I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 407, Tomato

The sky looked as if it had been torn with a large opening, and the rain kept pouring down steadily.

Yu Ying walked back from the greenhouse while holding an umbrella, with one hand supporting the umbrella and the other carrying a wooden basket.

The wooden basket was filled with bright red tomatoes, and those tomatoes were extremely large in size.

Moreover, the bright red skin was covered with water droplets, and the crystal-clear droplets on the red skin of the tomatoes looked particularly beautiful.

The overall impression made the tomatoes seem exceptionally fresh.

Counting roughly, there were more than ten tomatoes that had ripened this morning.

When she went to check the greenhouse, she immediately noticed the bright red area.

When she approached, she discovered that the tomatoes had ripened. Yu Ying had Su Bai say that tomatoes were considered ripe once they turned red. At that point, they could be harvested.

“I wonder if they taste good?” Yu Ying looked down at the tomatoes in the basket. She was in an excellent mood; she was incredibly happy when she saw the tomatoes ripen.

Ever since the tomatoes were planted, she had been eagerly anticipating their ripening! Now that they had finally matured, she was naturally delighted. Though, maybe her stomach was happier than she herself.

However, she was very puzzled about why tomatoes were initially green, then turned red like they were signalling they were ready to be eaten.

“There’s plenty of sheep milk and cow milk too. I milked more than usual today!” Yu Ying said happily.

She skipped joyfully to the cement house, set the umbrella aside, and began heading to the second floor.

*Step step step…*

“Shaman, I’m back,” Yu Ying said cheerfully, placing the tomatoes on the table.

“Why are you so happy today?” Su Bai asked, though he was quite happy himself.

“Shaman, the tomatoes have ripened. I picked them and brought them back. Take a look,” Yu Ying said with a smile.

She took out the bottles of sheep milk and cow milk from the wooden basket, then handed over the basket of tomatoes.

Su Bai took the wooden basket and looked at the bright red tomatoes inside. With a smile, he said, “Great. The tomatoes have ripened and are ready to eat.”

[The tomatoes had grown much faster. They have fully ripened in less than ten days! What’s more, they all look so big and have this bright red lustre to them. They look absolutely scrumptious.]

“Really?” Yu Ying’s pink eyes widened with delight as she asked curiously, “Shaman, how should we eat the tomatoes?”

She was eager to know what they tasted like.

“You can just eat them directly. In fact, they can be eaten raw.” Su Bai said, taking a bite from one tomato.

With one bite into the large red tomato, the juice immediately flowed out. The freshness was visible to the naked eye. Furthermore, the large red tomato was very crisp and sweet-sour, making it very refreshing to eat.

Yu Ying was momentarily stunned before also taking a tomato and biting into it. Instantly, her pink eyes opened wide.

The taste of the tomato amazed her. It was her first time trying food with this flavour!

It was a refreshingly sweet-sour taste, and the juice inside the tomato filled her mouth, providing a pleasant surprise. The feeling was truly wonderful.

“Shaman, this… this tomato tastes great.” Yu Ying said while still biting into the tomato.

She was so happy that her pink fox tail kept wagging, her face filled with satisfaction.

“They can be used to make many delicious dishes, you know?” Su Bai smiled.

“Make many dishes? Aren’t these fruits? They can be used to make food?” Yu Ying asked in surprise.

“Of course. Dishes are made with many ingredients and tomatoes are just one of them. These dishes are naturally also going to be amazing.” Su Bai raised his thick black eyebrows.

Yu Ying blinked her pink eyes and asked curiously, “Shaman, what can be made with tomatoes?”

“You can make tomato meat sauce Wolf Tail Grass Noodle, tomato egg drop soup, and also tomato scrambled eggs. All of these are amazing.” Su Bai smiled.

Tomato scrambled eggs were an enduring delicacy. Although the cooking method was very simple, the taste was captivating. If one had not tried it, they would have lived a life in vain.

“Tomato scrambled eggs?” Yu Ying blinked her pink eyes and asked, “Is that made with wild chicken eggs?”

“Yes, it is an amazing pairing. Come, bring me some chicken eggs, and I’ll make a serving.” Su Bai smiled.

After talking about it, he had the strong desire to eat tomato scrambled eggs. It had been too long since he had them.

“Okay,” Yu Ying responded immediately.

*Step step step…*  Yan Hua and Sha Lan soon came to the second floor from outside while patting the water stains off their shoulders.

“Shaman, we’re here,” Yan Hua said, swinging her cat tail. She had been training all morning.

Yan Hua had been quite happy these past few days and very attentive during training because she had seen and experienced many fascinating things.

She had just seen how they could milk sheep, milk cows, the adult plants in the greenhouse, as well as the fun fishing activities by the river, and so on.

“Shaman, what are these?” Sha Lan immediately noticed the tomatoes in the wooden basket.

“Try them. These are tomatoes that have ripened and are ready to eat.” Su Bai said softly.

Sha Lan blinked her blue eyes, picked up a tomato, and examined it for a long time before exclaiming in surprise, “So this is a tomato?”

Sha Lan found it incredible. [Wait. Weren’t they just green leaves at first? Weren’t the flowers yellow? And weren’t the fruits initially green? How are they now bright red?]

“Yes, they turn red when they’re ripe. Give them a try; they taste great.” Su Bai understood her confusion.

“Can these be eaten directly?” Yan Hua asked curiously.

“Yes, just eat them directly, but take a smaller first bite so the juice doesn’t spray out,” Su Bai cautioned.

If one bit too big a piece, the tomato juice would spray out directly, and that tomato juice was the essence of its taste.

Yan Hua, with a bewildered expression, picked up a tomato and took a bite. Her red eyes widened with shock at the taste.

She chewed several times, then after swallowing, said, “Shaman, these tomatoes taste incredibly good.”

“Yes, I didn’t realize tomatoes were so delicious.” Sha Lan was also amazed.

The two quickly finished eating the entire tomatoes, finding the taste utterly addictive.

“Just eat one or two; don’t eat too many. Su Bai advised. Tomatoes were cooling foods and eating too many at once could cause diarrhoea.

“Why is that?” Yan Hua asked curiously, already holding a second tomato.

“Eating too many will make your stomach upset. You wouldn’t want to keep running to the bathroom, would you?” Su Bai asked with a smile.

Yan Hua shook her head without hesitation but still took another bite of the large red tomato in her hand.
