Doctor: I Can Synthesize Infinite Entries

Chapter 226: Chapter 193: Paper Accepted: Cell Special Issue

The more Ke Chaomin learned about this team, the more unfathomable he found it.

As a veteran at shaping public opinion, Ke Chaomin planned to build his story around the project’s one-yuan budget. He intended to portray it as nothing more than a vanity project, completely denying its academic value and feasibility.

To make his article more provocative and credible, Ke Chaomin went so far as to interview several medical professionals in the relevant fields.

As it turned out, the results were just what he’d hoped for.

The director of a liver tumor department at a hospital in Xiao City, Jin Province, offered a particularly scornful assessment.

”A project like this is simply impossible. How could a single graduate student possibly develop a radical cure for hepatitis B-related primary liver cancer?”

”This project is far too ambitious. Just proposing the so-called ’negative immune regulation mechanism’ from its second phase would be enough to get published in a top-tier journal like Science. Any researcher with a shred of common sense would look at this and think it’s not a project for a medical school, but a piece of performance art from an art school!”

Some even more cynical professionals offered their own plausible theories:

”This is probably just some rich kid using his family’s money to pay the faculty and students of the relevant departments at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital to play along with his little game. Kicking off a project like this with so much fanfare... I can’t wait to see how he plans to clean up this mess when it’s time to deliver the results.”

”Jinggang University Medical College is really going downhill. A one-yuan project? Is this a joke? Scientific research is supposed to be serious and rigorous. Approving a project like this tarnishes the reputation of Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital.”

Of course, the interviewees also included some interns from the relevant departments at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital.

”I think it’s a great initiative. It lets young doctors like us participate in a research project where we can not only earn decent pay but also gain valuable lab experience. It really boosts morale for young medical researchers. It’s a fantastic opportunity.”

...

Overall, most professionals expressed confusion and disapproval toward this one-yuan project, viewing it as a grandiose and highly impractical research endeavor.

Ke Chaomin wove these opinions into his article:

Jinggang University Shocks with One-Yuan Project: An Ambitious but Unfeasible Study. A Rich Kid’s Vanity Project, or Performance Art?

Soon, the report was published in the Xiao City Science and Technology Daily and was simultaneously shared across social media.

Among the responses, a commentary by You Wei, Director of Oncological Surgery at Xiao City People’s Hospital, was particularly scathing:

Jinggang University Medical College Graduate’s One-Yuan Project: An Absurd Attempt to Cure Liver Cancer, or a New Form of Academic Misconduct?

The article began by describing the ”one-yuan project” farce at Jinggang University Medical College.

It then went on to educate its readers on the definition of academic misconduct:

Academic misconduct violates the spirit of scientific inquiry and the fundamental principles of research. It is more than just a moral failing; it severely compromises the quality and planning of higher education for all students...

The piece then argued against the dangers and impact of this ”alternative” form of academic misconduct:

It undermines academic discipline and order, stifles innovation, and disrespects the years of accumulated knowledge and vision that true academic research is built upon. To see such a crude, unfeasible, performance-art-like project born from such overweening ambition—a mere graduate student claiming they can cure hepatitis B-related primary liver cancer—is an insult to all of us who work in the field of oncology.

It is beyond comprehension why the Jinggang University Medical School Graduate Department would approve such a project. Allowing it to be officially registered as an academic project, simply because someone is throwing around a bit of money for faculty and students to pocket a meager profit, is outrageous. This will bring an indelible and malicious influence to the research efforts of all universities in our Jin Province!

Furthermore, every participant in this project group has betrayed the spirit of science and is responsible for a gross waste of academic resources. Science should be about seeking truth from facts—a pragmatic and pioneering endeavor. This mockery of academic integrity not only damages the very foundation of the scientific spirit but also misappropriates the nation’s limited academic resources. It is completely detrimental to the development of both society and the individuals involved.

Director You Wei further used his commentary to urge the faculty and students of Jinggang University Medical College, as well as the junior doctors in the relevant departments of Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital, not to forsake the spirit of research and waste their time and lives for the sake of a small paycheck.

A project like this has no future. If you don’t believe me, just wait and watch it fizzle out in disgrace.

In fact, a project like this would never even get the chance to reach a proper conclusion.

Director You even pinned this commentary to the top of his page. He was eager to see how the directors of the relevant departments at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital would handle the fallout.

Such academic infighting was common in the medical field. Director You was already at odds with people like Director Fu and Director Shen, so of course he would seize an opportunity like this to launch a fierce attack.

Thanks to the Xiao City Science and Technology Daily, and especially the scathing commentary from Director You Wei of Xiao City First People’s Hospital, Wu Ting’s one-yuan project shot to the top of the trending topics list!
