Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 577: Chapter 375: Other Divine Arts Brought by the Virtue of the Knight

William pulled up Spencer and gave his cousin a warm embrace, ”It’s good to have you back! It’s good to have you back!”

Spencer smiled faintly, a pride fluttering in his eyes that Hill felt he hadn’t seen in quite some time.

Hill suddenly remembered the first time he met Spencer, when he had returned from his travels with intelligence in tow.

Back then, Spencer had been very proud.

Standing alongside Adrian to welcome Hill, he was spirited and in no way inferior to anyone.

However, as William came into contact with ever higher echelons of the world, Spencer, who could only slowly transition from a guardian to a servant, became increasingly low-profile.

He was still proud, of course, though powerless in terms of martial might, he was second to none in handling administrative affairs. But such a Spencer was no longer willing to display that pride. He became more silent and conducted himself with increasing steadiness.

Perhaps this is what the heart of a knight is all about!

The swords they hold in their hands are where their hearts truly lie.

Hill stepped forward, smiling as he congratulated the guardian knight who had finally achieved his wish, ”Congratulations on your promotion to Legendary, Spencer Knight.”

Spencer had already stabilized his emotions, ”Thanks, Hill. Although it’s a bit late, I’ve finally made it.”

Hill didn’t say more and quietly moved aside.

The members of William’s Guardian Legion were preparing to offer their sincere congratulations and blessings.

For them, Spencer’s success seemed to lay out a radiant path before them as well.

These men, who were originally just knights and grand knights in the Guardian Legion, had, after so many years of perseverance, now half of them had become Sky Knights.

In theory, they could now govern a territory and become lords along the long border lines of Saral.

However, few were willing to leave the Guardian Legion for the role of a city lord.

Nowadays, noble power was increasingly restricted; without the threat of war, these knights preferred to stay in the Guardian Legion to strive for further advancements.

After becoming knights, they officially became part of the Saral nobility hierarchy, and it wasn’t as if they wouldn’t receive their noble titles if they didn’t serve as city lords.

Legendary status was the goal these members of the Guardian Legion were pursuing, but they were also uncertain, unsure if their persistence was right.

Perhaps they should, like in the past, leave the army and establish their own noble families to ensure the continuity of their lineage.

Hill was an exception; Spencer’s long sufferance was more typical of the pursuit of Legendary status.

But seeing Spencer finally succeed that day, all hesitations and anxieties vanished among the members of the Guardian Legion.

This was indeed the path they wanted to follow!

Hill turned to leave, and according to the customs of Teraxil, he too had to offer a gift for Spencer’s promotion to Legendary.

Of course, not now. What Spencer needed now was to accept the heartfelt blessings of those close to him.

Hill was just a friend, so after offering his congratulations, he did not disturb Spencer and William’s conversation.

Although Hill didn’t know why Spencer’s promotion had taken so long, almost equating to the time it took for a Legendary Mage’s promotion,

it was Spencer’s secret, relating to his Legendary skills, and Hill did not plan to pry.

List found quite a few High-Rank Legendary weapons in the storage. As an Alchemist with a rich ore resource, Hill had crafted several Alchemy Equipment pieces for practice.

To create a Demi-God Artifact, not only did the materials need to be excellent, but the craftsmanship also had to be skilled enough.

In the end, between a shield and a long sword, Hill still chose the long sword.

The armor and shield Spencer wore were Legendary Equipment, prepared by William for fear of his cousin encountering misfortune, but the long sword was somewhat inferior.

Hill chose a sword that could be fitted inside the great shield, placing it satisfied inside a gift box.

This type of sword was actually a bit shorter and thinner than the typical knight’s long sword. The scabbard had a side opening and could fit tightly onto a two-handed great shield, serving as an auxiliary sword for shield knights.

If necessary, one could just pull it out and go straight into combat.

For a guardian knight, the shield was more crucial, so acquiring a sufficiently good blade for the shield was challenging. Generally, the more premium materials would be directly used to make knightly long swords due to the greater need for attack power.

Moreover, for Alchemists, there wasn’t a high demand for such a sword, as knightly long swords tended to sell faster.

Especially in the past in Teraxil, not many knights were willing to sacrifice their offensive capabilities for the sake of protecting others.

But Hill created this equipment merely for practice; he had crafted numerous weapons of all styles until he was so familiar with them that he could forge them perfectly even without looking.

Even now, Hill had only completely mastered swords; he could produce Legendary Level items of other types, but they were hard to elevate to a High Level.

He certainly couldn’t give a congratulatory gift made from Fran’s products.

Hill closed the gift box and delivered it to the stone Royal Palace before nightfall, handing it over to the grinning Captain of the Guard.

Only he, now completely unfazed, while others were training as if injected with chicken blood.

