Doctor: I Can Synthesize Infinite Entries

Chapter 217: Chapter 190: Submitting to the World-Class Journal, Cell (2)

”We also wish for Comrade Li Ai’s speedy recovery, so she may continue her contributions to our nation’s defense.”

”It has been an honor and a point of pride for our entire team to treat a scientist like Comrade Li Ai.”

Dean Song, on behalf of City First Hospital, also expressed his gratitude and well wishes to Comrade Li Ai.

Li Qing and the attending official accepted these well wishes and this recognition.

Li Ai was worthy of it. Everyone believed that when she finally achieved her goals, the news would make the entire nation of Jin Country proud!

...

...

To the doctors, Comrade Li Ai was but one patient among thousands. Her surgery was complete.

The entire medical team disbanded, its members returning to their respective posts.

Meanwhile, Shen Siyuan found Wu Ting to discuss the details of his upcoming research project.

Shen Siyuan jotted down some notes, then spent the next three days working tirelessly on Wu Ting’s behalf. Finally, she had a solid plan of action.

Sporting faint dark circles under her eyes, Shen Siyuan found Wu Ting and began to lay out the plan:

”Wu Ting, your project has already shown some promising results. All that’s left is to formally launch it and write your paper.”

”Since you’re set on using this for your master’s thesis, I suggest you write a project proposal. I’ll arrange for an expert review committee. Once they approve your project, we can submit it.”

”To ensure your project gets the maximum possible support, I recommend you apply for funding from our college. A project like yours should be eligible for the highest level of financial assistance.”

”Of course, there’s a catch. If you use the school’s research funds, the fruits of your research will belong to the school.”

Shen Siyuan laid out the pros and cons.

Wu Ting had never been a graduate student, nor had he ever applied for project funding, so he was surprised by the steep price.

Wu Ting was well aware of his project’s value and potential. How could he just hand it over?

Seeing Wu Ting’s reaction, Shen Siyuan gave a knowing smile. She had anticipated this.

”That’s why I’ve already thought this through for you. There is another way. We still register it as a college project—that will help your research proceed smoothly and allow you to legitimately get support from other relevant departments. However, when it comes to funding, you won’t apply for it from the college. You’ll provide the funds yourself.”

”That way, when the project bears fruit, all the patent rights will be yours.”

”Fund it myself?”

Wu Ting clearly hadn’t expected Director Shen to suggest such an approach. The project had four stages and would require a massive amount of funding. Where was he supposed to get that kind of money by himself?

The corner of Wu Ting’s mouth twitched. ’Does Teacher Shen think I’m some rich kid who’s rolling in cash?’

Shen Siyuan found Wu Ting’s predicament rather amusing. She explained slowly,

”Of course, that’s just the official story for the college—that you’re self-funding. But with the legitimacy of a college-sanctioned project, you can ’recruit’ students and teachers from our Medical College, as well as doctors from the hospital, to join your research group. They can provide you with the data you need for your experimental and control groups.”

”As for the source of the funds... I’ve already found a good prospect for you.”

”Do you remember our last trip to the School of Life Sciences at Jinggang University? Specifically, Professor Jin and his granddaughter, Deng Feifei.”

Shen Siyuan had spent the past few days running around and putting in a great deal of effort for Wu Ting.

After all, when a student showed so much promise, their teacher had to put in some effort too.

’Professor Jin of the Jin Pharmaceutical Group, and his granddaughter, Deng Feifei.’

Wu Ting had previously looked into Professor Jin, as well as his daughter and granddaughter, Deng Feifei.

With capital of at least a hundred billion, the Jin Pharmaceutical Group was truly one of the smaller giants in the domestic pharmaceutical industry.

”You made a strong impression on Professor Jin at his Q&A session.”

”The Jin Pharmaceutical Group is always hungry for talent, especially brilliant young people from right here in Jin Province. They never hesitate to offer high salaries to recruit them.”

”Your talent and brilliance in the field of immunology left Professor Jin thoroughly impressed. Deng Feifei later contacted me, saying she wanted to get to know you. She also seemed interested in arranging a meeting for you with Professor Jin.”

”So, my hope is that you’ll first prepare your project proposal and a complete literature review for your paper.”

”Make it as ambitious and far-reaching as you can.”

”You planned to pioneer a definitive cure for hepatitis B-related primary liver cancer, right? And you divided it into four stages based on the disease’s progression.”

”So far, you have a prototype for Stage One and you’ve grasped the core negative immune regulation mechanism for Stage Two. For Stages Three and Four, you can just flesh out some conceptual ideas for now.”

”Here’s what we’ll do next...”

Shen Siyuan was a true genius when it came to research. Moreover, she was a master of grantsmanship, possessing a flexible ethical framework and a knack for securing project funding.

”Use the entire four-stage project as your grand concept. Then, refine the core immune regulation mechanism from Stage Two and submit it to a top international journal. Based on my assessment of your findings, you could even aim for one of the big three: *Cell*.”

”At the same time, I’ll take your proposal and literature review to the college administration and request an expert panel to review your project. You’re familiar with the panel members, and they carry enough weight to give it the green light.”
