Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1162: Chapter 648: Deep Sea Premiere

The Deputy Director in charge of film and television content production at Yuehai, Liu Ziyang, came with another task today.

The current success of ”Deep Sea” made them realize even more deeply the importance of maintaining a long-term collaboration with Zhou Yun, so Yuehai wants to quickly confirm the next project with her.

At present, the film and television companies with which Zhou Yun has deep relationships are New Shield and Chengqian Film and Television. The former mainly focuses on movies, while the latter is because Zhou Yun herself is an actor with Chengqian, having starred in the dramas ”Dingfengbo” and ”Under the Grand Dress”.

However, both of these film and television companies are content producers, not platform operators.

The biggest difference with Yuehai is that it started out as a video platform, and now Yuehai Video is also one of the top video platforms in the industry.

No matter how popular Zhou Yun gets, the dramas she acts in still have to be broadcast on video platforms.

Yuehai has learned from previous lessons and is taking a more humble approach.

Liu Ziyang is showing genuine sincerity, hoping to collaborate with Zhou Yun.

”Xiao Yun, we’ve acquired the adaptation rights to a work that won the Jincheng Literary Award last year. We want to adapt it into a TV drama. It’s a big female lead story,” Liu Ziyang tells Zhou Yun. ”Would you like to take a look?”

Zhou Yun asks, ”Which work?”

Liu Ziyang replies, ”Flower City.”

Zhou Yun hasn’t heard of it.

But she is familiar with the Jincheng Literary Award.

The biggest difference with other literary awards is that it places a greater emphasis on the combination of literary quality and storytelling; both are indispensable.

Since ”Flower City” has won the Jincheng Literary Award, the original story must be exceptional, and both the storytelling and literary value should make it well worth adapting into a TV drama.

Upon hearing this, Zhou Yun indeed feels a bit tempted.

However, she hesitates when she thinks about her schedule.

”Director Liu, I’ve booked my entire schedule for next year,” Zhou Yun says.

Liu Ziyang replies, ”No problem, this project is still in the development phase. As long as you’re willing to act, we’ll wait for your availability.”

Zhou Yun is somewhat surprised, having never found Yuehai to be so accommodating in their dealings.

Among the video platforms she has engaged with, Yuehai has always had the highest stance. Of course, it is justified in doing so, as traditional TV stations are in decline, and online video platforms are becoming the main viewing platform in the film and television industry. It is hard for celebrities who want to assert themselves to negotiate with leading video platforms, as the latter holds the strongest negotiating power.

Zhou Yun says, ”Then I’ll read the original novel first.”

”Of course, no problem,” Liu Ziyang’s task for tonight is just to get Zhou Yun interested in the project; the rest cannot be settled in one night.

Zhou Yun originally thought the collaboration invitation would stop with Liu Ziyang, but to her surprise, high-level executives from Paimon also approached her, saying they had two projects in preparation and asked if she was available. Zhou Yun wondered that if Paimon was interested in her earlier, why had many projects sought out He Wenyun instead of her? Why suddenly come to her now?

Zhou Yun politely said she needs to see the script first.

Especially with the Hollywood projects, Zhou Yun is cautious about committing without seeing the script and the production team.

Who knows what kind of projects these would be?

There are just as many bad films in Hollywood, and those that make it to the domestic audience are usually well-filtered.

The current stats for ”Deep Sea” are excellent, but the only uncertainty is whether it will be well-received by the international audience on Paimon’s streaming media.

Regardless of its reputation, it is certain that the viewer numbers for ”Deep Sea” won’t be lacking.

Even if the reviews are poor, the current buzz can still make it commercially successful and profitable.

But the situation is different on Paimon streaming. Being a Chinese-language drama with an all-foreign cast and Asian faces, it is not within the familiar viewing range for Paimon’s mainstream audience.

Of course, Paimon’s streaming media does not place much importance on this drama. What they value is Zhou Yun’s rising fame in North America during this period. By attending several major award ceremonies and entering the sight of European and American audiences, Zhou Yun can attract some viewers to this drama during this peak period, especially Asian audiences; and that suffices.
