I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 416, Sweet Grain

Translator: Silavin

“Seeds of things that can be eaten.” Yan Jiao said earnestly.

What he wanted to ask about was simply some crop seeds, except people in the Primitive Era did not even know what crops were.

“Things that can be eaten? Is the Chieftain referring to berries?” Li asked curiously.

She was not very clear about some matters in the Tribe, only knowing that the food they usually ate was managed by someone.

“Things like that, but not berries, apart from food like dried meat.” Yan Jiao shook his head.

Li frowned slightly in thought, then said, “I think we actually do have something like that. We call them Sweet Grain.”

The young girl fidgeted with her long lizard tail, having almost forgotten about this thing.

“Sweet Grain? What is that?” Yan Jiao heard this food name for the first time.

“It’s long, and we often eat it raw. It tastes very good.” Li replied without hesitation.

Yan Jiao frowned slightly and asked, “Is this food similar to berries?”

“It should be considered a berry, but there aren’t many of them, only a few, and we don’t often have the chance to eat them.” Li said.

Yan Jiao nodded thoughtfully and said, “Good, then bring some for us to see. If we find them suitable, we can trade with you.”

He still did not quite understand what kind of food Sweet Grain was. He would have to see it to know what it was like, and whether it would be useful for the Tribe.

“Then may I ask what the Chieftain’s Tribe has that can be traded with us?” Li asked.

Since they had mentioned trading, and she had told them what her Tribe had, she also needed to know what the other Tribe had to offer.

“Linen, ceramics.” Yan Jiao proudly said.

These two items could be said to be the foundation of the Tribe. Either one could be traded for a lot of food.

“I know what linen is, but what are ceramics?” Li looked confused.

“That.” Yan Jiao glanced sideways at the ceramic ornaments displayed on the wooden shelf nearby.

Li followed his gaze and saw the large ceramic piece on the wooden shelf. She was instantly stunned. Her red eyes widened in surprise as she exclaimed, “That’s ceramics? Isn’t that natural stone?”

She thought the object was truly amazing, with its flowing lines and attractive shape. She thought it was a stone made by nature, an absolutely astonishing find.

“This is something from our Tribe. Does your Tribe want it?” Yan Jiao bluntly asked.

It was better not to tell others too much about ceramics and just trade with them directly.

“This thing called… ceramics is very beautiful,” Li paused, then continued, “I like it very much, but I don’t know if my Father will like it.”

The lizard girl was not very sure if the people in her Tribe would like it, although she personally loved it.

“Take one back and tell your Father. If it’s acceptable, bring things to trade for more,” Yan Jiao generously said.

At this point, it was necessary to let the other party get a taste of the benefits. Otherwise, they would not know what ceramics were, and would certainly not collaborate so easily.

Besides, it was just one ceramic piece. The Flame Dragon Tribe had been producing ceramics for a long time now, unlike before.

Although the lizard girl already knew the value of ceramics, the people of the Giant Bear Tribe were still aware of it.

“Really? Can we really take it back?” Li asked in surprise.

She had not examined the ceramics up close yet, just glanced at it from afar, she knew that ceramics were amazing items.

They currently had nothing with them, having stayed in the Flame Dragon Tribe for over a month, they were now being offered ceramics to take back. She suddenly felt a sense of unexpected embarrassment.

Yan Jiao had someone bring over a small ceramic bowl, handed it over and said, “You can take this back.”

It was certainly impossible to give them the large decorative ceramic vase. Those were very rare in the Tribe. Moreover, that object was not easy to carry, and the four of them were only Warrior Trainees, who could easily get into accidents and break it on the way. It was better to give them a ceramic bowl, which was convenient, small, and easy to carry and protect.

Li took the ceramic bowl and examined it carefully, exclaiming in astonishment, “It’s so beautiful!”

After coming into close contact with the ceramic bowl, she was even more amazed.

The feeling of touching ceramics was very different from touching stone. Moreover, the crafting of the ceramic bowl was very different, with flowing lines that were captivating. The overall shape was also quite different from the stones they usually saw.

“It’s really beautiful. Is this ceramic? Is it a kind of stone?” Kai asked.

“It should be, though it doesn’t look very sturdy,” Luo also reached out to touch it.

“If it’s stone, why haven’t we seen it before?” Lan had a different opinion.

She thought, [How could stone naturally form like this? Ordinary stones also did not have such well-defined and flowy patterned lines.]

“Chieftain, may I ask if this ceramic is stone?” Li asked. She thought, instead of the group talking back and forth, it would be better to ask directly.

“Don’t ask so many questions, just take it back.” Yan Jiao firmly said.

Goods of the Flame Dragon Tribe could not be casually revealed to others. These items were the foundation of the Tribe.

“Understood. We’ll take it back for our Chieftain to have a good look at it first, and then decide whether to cooperate with you.” Li said.

“Chieftain, you only want our Sweet Grain seeds, is that right?” Kai added.

Yan Jiao shook his head slightly and said, “Seeds alone cannot be traded for our large quantities of ceramics. We still need dried meat.”

“I understand. I will definitely tell my Father when we return.” Kai said seriously.

“En,” Yan Jiao nodded slightly.

*Step step step…*

Li and the other three soon stepped out of the cement house, carefully holding the ceramic bowl.

Li was extremely careful, clutching the ceramic bowl tightly with both hands, afraid that something might go wrong.

“This time, when we return, we definitely won’t be scolded. To think we have obtained such a great item.” Kai smiled.

At first, everyone had been quite worried because this training expedition had failed, and instead they had been stranded in another Tribe for over a month.

More importantly, they had not observed other Tribes at all and had absolutely nothing to bring back.

They had completely failed to achieve the fundamental purpose of this expedition, so they would definitely be scolded upon their return.

“Yes, with this, Father will certainly not be angry.” Li smiled too.
