I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 438, The Greatest Trust

Shan frowned and carefully examined the ceramic in his hand once more, asking, “What did they say about this thing? What do they want in exchange for it?”

He was moved by it. He had fallen in love with this ceramic without knowing why or what exactly this thing was. This was something he had never seen before, yet he fell in love with it at first sight.

Perhaps it was the flowing lines of the ceramic bowl, its deep brown appearance, and that unidentifiable shape—all of these made his heart race.

Having lived for so long and having managed the Tribe for such a lengthy period, he had seen many other Tribes, but he had never encountered an object like this before.

This ceramic bowl before him could be described as unique; it would certainly look impressive if displayed in a prominent position.

“They want our Sweet Grain Seeds and some dried meat.” Kai relayed the original message. At this moment, he was still very excited. If his Father agreed, wouldn’t he be able to visit the Flame Dragon Tribe again?

His greatest desire now was to visit the Flame Dragon Tribe once more. He felt that the environment there was far superior to that of the Giant Bear Tribe.

He also felt that the food there tasted better, with a completely different flavour.

In his heart, he kept thinking how wonderful it would be if he could live directly in the Flame Dragon Tribe and become one of their people.

“They want our Sweet Grain?” Shan frowned and continued asking, “How did they know we have Sweet Grain?

After all, this food is only available in the Giant Bear Tribe; it did not exist anywhere else.

This food was discovered by the Ancestors of the Giant Bear Tribe from the distant mountains, then brought here to be planted and harvested until the present day. They had never given this food to anyone from other Tribes. Even within the Giant Bear Tribe, only a select few could taste it.

Unless one was of noble status or possessed great abilities, then they might have a chance to receive a portion of it. Others could not even hope to see it.

Even those who could eat Sweet Grain only saw it in its prepared form; they were not very clear about its original appearance.

This food was considered quite mysterious within the Giant Bear Tribe. Although most people knew of its existence, they did not understand the specifics. They only knew that this food was something to be kept secret in the Tribe and should not be easily obtained by people from other Tribes.

“Well…” Kai was stunned, hesitating for quite a while before continuing, “I told them because they asked about it.”

At this moment, he felt somewhat afraid to speak. If he did not explain well, he would be scolded again.

Moreover, his Father was really fierce, so he immediately felt regretful after speaking.

“They asked, and you just revealed our secret? Don’t you know that Sweet Grain is our Tribe’s secret!?” Shan angrily questioned.

“Of course I know, but this is also the Flame Dragon Tribe’s secret. They shared their secret with us for trade, so I had to share ours.” Kai said.

He thought this was quite fair. If the other party revealed their secret, why should he not reciprocate? Besides, the other party trusted him greatly, giving him a ceramic bowl without requiring anything in return. This was a significant display of trust.

Typically, people would never unconditionally give away their Tribe’s valuable items to others. Who knows if the other party would return? If they gave it away and it did not get returned, what then?

Therefore, this gesture from the Flame Dragon Tribe made him feel highly respected, so he thought there was nothing wrong with revealing the Giant Bear Tribe’s secret.

Moreover, Sweet Grain was just a food source of the Tribe. Though a secret, its disclosure would not cause any significant issues for the entire Tribe.

Negative consequences like annihilation or invasion by others were impossible, so revealing it was not a big deal.

“Did they say where this thing came from? How was it made?” Shan continued asking.

He was still very curious about how this object came to be. It looked like stone but was not stone. He felt that this object was definitely not naturally formed but must have been man-made, and it appeared quite extraordinary.

“I asked their Chieftain, but he didn’t want to tell us.” Kai shook his head.

His thoughts aligned with his Father’s; he was also curious about how this object was created.

He was eager to understand what exactly this thing was. Was it stone or something else? Why was it so good?

“It seems they came prepared. Besides wanting to trade for Sweet Grain and dried meat, did they want to trade for anything else?” Shan asked.

He needed to first understand the other party’s demands, then see if he could accept them before proceeding with the trade.

After all, this object was indeed impressive. If it only required trading some food, there would not be any loss.

However, he wanted to see more about this object, as Sweet Grain was a generational secret of the Giant Bear Tribe and could not be casually traded with others.

Sweet Grain tasted sweet with abundant juice, a rare delicacy. To rashly give it to people from other Tribes, the offer needed to be worthwhile.

“Nothing else. They only have these two requirements: first, they want the crop seeds, and second, they want dried meat,” Kai said.

“Crop seeds? What are crops?” Shan asked, puzzled.

“Their Chieftain said crops are things like Sweet Grain, things that are planted in the soil and can be eaten,” Kai explained.

Shan blinked his red eyes and asked, “Besides this object, are there others?”

He kept moving the ceramic bowl in his hand, wondering if the Flame Dragon Tribe had other ceramics.

He always believed that the other Tribe definitely had more than just this one item; there must be others.

“Yes, there are many more. I saw them all displayed on wooden shelves, about seven or eight of them.” Kai described.

The arrangement in Yan Jiao’s room was still vivid in his mind, including those ceramic vases, bowls, and plates—he had seen them all. And there were quite a few of them. Just the large ceramic vases alone appeared to number two or three.

As for the smaller ceramic bowls, many were also displayed. The ceramic plates were similar, though they were covered by those ceramic bowls.

No, those ceramic bowls looked quite different from the one in their hands right now. They were obviously smaller in size. Their appearance was also quite different, seemingly belonging to another type of ceramic, though he was not sure what kind.

“Let me think about it first,” Shan said seriously.
