Undead Tribe’s Gold Coins were completely unusable.

No matter how many countries they capture, no one dares to use Gold Coins not minted by the Goddess of Gold Coins while the World Rules are still controlled by others.

Hill had just finished setting up the store when he saw the first group of the Undead Tribe a week later.

They had come straight for the location of Hill’s Magic Tower, with their leader holding a map of an unusual style.

Hill’s eyes widened in surprise: that must be the Alchemy Map that only the Temple of the God of Travel could possess.

The exact location of Santos’ Mage Tower was only roughly known by Reyes City. Only the Temple knew where it exactly was, after all, the land deed had been sold by the Temple.

Though this Mage Tower was near Reyes City, it was not under the jurisdiction of Count Reyes.

The place Hill was located could be considered the very north of Tevalon, and a little further on was the border of Winterland.

The northern border of Tevalon didn’t even have walls; both sides had exercised the utmost restraint, with neither venturing into the other’s territory.

Hill’s mind was in turmoil for a moment. He truly didn’t understand how the Undead Tribe managed to quietly overturn the Temple of the God of Travel.

But what he was certain of was that Reyes City was definitely doomed.

This Alchemy Map, which detailed all the villages and private properties near Reyes City, had always been in the Sub Temple of the God of Travel in Reyes City, right near the city gates.

Whether the Undead Tribe had occupied the entire Tevalon nation or just the northern part of it, Hill had returned to a familiar environment.

The Illusion Array had transmitted their outside discussion inside.

”Isn’t this called Bawudong Great Mage Tower? How does it look like it has anything to do with Hill?” someone asked in a muffled voice.

These members of the Undead Tribe were all draped in thick cloaks, with fur collars standing tall and furry hats on their heads, which made their voices very dull.

They had quite the Siberian flair.

”Haven’t you seen the forum?” someone replied, ”The original owner, named Santos, is already dead. The current Tower Master is called Oberon Fran.”

”Fran?” The first person who asked the question suddenly realized and said, ”Isn’t that Hill’s grandfather? No wonder you all suspected it was Hill.”

”Actually, it’s also because he’s called Oberon.” someone chuckled mischievously, ”The big bear of the Fran Family, isn’t that Hill? With such an obvious name, as soon as you hear it, you’d guess it’s him!”

Hill, who originally wanted to open the Array to let them into the shop, darkened in the face and stopped what he was doing.

”Are you stupid?” a familiar female voice came through, ”Do you think the people in the Magic Tower can’t hear what we’re saying?

We can’t discuss such matters, even if Hill did it. Do you think he would still open the door for us now?”

The lady known as ’Old Age Striking King’—why are you everywhere? Hill let out a long sigh and still waved his hand to dissolve the Array at the store.

But Hill only opened a stone-paved path leading straight to the shop’s main door, with mist on either side of the path.

If these guys insisted on venturing off the path, then it was none of Hill’s concern.

When he came up with this name, he took into account that the Undead Tribe would recognize it directly, so he was prepared for some teasing, but he didn’t expect someone to actually come up to his face and mention it.

Hill sighed softly as he gently floated down from the top of the tower to the back door of the shop.

By the time he walked in, those from the Undead Tribe had already removed their cloaks and were comfortably seated on the long sofa that Hill had placed along the windows.

Several puppet workers stood by, constantly quoting prices for the items they brought out.

”Long time no see, how have you all been?” Hill said gently, ”I’ve heard that the Undead Tribe’s recent battle achievements have been quite impressive.”

”Mr. Hill!” Several people waved at him happily, ”It’s been a long time! We’re glad you’re safe and sound.”

”Has Tevalon been completely occupied by you?” Hill asked curiously, ”How did you manage to target the God of Travel so quickly? I remember he is from the Neutral Faction.”

”No, just half of it.” a Mage named Junqi answered Hill, ”We were originally in the Secretive Country in the west, called Aivikna.

That guy and Lady Venom are allies and have given us quite a bit of trouble. Later, he fled back to his own country.

After we fought off Venom, a part of our group was stopped by that giant insect. Although the battle there was exhilarating, many didn’t want to fight against oversized insects.

We could still tolerate giant ants and bees, but the maggots coming out was too much for many of the girls to handle.”

”Ugh~” the ’Old Age Striking King’ couldn’t help but retched a few times, her face pale as she interrupted Junqi, ”Let’s change the subject. I don’t want to remember.”

”Especially for someone like Elder who chose a loli body type, it was quite a shock.” Junqi shrugged, ”We made a path to the Secretive Country.

The God of Travel seemed to be tricked and deceived. We don’t know why he suddenly appeared in front of us, killing thousands of us in one shot.

Anyway, Tevalon turned red on our map as attackable territory.

The guy from the Secretive Country is hiding somewhere, even when we destroyed his Temple he didn’t come out, so we just headed straight to Tevalon.

Mr. Hill must know of our problem, we can get lost on the main road, not to mention after such heavy snow.

We don’t even know how we got from the west to the far north to Reyes, but since we were there, we just attacked.

Reyes and its slightly larger cities were taken by us 10 days ago.

We’ve been tallying the northern territories these past few days.

A Mage named Hogan suddenly said there was a Legendary Mage here, and if we didn’t control it, it would definitely cause trouble for us.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ had someone find a map and planned to send people to deal with the potential threat.

Originally, we had that guy lead the way, but he was too scared. In the end, out of no other choice, he told the truth.

He also said that you’re very good at Alchemy, very wealthy, but have some hatred with Tevalon.

Once we heard that, we felt something was amiss. After asking for the name, we began to suspect it was Mr. Hill!”

”William sent us on a mission, hoping to confirm Mr. Hill’s safety. He seemed sure that Mr. Hill came with us.” The ’Old Age Striking King’ continued speaking, ”Actually, we’re also very concerned! Many died in that chaos.”

Hill smiled and nodded: ”I’m fine. I was lucky to find a safe place.”
