Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1166: Chapter 649: Arrival in the United States (2)

”This rationale is quite simple. Initially, I was just somewhat fond of someone, but suddenly someone shows up saying that the person I like isn’t worthy of my affection. My rebellious side is triggered, and I start to desperately defend the person I like. At this point, what I’m actually defending is not that person, but myself,” Zhou Lan said during a team meeting. ”Right now, Yuk Chu is gaining a lot of fans due to the drama ’Deep Sea’. Yuk Chu is one of the main actresses in this drama, but now He Wenyun has suddenly appeared. Many people say she’s outshining Yuk Chu and that she should play Yuk Chu’s role. We need to defend Yuk Chu, but we also need to know how to make the most of this opportunity.”

Someone questioned, ”But now many press releases claim He Wenyun is just making a guest appearance in ’Deep Sea’. They say her status is higher than Yuk Chu’s and accuse Yuk Chu’s side of intentionally belittling He Wenyun using her leading actress status. What do we do about that?”

Zhou Lan said, ”We need to see where Yuk Chu’s opportunity lies in this debate. First, it’s an undeniable fact that He Wenyun’s status is higher than Yuk Chu’s, so we don’t need to defend Yuk Chu in this aspect. We all know if ’Chinese Warrior’ is a box office hit, He Wenyun’s status could rise rapidly, closing in on Xiao Yun. Therefore, the issue we need to consider is how to make use of He Wenyun. For example, just a few days ago, I was negotiating with people from Yuehai, telling them not to bundle Xin Zhike with our Zhou Yun because I don’t want to give people the impression that Xin Zhike is a male lead worthy of being paired with Zhou Yun. We all know that in this drama, Xin Zhike is just the third lead. Put simply, the male protagonist is a supporting character in this drama. But why does Yuehai want to promote Xin Zhike alongside Zhou Yun? Because it’s extremely beneficial to Xin Zhike, with the most obvious benefit being boosting his status. Yuehai can rely on this strategy to deepen the impression on the public, making them believe Xin Zhike is a male actor who partners with Zhou Yun.”

”In other words, if I were Xin Zhike’s agent, would I do this? I definitely would.” Zhou Lan shrugged. ”With a different stance, the choices I make are different. Now, we are Yuk Chu’s agency team. If Yuehai releases press claiming He Wenyun’s acting skills surpass Yuk Chu’s and that He Wenyun is more beautiful, we’ll enter into a competition with them. Our goal is not to win or lose but to establish an aura of Yuk Chu and He Wenyun being evenly matched. They say He Wenyun’s acting is better, we’ll highlight Yuk Chu’s best performance moments. They say He Wenyun is more beautiful, we’ll emphasize Yuk Chu’s unique temperament and style compared to He Wenyun. They say He Wenyun will be the female lead in ’Chinese Warrior’, we’ll release news that Yuk Chu is in talks for a new film with a big director. In any case, it’s all smoke and mirrors, you get what I mean? In short, since people are focused on this issue, we need to take advantage of the publicity. First, aim to maximize Yuk Chu’s visibility. Second, strive to reinforce Yuk Chu’s strengths in the public’s mind. Third, work to create an industry impression that Yuk Chu does not fall behind in her competition with He Wenyun, that she is a worthy competitor. Accomplishing these three goals will provide us with the most vital advantage.”

...

Zheng Xiaojue heard someone from the team relay Zhou Lan’s words and then repeated them to Zhou Yun.

After listening, Zhou Yun felt quite moved.

Over the years as an agent, Zhou Lan’s methods have become more polished.

In the past, when problems arose, Zhou Lan’s first instinct might have been how to solve them. But now, her first instinct at any time is to find any exploitable opportunities.

Her perspective and realm have changed.

Zhou Yun said, ”You should learn from Sister Lan’s perspective on these issues, Xiaoju.”

Zheng Xiaojue nodded.

The two of them boarded the plane, facing a long journey ahead.

Originally, they were supposed to go to Berlin first for the Berlin Film Festival’s opening ceremony. But because of the release of ’Deep Sea’, she had to first go to the United States to work with Paimon at a ’Deep Sea’ fan meet-and-greet, promoting ’Deep Sea’s release in the United States. Then, she would fly from the United States to Berlin for the Berlin Film Festival’s opening ceremony.

Zhou Yun brought an e-reader for herself, planning to read on the plane.
