Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 567: Chapter 365: The Battle Watched by Two Yellow Sparrows

Six hours of resurrection time was truly agonizing for the Undead Tribe.

This wasn’t game time; it was their actual reality.

Although William had issued them a warning early on, those who insisted on going to their deaths could only curse him for not warning them enough.

They should never have been able to fly over there.

When Hill heard the Undead cursing William ruthlessly inside the giant screen, he couldn’t help but glance at the unfazed King.

The more vehemently they cursed, the happier William seemed to become.

William cheerfully poured himself a large cup of wine and, noticing Hill’s gaze, even asked him if he wanted one too.

Hill shook his head with a cold expression.

Watching William’s reaction, Hill recalled his own past gaming career.

When he passionately cursed the game designers for their inhumanity, were those being cursed raising their glasses in celebration?

The joys and sorrows of game designers and players are forever different.

Putting himself in the players’ shoes, Hill found William’s demeanor despicable, even though he knew these people had brought it upon themselves.

Hill’s attention returned to the giant screen before him. This member of the Undead Tribe had a good vantage point, able to see the battle between both sides very clearly in all directions.

After watching quietly for a while, Hill suddenly spoke up, ”I haven’t seen the Dark Tendrils yet, but there is a spider.”

”Rose?” William was taken aback as he sat up and asked, ”Is it our side’s Karula, or is it a new one?”

Hill shook his head, ”I can’t tell, she’s been hiding in a corner. If it weren’t for the water rising and forcing her to move with her silk, I wouldn’t have noticed her.

She’s now under that bell tower. That’s already the tallest place in the city.

The Elemental Sea is almost still, I’m not sure if it will rise high enough to reach where she’s stationed.”

When the God of Singing emerged hesitatingly, the water had already been pouring down for almost an hour.

Then, their strange battle continued for over four hours, and the six-hour duration of the spell Ring of Winter was about to end.

”Hill, Naven, do you think the God of Singing knows that Mephistopheles is stalling for time?” William asked curiously.

Hill thought he was feigning ignorance, it was obvious to anyone that the Demon Lord was incredibly perfunctory.

He did nothing but throw Infernal Fire and bang against the Great Shield.

”Does stalling for time disadvantage him?” Spencer, fixated on the battle playing out on the giant screen, didn’t turn as he said, ”He certainly knows what the Demon Lord is worried about, but he’s going along with it.

It’s clear that the later it gets, the more it works in his favor.”

”Then Shaer definitely hasn’t come,” William sighed, ”Otherwise, after she finished off Mephistopheles, she would certainly take out that Miliel as well.”

”Does he care about losing this incarnation?” Hill couldn’t help asking William.

In his perception, the God of Singing didn’t seem to value this incarnation much, as if it was something he could abandon at any time.

William paused, ”Why didn’t I think of that! Miliel is a deity of the Kind Alignment with a host of allies, the loss of an incarnation wouldn’t be too costly for him.

He’s paid such a high price for Mystra, it’s impossible that the Goddess of Magic wouldn’t compensate him!

Hill, pay attention now!

Mephistopheles’s plan has definitely failed. If Shaer truly has come, whether she attacks the devil or the spider, nobody can be sure.

Miliel dares to stall because he believes that Shaer, even if she comes to kill, will first target Mephistopheles.

Being a deity of the Kind Alignment, he wouldn’t abandon his allies; the Lady of the Lost will definitely target him last!

He likely doesn’t know the spider is also here; we just don’t know if it’s her in person.

Otherwise, he might not even continue the fight. Self-destructing this incarnation may not even be of any use; it would be better to defeat Mephistopheles first.”

”Why do you always assume that the Lady of the Lost wouldn’t send her minions?” Hill looked at William, ”And, why do you freely utter these deities’ names in this world? Is there no consequence?”

”No consequence,” William laughed, ”We don’t exist in this world, so the laws won’t transmit our messages.

Furthermore, the deities of this world are just devils in disguise, they can’t truly control the laws, only corrupt them. They can use the laws for their acts, but cannot command the laws to obey them.

As for Goddess Shaer, being the Goddess of Darkness, she is indeed the most powerful and of course, the most beautiful—I don’t see anyone but her.

This world has no deities with night or darkness in their divinity. If it did, Mephistopheles would have fled long ago.

His incarnation, daring to contest with the Lady of the Night!

However, she wouldn’t trust any of her minions when it comes to matters of the Shadow Weave. She would act on her own.”

Hill suspected William thought Shaer the most beautiful because she was a tall, black-haired beauty even if her eyes were purple with black pupils.

But he couldn’t help snickering to himself, regardless of how terrible her character and how venomous her personality, William clearly liked her appearance.