The current Captain of the Guard was just like Hill in the past. Although he had reached the Magister stage, he spent every day desperately suppressing his own advancement.

But for their kind of orderly inherited Magician families, they are still better off than wild Magicians, and being often suppressed and purified by Divine Power near William, it was greatly beneficial for the captain.

As for William, knowing their lineage at least, the Gods of Time and Space weren’t worried about them actually carrying Devil or Demon Bloodline.

The more he knew about his own nature, the higher the God of Time and Space’s vigilance against the Demon Bloodline became.

His spiritual power and willpower were already very strong, but he still lost self-control for a while, which, for the God of Time and Space, was a terrifying thing.

Thus, although the Gods of Time and Space did not antagonize Magicians and were willing to accept Magicians residing within Saral’s domain, they wouldn’t employ Magicians for some high-security tasks unless the lineage was really clear and evident.

However, for the Magicians of Teraxil, the Gods of Time and Space have always been the most tolerant Deities, always leaving a door open for Magicians.

Even if it was a Devil or Demon Bloodline, Saral allowed them to enter the country before they actually committed sins.

They just couldn’t settle in the cities and were observed by the Undead Tribe.

That was enough to make those Magicians, still struggling with their own bloodline, shed tears of gratitude.

There are always people who, in the face of powerful forces, still choose to be human.

Hill turned around and went home, for he had only polished half of his Mithril Sphere and planned to finish it as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, in the Royal Palace, Spencer, having received an unexpected gift, took the box to William’s chamber.

”A congratulatory gift? From Hill?” William, who had been reclining on the long sofa, sat up, ”I didn’t expect Hill to follow tradition so closely! I was even thinking of organizing a promotion celebration for you after we return to Saral!

Otherwise, it would be a waste to give so many people a Legendary gift!”

”Hill has always respected etiquette,” Spencer said as he opened the box at the desk, exclaiming in surprise, ”Oh my! The Shield-back Sword!”

William couldn’t help but come over, ”This must be made by Hill himself, right? Truly a rich man, Refining things as he pleases!”

He looked at the oddly shaped long sword in Spencer’s hand, ”But it really suits you well. Such a thoughtful lad. Why don’t you bring out your shield and give it a try?”

Without needing to be prompted, Spencer immediately took out his own Legendary Shield from his ring, split a regular sword in two, and firmly attached the Shield-back Sword inside the shield.

”Perfect!” Spencer laughed, ”I was thinking about whether to switch to a Legendary Dagger! But a sheath that can attach to a shield is really hard to find.”

William shook his head and returned to sit on the sofa, ”If you have the chance, ask Hill if he has more. I’d wager he could Refine a High-Rank Legendary Shield-back Sword, and he probably has at least a dozen slightly inferior ones.

He’s from the Fran School; he never likes to leave things to chance, and he must have made many iterations of the same item.”

He finally revealed a sincere joy, ”Your promotion will likely inspire many in the Guardians to take the path of protection.”

Spencer nodded in agreement, ”If Hill and Adrian are about the same, then I guess he has quite a few Legendary swords.

I know Adrian well; when he makes Potions, he insists on crafting all types of a Potion to the highest standard, usually from the most common to the least demanded.”

”So, using the money from mass-produced goods to cover the costs?” William quickly understood, ”It seems they might spend a lot, but they also understand the need for a balanced budget!”

Spencer, satisfied, stowed away the great shield and sat down on the small sofa.

William looked at his cousin, ”Naven, are you really totally fine? If you’re hurt at all, don’t endure it.”

”If I were really injured, Hill wouldn’t have just walked away,” Spencer couldn’t help but laugh, ”His senses are so sharp.

Don’t worry, the length of my promotion was due to Gerns World giving too much.”

William was stunned for a moment and involuntarily let out an ”Ah?”

”I didn’t expect it to be so exciting, but I can understand why. In Gerns World, how could there be manifestations of Laws like protection, sacrifice, sincerity?” Spencer smiled helplessly, ”To make me talk more about the ideology of knights, He even let me stay in the room of Laws as I wished to perceive them.”

Spencer said quietly, ”Do you remember the virtues of a knight you told me? Humility, honor, sacrifice, courage, mercy, honesty, fairness, and spirituality.

The most important for a Guardian Knight are honor and sacrifice, courage and mercy, but it’s best to achieve the others as well.”

”I even recited the oath of a Guardian Knight you once created.”

But it wasn’t without benefits; a faint white glow rose from his hand, ”It’s a bit strange; the Law of Mercy allowed me to learn healing Divine Arts.”

This is not magic; I can feel it, it’s a kind of Divine Art.

”What’s up? Why are you looking at me like that?”

Spencer, quite puzzled, looked at the dumbfounded William.
