Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1748: Chapter 1650: A Blessing in Disguise

”What’s the matter, is this question difficult to answer?”

Seeing that Yang Suxin was still hesitating to agree, Huo Sining was quite puzzled. She was just trying to give Yang Suxin an out. Why was this girl so clueless? With such an obvious hint, how could she not get it?

Yang Suxin was about to refuse when Xie Yuxing spoke up directly, ”What’s so hard to answer? I’ll make the decision for her. If it’s tough, it’s tough, she can treat it as atonement for her moment of confusion. As for salary, don’t even bring it up. After what she did, what right does she have to ask for a salary?”

After saying this, Xie Yuxing didn’t forget to give Yang Suxin a harsh glare, ”What are you standing there staring at me for? If you’re not willing, then pack up and leave. I can’t have people with divided loyalties here!”

Although Xie Yuxing’s words were harsh, Yang Suxin was so overjoyed that she cried. She knew that Xie Yuxing had a sharp tongue but a kind heart. By agreeing to Huo Sining’s request on her behalf, Xie Yuxing had already forgiven her.

”I’m willing, I’m willing, Miss Huo, don’t worry, I won’t make the same mistake again. In the future, just let me know if you need anything!”

Yang Suxin wiped her tears, but a light, relaxed smile appeared on her face.

Huo Sining chuckled, then left without lingering, walking out of Xie Yuxing’s room.

Returning to her room, she refreshed her Weibo and found a significant reversal in the incident. Su Lingxue and Huang Jingwen, who were accused of hiding drugs, had been released. The evidence found by the police turned out to be milk powder, not drugs.

The news triggered a new wave online. A group of netizens, upon learning of the police’s mistake, began cursing angrily. Meanwhile, a cluster of Su Lingxue’s fans flocked to her Weibo, leaving messages that comforted her and sought justice on her behalf.

Suddenly, Su Lingxue’s popularity skyrocketed due to the incident, making her seem poised to surpass other top artists.

Huo Sining couldn’t help but laugh coldly to herself. Others might not know the truth, but she was well aware. Indeed, Su Lingxue and Huang Jingwen hadn’t hidden any drugs, but their act of purchasing large quantities of white powder was indisputable. They couldn’t deny this and were far from innocent.

However, since the situation had already taken a turn, the best moment to counterattack had passed. Huo Sining decided not to dwell on it any longer, planning instead to let Gu Xu handle the rest.

This bungled incident continued to stir, with online discussions persisting for several days. Some sympathized with Su Lingxue, while others doubted her; however, most believed she hadn’t been involved with using or selling drugs. Su Lingxue herself played on emotions, posting on Weibo to garner sympathy, leading to a rise in her popularity and fan base, with even a few endorsement offers coming her way.

Su Lingxue greatly benefited from the situation. Upon returning to the crew, she held her head high, displaying an air of arrogance as if she had become a major star. She was constantly nitpicking when interacting with Zheng Lixiang, finding fault with everything, even openly demanding additional scenes and improvising lines, causing various disturbances.

Watching this, Xie Yuxing rolled her eyes repeatedly, and even Yang Suxin was furiously indignant.

As the saying goes, when a scoundrel gets a taste of success, this is precisely it.

Huo Sining gave a cold smile inwardly, curious to see how long Su Lingxue would manage to maintain her airs.

Yang Suxin’s brother had accrued massive gambling debts, but after Gu Xu intervened, it fizzled out. During this process, Gu Xu must have employed some measures, intimidating Yang Suxin’s parents into no longer bothering her. As a result, Yang Suxin found herself much relieved and her mood increasingly cheerful.

Xie Yuxing had hoped Huo Sining would expose Su Lingxue and Huang Jingwen’s previous plot to frame her, but Huo Sining rejected the suggestion.

”Let’s wait a bit longer. The timing isn’t right yet. Previously, the film was only halfway done. Replacing Su Lingxue’s scenes wouldn’t have been a problem. But now, with the film nearing completion, if a scandal breaks out now, Director Zheng’s film could be truly ruined. This is, after all, everyone’s hard work, so it’s better to keep things calm for now.”

Hearing Huo Sining’s reasoning, Xie Yuxing couldn’t argue further.

Huo Sining’s perspective hadn’t occurred to her, but she couldn’t deny its sense.

In the case of a typical scandal, it might even serve as marketing for the movie, potentially boosting its popularity;

But if an actor becomes directly involved in crime, that’s another matter altogether, especially if it involves drugs—it could lead to a ban from the Ministry of Culture. At that point, the film would require reshooting, with all of Su Lingxue’s scenes needing to be removed, which would be truly problematic.

Zheng Lixiang had devoted a great deal of effort and energy into ”The Legend of the Mermaid” and naturally held high expectations for it. So, before its release, it was wise to maintain some peace.

It’s not that retribution won’t come, it’s just not the right time yet. The entertainment industry is rife with delayed retribution, so Huo Sining wasn’t in a rush.

Apparently, Huan Rui had conducted some investigation into the matter behind closed doors but failed to discover how the items had gotten from Huo Sining’s room to Su Lingxue’s.

While everyone understood that Huo Sining had likely intervened upon discovering the plot, no one dared point the finger at her.

First of all, the fault lay with Su Lingxue and Huang Jingwen to begin with, and Huo Sining was merely defending herself. In any narrative, Huo Sining stood on the side of justice, a truth Huan Rui implicitly grasped;

Secondly, if Su Lingxue had succeeded in her scheme against Huo Sining, things might have gone differently. But since her plot failed and was uncovered, Huo Sining definitely held leverage over her. At such a juncture, trying to retaliate would be sheer folly, as she would surely meet swift retribution.

With Huo Sining’s status, suppressing Su Lingxue would be a simple task. Not pursuing the matter didn’t mean distortions of truth would go unanswered. If cornered, it would not only spell trouble for Su Lingxue but also bring repercussions upon Huan Rui itself.

The folks at Huan Rui, realizing their shortfall on this issue after some discussion, decided to invite Huo Sining to a meal to apologize and seek forgiveness.

On the day the crew was filming, Xu Shaoqing, Huan Rui’s representative, arrived at Meishan Filming Base to find the crew of ”The Legend of the Mermaid.”

In recent days, Su Lingxue had been riding high on her success, flaunting her power in the crew. Yet, she hadn’t entirely forgotten the humiliation of being arrested by the police, hounded by reporters, and cursed by a mob of netizens.