No wonder William is so familiar with everything in the DND world—he must be an old campaign runner, right?

Suddenly, his mind stirred, as if he heard a satisfied chuckle.

Hill couldn’t help but twitch the corner of his mouth; William really had struck it lucky!

But it was also fortunate that he praised sincerely, otherwise everyone in this room would have been doomed.

Even so, for Shaer to perceive that someone in this world was speaking of her, it had to be through the Law!

Hill abruptly rushed to the window and looked up at the Moon Ring outside.

Didn’t the streaks of black light on the Black Moon resemble the tendrils that always accompanied Shaer’s appearance?

He then silently gazed at the Red Moon. The blood-red light of the red moon was no less intense than that of the Black Moon beside it.

Hill quietly recalled: Didn’t Rose once say that she wanted the Goddess of the Hunt to raise a Red Moon from the Abyss for her?

William slowly followed Hill over and asked in a hushed voice, ”The Black Moon and the Red Moon?”

”If a powerful deity, even from an Evil Faction, were to devour the deities and Law of this world, could they then control everything at will?” Hill asked with an implied meaning.

Shaer inherently embodied the shadowy aspect of the moon; the Black Moon naturally fell easily under her control.

And Rose, she had always been attempting to gain control of the Abyss’s Red Moon.

Luckily, although William had openly spoken Shaer’s name, he had spoken well of her.

Even for that Lady of the Night, even her own followers secretly cursed her, let alone praised her appearance.

Even if William mentioned her all the time, she wouldn’t be offended.

Shaer’s wish was for her birthplace, Toril, to return to its original state of chaos; she did not concern herself much with Otherworlds, nor would she bother with people from other worlds.

If it weren’t for devils causing trouble, she wouldn’t even glance their way.

But William truly believed her to be the most beautiful woman in Ferun.

”Your Majesty the King, what incredible fortune,” Hill said sincerely, lifting his head.

The luck was indeed good, as Shaer could only hear someone speaking about her and could not possibly look into the hall through Coron’s power.

She wouldn’t care about being called suspicious, but would be thrilled to be sincerely praised as the strongest, most beautiful goddess.

Generally speaking, in Ferun, such praise would only belong to her twin sister, the Moon Goddess Suren.

However, Hill felt that both goddesses probably followed Miliel here.

Both Shaer’s Shadow Weave and Rose’s spider webs hung from the Goddess of Magic’s Weave; sometimes they could hear part of the things that even Mystra’s allies might not know.

And as long as the Weave existed, it was unable to rid itself of its own darker aspects, the Shadow Weave and the Dark Tendrils.

William quietly went back and sat down: ”The world of Gerns is truly fortunate. Otherwise, being shattered to pieces would be a good outcome.”

With a Demon Lord, a Demon Monarch, along with two Female Evil Gods, and the mischief from the God of Singing, if a real fight ensued, even the Abyss might not want such a broken world.

Yet, with the appearance of William and the Undead Tribe, all their preparations had to be reshuffled.

Moreover, Hill had purified that flawed web.

Mephistopheles was actually quite thoughtful; his Divine Kingdom essentially hung there for show, while he placed the web he built beneath the capital.

He probably thought that if a real enemy wanted to target his web, the primary target would be that Divine Kingdom.

At least, in the doctrines of all Magic Temples, it is the God of Magic who spread a network in the starry sky that allows everyone to learn spells, his greatest contribution to the world.

For this also highly suspicious Demon Lord, such intricately deceptive designs were quite normal.

Who would have known they’d encounter someone idle enough to directly summon a Sea of Elements?

The Elemental Realm has always been domineering; it would not easily allow so much pure sea water to be brought forth!

For the Weave filled with hatred and pain, torment and lies, this Elemental Water was the best means of purification.

However, even the deities might not be able to secure so much water from the Elemental Sea, and with that, all their schemes came to naught.

Hill slowly lowered his head, saying to himself: ”Encountering me is Gerns’s fortune.”

Divine Artifacts like the Ring of Winter are already rare enough, yet to encounter a whimsical Water God sealing such a strange Divine Arts onto it.

Despite this Divine Arts appearing to be only one sentence, it carried the Divine Power of a Sea God. If the Ring of Winter’s capacity to endure weren’t strong, it would already have split.

Hill touched the cold ring on his finger, feeling a little homesick for his own young lady.

”So... the other one knows about this goddess’s existence now?” Spencer asked cautiously of the two men, having understood that both Rose and Shaer had likely come to Gerns.

”Definitely,” William replied curtly. ”Don’t mention her anymore. She’d be interested in any world. Teraxil just got lucky, she’s more pleased that the Elven God King made a fool of Coron.”
