I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 434, Life and Death Should Be in Our Own Hands

The hot air balloon had gradually risen to a very high altitude, and the scenery below grew increasingly smaller.

Originally, they could still see an outline of things, but now they could only vaguely make out shapes.

“I never imagined this hot air balloon could fly up so high!” Yan Hua exclaimed in shock.

She had originally thought they would reach about the same height as Cheng Shi and the others flew, but she had not expected they could go this high.

This height was probably beyond what even Cheng Shi and the others had reached, judging by their expressions.

Cheng Shi’s black pupils blinked continuously. It was not that he had not seen such beautiful scenery before, but he was amazed that this object could fly up to such an altitude.

Something without wings and without life could actually fly this high using only flames. It was truly incredible.

Cheng Shi kept moving around inside the basket, then flapped his wings and flew out of the hot air balloon, beginning to fly alongside it.

Ai’er did the same, also flying out of the hot air balloon to experience this wonderful height.

“Shaman, is it dangerous to fly up this high?” Sha Lan asked worriedly, her blue eyes somewhat afraid to look directly down.

Yu Ying was the same, no longer looking down, turning her back to the edge of the basket and leaning against it.

“Don’t worry, this altitude is just about right. We don’t need to go any higher. Just maintaining this height is fine.” Su Bai reassured them.

This altitude was adequate. This was technically still lower than the height hot air balloons would reach back on Earth.

After all, this hot air balloon was made in the Primitive Era, and various conditions were certainly not as good as those hot air balloons on Earth. So, it was not advisable to fly too high, in case something unexpected happened, which would be terrible. Falling from this height would certainly mean death.

“Shaman, why does the fire need to burn more intensely?” Sha Lan suddenly asked, noticing that wood was constantly being added to the fire basin.

“This is how we fly higher. If you want to fly high, you need to continuously add wood to make the flames burn more vigorously.” Su Bai explained.

“So, if we want the hot air balloon to start descending, we just need to let the flame get smaller?” Sha Lan guessed.

“Yes, gradually reducing the flame will allow the hot air balloon to begin descending,” Su Bai nodded.

Actually, controlling a hot air balloon was not difficult; it just required practice in managing the flame.

Of course, a sense of direction was also essential, otherwise one would be easy to get lost, especially at high altitudes where the familiar terrain looked very different when back on land.

“I see,” Sha Lan nodded thoughtfully.

Su Bai took out a telescope from his bag and began observing the scenery on the ground.

Today, besides testing the hot air balloon’s flight, they also wanted to examine the environment around the Tribe.

He closed one eye while using the telescope to look at everything below the hot air balloon, continuously turning the telescope to view the surroundings.

Originally, he wanted to see just how wide that big river was, but even with the telescope, he could not see its other edge.

It was clear that the river was truly wide to the extreme. He was already thinking of ways to explore the river.

Such a large river must be properly explored, and whether it led to the sea was still unknown.

If the river ultimately flowed to the sea, then the Tribe’s salt problem would be solved. After all, the salt supply from the Spotted Deer Tribe was decreasing, and sooner or later, there would be no salt being supplied by them.

Before that happens, the Flame Dragon Tribe must find either the sea or a salt mine to produce salt.

[Our life and death should be in our own hands.]

“It really is vast…” Su Bai murmured.

He used the telescope to look at the environment below and found that the land also stretched beyond sight.

All he could see was a green expanse and brown patches. The green represented forests and trees, while the brown areas were probably soil and hillsides.

“Shaman, should we go take a look at the Hunting Ground?” Sha Lan suddenly suggested.

Sha Lan thought that since they had already left the Tribe in the hot air balloon and flown up so high, why not go over there and take a look?

Moreover, using the hot air balloon might save some time, though she was not sure exactly how much.

Su Bai shook his head and said, “We haven’t prepared anything now. We don’t have any food with us, and we don’t know how long it would take to reach the Hunting Ground, so let’s prepare properly and go next time.”

He did not want to do anything without preparation. Everything required planning, otherwise problems might arise.

Food was the most important consideration. Walking to the Hunting Ground took three days.

By hot air balloon, it would probably take more than a day, and since they had not prepared any food, they could not rashly proceed.

Furthermore, the hot air balloon had never been to the Hunting Ground before. They should first test-fly it before advancing further.

After all, currently, no one knew how long the hot air balloon could fly continuously, and the duration of the flight determined potential safety risks.

Now they were only flying in the sky for a short time and had not experienced long-duration flight, they did not know if other dangers existed.

He planned to have people of the Tribe ride the hot air balloon for more experiments after landing, such as flying a little higher, a little farther, or even flying to the Hunting Ground to take a look.

If they could successfully fly to the Hunting Ground, they could also bring back the Hunting Team members.

This way, they would not only succeed in the experiment but also reduce the return time for the Hunting Team. Why not do something that achieves two goals at once?

“Shaman, when it’s time for the next experiment, can I come up too?” Yan Hua asked expectantly.

Yan Hua found a new love, the hot air balloon. She wanted to stay on it all the time. She never imagined that being on a hot air balloon would be so much fun.

“You’d better not go up for now, because you don’t have wings. If something goes wrong with the hot air balloon, you won’t be able to handle it.” Su Bai shook his head.

He did not want her to take on such risks. If the hot air balloon encountered problems in the sky, wouldn’t she just fall helplessly from the sky?

“Alright, I understand,” Yan Hua pouted, somewhat disappointed.

She had been very excited, expecting she could participate in the next experiment, but the result was disappointing.

However, she understood the reasoning. After all, the hot air balloon was flying at such a high altitude, and if something really went wrong, she truly would not be able to respond.

“Once all tests are successful, you can ride as many times as you want. There’s no rush.” Su Bai consoled her.

“Great!” Yan Hua’s face lit up with a smile again. She was simple like that. Anything she felt unhappy about would tend to quickly disappear, replaced by joy and laughter.
