I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 432, Could It Be Fear of Heights?

The expressions of Ai’er and the others were… mostly neutral. After all, they could fly on their own. However, they were still shocked. After all, this hot air balloon was something they were seeing for the first time. They never imagined that a hot air balloon made of Animal Hide could fly. Moreover, it flew using flames, which was inconceivable to them moments ago.

“I never thought this thing could fly without wings,” Ai’er exclaimed in surprise.

The butterfly girl flew out of the hot air balloon, planning to observe this hot air balloon at every angle.

*Flap! Flap!* Ai’er flapped her beautiful purple wings and flew out, beginning to observe the hot air balloon. From flying to the top, down to the bottom of the basket, she kept looking attentively, sometimes flying near the flames to look.

Just like a curious baby, she examined the hot air balloon up and down, occasionally poking the large balloon with her finger.

She found that the large balloon was quite hard; at first, she discovered she could not even make it move, and later when she poked harder, it only dented in a tiny bit.

“Amazing. Truly amazing…” Ai’er kept muttering.

Ai’er returned to the hot air balloon with curiosity, her face full of questions.

“How was it? Did you see anything different?” Cheng Shi asked. Originally, he also wanted to fly out and take a look, but thinking that he must first protect the Shaman’s safety, he restrained his curiosity.

“Go fly out and take a look for yourself, I’m here. I can protect the Shaman.” Ai’er pushed him. Rather than explaining herself at length, it was better for him to go see for himself.

Yan Hua looked up at the large fire basin and asked in confusion. “Shaman, why can it fly up using flames?”

She had been puzzled about this for a long time. Even when they were below, before taking off, while they were still lighting the fire, she wanted to ask.

But at that time, she did not know what they were doing, until the balloon soared into the air that she suddenly understood.

“Yes, yes, Shaman, won’t these flames set the hot air balloon on fire?” Yu Ying asked worriedly. The source of her curiosity was quite different from the others; she was curious about whether this hot air balloon was safe or not.

Unlike Yan Hua, she simply did not have the time to worry about whether the hot air balloon was safe or not – was having too much fun.

“It probably won’t, right? These flames are quite far from the hot air balloon.” Sha Lan speculated.

Sha Lan was also curious about this point, but she knew the hot air balloon’s ability to fly must be inseparable from those burning flames.

“It is called thermal expansion. We are using heat emitted by the flames to make the hot air balloon fly.” Su Bai explained.

Actually, the flight of a hot air balloon was based on the principle of density, and that same volume of hot air is far lighter than cold air, thus generating an upwards force, which allows the balloon to rise even with load.

Explaining this principle to the girls now, was something they still would not understand. If it were explained to Co Co, things might be different. She would definitely understand more quickly, and at the same time, she wants to personally conduct more experiments related to such phenomena.

“I don’t understand,” Yan Hua said without hesitation. This was indeed a bit difficult for her.

She only knew how to wield weapons and fight, as for these concepts of hot air and cold air, she simply could not understand.

“I think I know. It should be that when the flames burn, they heat the air, and then the hot air in the balloon flies up. Shaman, is that right?” Sha Lan tentatively asked.

Sha Lan had come to this conclusion after some thought. She just did not know if she was correct.

“Completely right. That’s roughly how it is.” Su Bai nodded with satisfaction, having somewhat underestimated Sha Lan.

“Shaman, will the flames really not burn the hot air balloon?” Yu Ying was still very worried.

“Don’t worry, the flames are still some distance from the hot air balloon, and the flames aren’t that large. It won’t set the hot air balloon on fire; we will be safe.” Su Bai placed his hand on her hand.

He knew that she was very nervous, with her pink fox tail unconsciously drooping down.

Yu Ying’s small hand was suddenly covered by a large hand, and her heart immediately began to accelerate.

Her originally worried heart also began to gradually get comforted, and she did not seem to be as afraid as before. She took a deep breath and nodded firmly. “En, I believe in the Shaman.”

The sense of security she was feeling was unprecedented, but at the same time, she was also a bit shy.

Her little face immediately turned red, and she dared not to look up at Su Bai anymore. She did not have the heart to look at the beautiful scenery below the hot air balloon either; her attention was all on that large hand.

Her pink fox tail, which had been drooping, slowly began to stand up, then began to unconsciously wag. Overall, she looked like she was in a good mood now.

Sha Lan saw this scene and suddenly felt strange in her heart. She also wanted to be treated like this. But, she suddenly shook her head frantically, feeling that this thought was crossing a line.

[How can I be allowed to have such thoughts? How bold of me. The other person is the Shaman! Why would I have such thoughts!?]

Yan Hua, seeing Sha Lan’s behaviour, thought it strange and she puzzledly asked. “Ah’Lan, are you alright? Are you feeling unwell?”

Yan Hua did not know what happened to Sha Lan, if she did something, but she only knew that her face had suddenly turned red.

“What’s wrong with Ah’Lan? Is it uncomfortable for you to be up so high?” Su Bai also turned his head to inquire.

After all, the hot air balloon was soaring. He did not know if the girl was not used to flying so high, or if she had acrophobia or something.

Sha Lan immediately stood straight, collected her emotions, and shook her head. “No, no. I’m fine, Shaman.”

She was constantly reproaching herself in her heart, [Argh. Why did I suddenly have so many irrelevant thoughts?]

“That’s good, if there’s anything wrong, be sure to tell me.” Su Bai said seriously.

If anyone has acrophobia, then he would need to promptly take them down.

Although acrophobia was not a serious illness, the hot air balloon would continuously fly higher. If someone became afraid in mid-air, and panicked, that would be horrendous.

“I’m sorry to have worried you, Shaman.” Sha Lan immediately lowered her head.

“It’s fine, all of you remember to tell me if you feel unwell.” Su Bai scanned around.

“Yes.” everyone said in unison.
