I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 405, Sheep milk

Translator: Silavin

Primitive Tribes lacked staple food; every day, it was eating meat, eating meat, and eating more meat.

Not only does eating too much meat become tiresome, but it also does not provide much other nutrients. For that, people need to have other varieties of food like vegetables and carbohydrates.

Rice, bread, and such are the main sources of carbohydrates, especially for Warriors who need even more fuel for their body.

Although there was Wolf Tail Grass Noodle now, Wolf Tail Grass still was not as good as Wheat. It could at most be considered coarse grain.

“Something we eat every day? Can it replace meat?” Yu Ying asked in surprise.

“This doesn’t replace meat, but is eaten together with meat. It’s like meat is supplementary, while Wheat is the main thing we consume.” Su Bai explained.

“Hmm…” Yu Ying nodded thoughtfully, though in reality she did not quite understand.

Su Bai walked over to check on the sweet potatoes. He had used Growth Acceleration Skill on them these past few days.

He found that the sweet potatoes had also grown significantly, not only sprouting but also growing much taller, about fifteen centimetres.

“It seems the sweet potatoes will soon be ready for harvest too.” Su Bai nodded with satisfaction. At this rate, many things could begin to be arranged.

With sweet potatoes, Wheat, and tomatoes, the Tribe could begin to develop agriculture.

Su Bai planned to vigorously develop the agricultural sector after the snow season passed.

A Tribe’s development could not be separated from this – agriculture would allow the entire Tribe to become self-sufficient.

They would not need to nervously go hunting in the Hunting Ground every day, which not only wasted time but also put the hunters in danger.

But if agriculture was greatly developed, the benefits it would bring to the Tribe would be substantial.

He planned to save some seeds from the tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and Wheat this time. Then, he would experiment with these crops again, after all, these crops had all been treated with Growth Acceleration Skill.

No one knew how their seeds would perform when planted again. If they could grow as quickly as their parent plants, that would be ideal.

“Yay! Then, we can eat lots of delicious food!” Yu Ying happily wagged her fox tail.

“Let’s go see the lambs in the sheep pen, and those calves too.” Su Bai led the way out of the greenhouse.

*Step step step* They held umbrellas as they moved to the sheep pen, which was only a minute or two away from the greenhouse.

*Creak!*

Yu Ying was the first to open the sheep pen door and went inside to drive the sheep to one side, leaving an open space.

Su Bai stepped inside and immediately smelled the strong odour of sheep droppings; the smell was simply overwhelming.

He instinctively covered his nose and mouth, not yet accustomed to it, and asked, “Hasn’t anyone been assigned to regularly clean this place?”

He found many sheep droppings inside, and the hay was scattered messily—it was simply disastrous.

“Someone comes to clean every two days.” Yu Ying said.

“From now on, have someone clean it each day. Much sure it’s cleaner. Otherwise, it’s unhygienic for the sheep to live in. Right now, the odour here is too strong.” Su Bai instructed.

“Yes, I understand,” Yu Ying immediately responded.

“Also, in the future, hay or fresh grass should be placed in fixed locations.” Su Bai scanned the surroundings and continued, “Have Shan Qiu make some feed troughs. Just put their food in the feed troughs.”

Otherwise, the feed would be placed on the ground. After the sheep trampled it with their dirty hooves, they would still eat it. This was not only unhygienic but could also potentially cause illness.

He did not want the livestock to all get sick and die before animal husbandry had even begun, as that would be counterproductive, especially considering they were brought back from the far away Hunting Ground.

“Shaman, what is a feed trough?” Yu Ying asked, puzzled.

“It’s similar to a basin. In other words, just in a really long bowl. Just put the feed in it. Later I’ll give you the design, and you can take it to Shan Qiu.” Su Bai said.

“Okay.” Yu Ying nodded.

Su Bai continued scanning the surroundings and found that aside from the two issues he had just seen, everything else seemed fine.

He crouched down to look at the newborn lambs, so small and adorable, making one want to pet them.

“So cute!” Co Co was also captivated by these adorable creatures.

“Xiao Yu, Co Co, would you like to drink some sheep milk?” Su Bai asked as he stood up.

He saw that many of the ewes (female sheep) had plenty of milk, and the lambs could not drink it all. If some was not milked out, the ewes would be uncomfortable.

Today, with these new lambs plus the ones born previously, there were thirteen lambs in total. There were six ewes with milk, and some of the older lambs had already started eating grass instead of drinking milk.

“Drink sheep milk?” Yu Ying was stunned for a moment, then asked, “Shaman, can we drink it?”

“I’ve never had sheep milk,” Co Co shook her head.

Su Bai scanned the sheep pen and smiled, “Xiao Yu, bring me a clean bowl.”

He wanted to personally milk some sheep milk. This was a delicacy that should not be wasted, and could become one of the Tribe’s signature foods in the future.

“Okay,” Yu Ying immediately nodded and quickly ran off.

Co Co looked puzzled and asked, “Shaman, why do we need a bowl? Couldn’t we just directly…”

The golden-haired girl could not even finish her sentence, thinking that they should do it just like the lambs. She wondered why they needed a bowel when they could direct suck it out.

“You’ll know when it’s brought over. If you try to drink like the lambs, you’ll get kicked by the ewe.” Su Bai said with a smile.

Seeing her expression, he knew what she was thinking, but that approach would not work.

“Alright,” Co Co nodded with partial understanding, her golden eyes immediately returning to the lambs.

*Step step step* Yu Ying set her umbrella aside and brought out a clean large wooden bowl, saying, “Shaman, I’ve washed it clean.”

“Good,” Su Bai took the wooden bowl and walked to a ewe, first giving her some hay to eat.

Then, he reached out to soothe her, and after the ewe calmed down, he placed the wooden bowl under the ewe’s belly.

Since he had Tamed them, the ewe was quite docile, showing no signs of agitation.

Su Bai first washed his hands, then crouched beside the ewe and began milking.

Having seen similar shows and books back on Earth, he knew the proper technique and needed pressure to apply.

Su Bai used his thumb and the tiger’s mouth of his palm (the v from the thumb to index) to hold the ewe’s udder and lift it up, allowing the milk to flow into the teats. Then, he pressed his thumb firmly against the tiger’s mouth to prevent the milk from flowing back during milking.

Then he used his four fingers to squeeze repeatedly, causing the sheep milk to flow out continuously.

Repeating this process…

*Splash splash…*

Under Su Bai’s delicate hands, the sheep milk shot out like a water gun, gradually filling the wooden bowl.
