I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 439, Rotation Between Two Teams

The sunlight was radiant, with gentle rays spreading across the entire land. The Flame Dragon Tribe welcomed a new day.

Since the end of the rainy season, construction work in the Flame Dragon Tribe had been progressing vigorously.

Within the Tribe, some were digging foundations, others polishing stone blocks, some were making wood ash cement, and others paving roads. Everyone had their own work, too busy to talk.

In their eyes now, they only focused on working well to get rewarded with food to eat. They had no spare time for chit-chat.

In the Primitive Era, they prioritized food above all else. Everything they did was for food.

It had been several days since the end of the rainy season, and many wooden houses in the Tribe had been completely dismantled. In their place were excavated foundations and cement houses under construction.

In front of each foundation gathered several hundred people, all cooperating and dividing up the work, all to build those cement houses before the snow season arrives.

Su Bai stood before the floor-to-ceiling window watching this scene, nodding with satisfaction at the speed of progress.

It was much faster than when they first started construction, as people had gained experience and worked more efficiently. Whether digging foundations, polishing stone blocks, or cementing two stones together, everything was faster than before.

“At this rate, we should be able to build about half of everything before the snow season arrives,” Su Bai softly commented.

The insulation of cement houses needed no explanation. They were far better than wooden houses. Moreover, cement houses provided a greater sense of security, with wall durability far superior to wooden houses.

During the rainy season, wooden houses could withstand somewhat, although they would often leak. They were at least not too cold.

But when the snow season came, wooden houses would struggle to be comfortable. Even with people inside, they would need to wear thick Animal Hide clothing to stay warm. After all, the current wooden houses could not efficiently store heat. Even with a fire pit, it would still be cold.

They simply did not have the tool to make the wood pieces perfectly seamless; there would always be gaps of various sizes between them. Once the cold wind came, they often penetrated through these small gaps into the wooden houses. As a result, the interior of wooden houses remained cold, only slightly warmer than the outside.

But cement houses were truly better at insulating and storing heat. They also provided a more solid shelter.

This was why Su Bai wanted to replace all the wooden houses in the Flame Dragon Tribe with cement houses. Besides developing the Flame Dragon Tribe into a city, he also wanted the people of the Tribe to live better lives.

To improve their lives, the living environment was the first thing they needed to enhance.

It was not just for the Tribe’s people but also for himself, as no one knew whether he could return after being transmigrated here.

If he could not go back to his modern life, he would make living here decent.

With the System Daily Check Ins, he could live well in this Primitive Era. He just needed to use the knowledge in his mind to gradually improve the Tribe.

After all, he currently held the highest position in the Tribe, so planning and arranging such matters was straight forward. He just needed to order others to execute the ideas in his mind, and the Tribe would move towards that direction. It was only a matter of time before the development for the Tribe reached a passable standard.

“Shaman, can we replace all the wooden houses with cement houses before the snow season arrives?” Yu Ying curiously asked.

She had noticed everyone in the Tribe working intensively lately, but there were less than twenty days left before the snow season comes.

Despite everyone rushing to work, she felt it might not be possible to replace all wooden houses with cement houses before the snow season arrives.

“Replacing them all with cement houses might not be possible, but most should be completed.” Su Bai said.

That was why not all wooden houses in the Tribe had been completely dismantled; a large portion of them remained.

This was a precaution—if all cement houses were not built by the time the snow season arrived, and there were no wooden houses, where would the people live?

He only had some dismantled, clearing space for them to build cement houses.

After those cement houses were completed, they would dismantle more wooden houses and repeat the process.

This repetitive building process was not only safer but also ensured better quality houses.

With many people working on one house, there was a clear division of labour, with progress being smooth and predictable.

“But it seems the roads should be completely paved. Much progress has already been made on the roads.” Yu Ying said.

Besides checking the sheep pen and cattle pen daily, she also spent time watching the road being paved.

She found it amazing to see cement poured on the ground and smoothed with wooden boards to form flat roads.

She also liked walking on them. They were stable and not muddy.

“Yes, road paving needs to be expedited. It would not be good if the carriages were made but the roads aren’t ready,” Su Bai said.

Indeed, the hot air balloon test flight had been completely successful. It also took only one day to fly from the Tribe to the Hunting Ground. This saved two days compared to them having to walk. During the test flight, they also brought back prey hunted by the Hunting Team.

Since their food was taken back first, the Hunting Team stayed a few more days to hunt for more food.

They planned to wait for the hot air balloon to return and switch with the second Hunting Team.

They would return with the food, allowing the second Hunting Team to continue hunting, and after resting for some days, they would go back to replace the second team.

This method was devised by Su Bai to maximize food collection before the snow season.

This way, they would not waste time traveling back and forth. With twenty days left before the snow season, if they counted the round trip to the Hunting Ground, more than half the time would be wasted travelling.

But with the hot air balloon, these few days of time could be saved.

Two Hunting Teams rotating to hunt would gather more food, and with this rotation, they would not get too tired.

After all, they were just sitting in the hot air balloon going back and forth, not expending much energy.
