Chapter 250: Chapter 201: Wu Ting, Are You Trying to Become Emperor?

City First Hospital was quite peaceful. Most people would hardly notice a paper published in a journal on the other side of the ocean, let alone the movements of top pharmaceutical corporations.

Director Huo, however, had been extremely busy lately. He was preoccupied with submitting Wu Ting’s achievement—the Perfect Triple Method for assisting laparoscopic surgery—for the provincial Science and Technology Progress Award selection process.

Huo Yun had a connection with Lin Cong, the head of the Achievements Division at the Jin Province Science and Technology Bureau.

Huo Yun had been quite charming in his youth, and Lin Cong was what you might call his first love.

However, after he started medical school, the demanding coursework and long distance eventually led to their breakup.

Even after all these years, Huo Yun and Lin Cong had remained on good terms.

Huo Yun placed great importance on Wu Ting’s award submission, so he reached out to Lin Cong.

Lin Cong also took the project from Wu Ting’s team quite seriously.

She immediately assigned her staff to assist Director Huo with the entire project submission.

After the recommendation letter was filled out, the subsequent steps—technical evaluation certificates, review opinions, auditing materials, papers, patent results, and reports on the social benefits and application status at City First Hospital—were all pushed forward as quickly as possible.

The review process for the Jin Province Science and Technology Progress Award is divided into the following stages:

”Nomination and Formal Review, Online Evaluation, and Professional Group Defense.”

Under the normal timeline, the first stage alone required collecting so much data and material that Wu Ting’s team would have certainly missed the deadline for the final selection.

But with Director Huo pulling some strings, the review and evaluation could proceed simultaneously, while the Laparoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment Technology Research Center at City First Hospital supplemented the necessary documents along the way.

Of course, all this data and content was authentic, and it could all be fully signed and stamped before the formal review began.

Director Huo had his own personal reasons for being in such a hurry to secure this Science and Technology Progress Award for Wu Ting.

First, winning this provincial Science and Technology Progress Award would mean the Emergency Department at City First Hospital would finally meet all the criteria and points needed to apply for designation as a Provincial Laparoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment Specialty.

And second, with the honor of this provincial award, plus his other qualifications, Wu Ting could be fast-tracked for a promotion to associate chief physician!

Compared to the first reason, the second was actually what Director Huo was most anxious about.

Wu Ting’s growth had been astonishingly fast recently. With his current skill level, abilities, and the prestige he held in the Emergency Department, Hepatobiliary Surgery, and other collaborating departments, he was more than worthy of an associate director’s position!

If it weren’t for the fact that Wu Ting was too young and didn’t meet the strict prerequisites, Huo Yun felt that even giving him a full director position wouldn’t be out of line.

Huo Yun had also come to a clear realization: with Wu Ting’s talent, he no longer needed to be confined to the Emergency Department or the Laparoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment Technology Research Center. He ought to be given a broader stage to perform on.

Wu Ting’s current title and role as a resident physician still had many limitations. Promoting him to associate chief physician now would allow him to operate with a much freer hand and grant him the authority to take on more work.

Huo Yun had also carefully confirmed with Lin Cong that once the online evaluation was finished, a defense could be arranged for Wu Ting’s research group within seven days at the earliest. After the process was complete, the results could be announced.

According to the relevant policies of the Jin Province Science and Technology Bureau, first and second-place awards required a public announcement and a defense.

Therefore, this was the fastest timeline possible without violating regulations.

’Wu Ting, oh, Wu Ting, you’re growing way too fast. It feels like just yesterday I promoted you to chief resident, and now you’ve produced so many more achievements.’

As Huo Yun left Lin Cong’s house, he lit a cigarette and sighed with emotion.

Lately, Wu Ting had been focused on research in hepatobiliary surgery, and his graduate thesis was also in a related field. Huo Yun had a feeling that the kid would probably have some more surprises in store for Cai Qi soon.

...

...

In the Emergency Department.

Yasui was on a routine shift, while Wu Ting, as the senior doctor on call, was gleefully preparing for his graduate thesis defense.

Just as Yasui finished with a patient, a commotion erupted from the main hall.

A moment later, Xiao Xixi came to find Yasui. The emergency department had just admitted a rather difficult patient.

Yasui went over to inquire about the situation.

The patient was 49 years old and a chronic drinker. He typically had a ”morning drink” to start his day and would drink again in the evening.

The liquor he drank was a custom-distilled sorghum spirit, and he would buy it in bulk—four fifty-jin vats at a time.

His chronic drinking led to liver cirrhosis, so his family, fearing for his safety, forced him to stop.

Less than a week after quitting, the patient began to show symptoms and was sent to Yu State Hospital. After a diagnosis there, they determined he was suffering from alcohol withdrawal syndrome.

He was given symptomatic treatment, but his condition didn’t improve. In the last two days, he had developed abnormal behavior, lethargy, and constipation.

The family became extremely worried and brought the patient to the Emergency Department at City First Hospital.

Presented with the patient’s case, Yasui had no idea how to diagnose such a strange illness.

Thinking it might be a liver-related issue caused by long-term excessive drinking, Yasui immediately contacted Director Cai Qi of Hepatobiliary Surgery.
