Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1729: Chapter 1632: Pushing the Limits

Not long after, Su Lingxue figured out why Zheng Lixiang was so excited, because the crew found the prop eavesdropping device that Huo Sining had slipped into her jacket pocket.

It wasn’t until then that Su Lingxue realized that during the filming, Huo Sining had quietly managed to perform this move while she was completely kept in the dark.

Not only did her plan to steal the spotlight fail, but she got played instead. Su Lingxue didn’t reflect on her own shortcomings at all; instead, she felt she had been fooled and was instantly furious.

At this moment, her resentment and jealousy towards Huo Sining reached its peak.

Huo Sining wasn’t unaware of Su Lingxue’s itchy hatred towards her, but she didn’t believe Su Lingxue could do anything to her. Even Huan Rui didn’t dare confront her head-on, so even if Su Lingxue borrowed a few ounces of courage, she couldn’t do anything to Huo Sining.

”Brother Shangguan, I have a dinner party tonight, and I might be back very late. Can you accompany me?”

In front of everyone, Su Lingxue looked at Shangguan Zhuo shyly, even affectionately entwining her arms with his, clearly trying to show the crew that they were close.

But Shangguan Zhuo had no intention of cooperating at all. To avoid breaking the company agreement, he had already made the biggest concession by supporting the CP he had with Su Lingxue in front of the reporters. Now, Su Lingxue was pushing her luck, and Shangguan Zhuo certainly couldn’t continue to cooperate with her act.

”Sorry, go by yourself. I’m not interested in your dinner party!”

Shangguan Zhuo’s face turned gloomy and he said impatiently while furrowing his brows.

Hearing this, Su Lingxue suddenly felt choked. She had been humiliated by Huo Sining and wanted some comfort from Shangguan Zhuo, but unexpectedly, in front of everyone, Shangguan Zhuo gave her no face at all, openly showing his displeasure.

The laughter from others nearby could be heard, and Su Lingxue knew they were all waiting to see her make a fool of herself. Especially, Huo Sining’s fleeting glance made Su Lingxue feel even more embarrassed. She tightened her grip on Shangguan Zhuo’s arm:

”Brother Shangguan, President Liu will also attend this dinner. He specifically mentioned wanting to see both of us, and President Wen also instructed you to accompany me. You can’t possibly disregard President Wen, can you?”

Su Lingxue raised her head and slightly bit her lip, her eyes moist as she looked at Shangguan Zhuo, her cheeks showing a hidden grievance and disappointment, as delicate as a small white flower.

Her pitiful appearance captivated many men nearby, who were eager to rush over and protect her from any grievance.

That’s the advantage of being a damsel in distress; people are always inclined to sympathize with the weak. Especially men, who are more likely to soften towards a delicate woman.

Unfortunately, Su Lingxue miscalculated, Shangguan Zhuo isn’t one to pity beauty. Seeing Su Lingxue’s pretentious posture, his eyes were filled with annoyance and anger, and with a slight exertion, he freed himself from Su Lingxue’s grasp, his lips pressing into a straight line:

”Sorry, I don’t know any President Liu. As for what you said about Wen Te’s instructions, that’s strange, why am I unaware? Since you say Wen Te said it, then let him call me personally.”

With a matter-of-fact expression, Shangguan Zhuo’s words made Su Lingxue’s face stiffen instantly.

This dinner party was one she had arranged behind the company’s back, so it couldn’t be known by Wen Te. Her use of Wen Te’s name was purely to make Shangguan Zhuo cooperate with her performance.

But Su Lingxue didn’t expect Shangguan Zhuo to be so impervious, clearly showing he wasn’t buying her act.

Su Lingxue immediately felt a bit embarrassed.

”Pfft—”

Huo Sining couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

Hearing the soft laugh, everyone nearby turned to look at Huo Sining, and Su Lingxue glared at Huo Sining.

But Huo Sining shrugged her shoulders, laughing and waving her hand: ”Sorry, I really couldn’t hold it in.”

Shangguan Zhuo’s gaze swept over to Huo Sining, and she apologetically waved at him, although her trembling shoulders still betrayed her emotions.

No wonder Huo Sining couldn’t hold back. She had only learned a couple of days earlier during a casual chat with Zheng Lixiang how unfortunate Shangguan Zhuo was.

As a mega-star, Shangguan Zhuo holds an unparalleled position in the country’s entertainment industry.

Such a king should by no means take on a film by someone as a newcomer director like Zheng Lixiang.

But during the chat with Zheng Lixiang, Huo Sining learned that Shangguan Zhuo is Zheng Lixiang’s cousin, her aunt’s son.

When preparing to shoot such a commercial movie, Zheng Lixiang immediately reached out to her aunt, adopting an indirect approach, hoping she could persuade her cousin to help by playing the male lead in her film.

Shangguan Zhuo couldn’t resist his mother’s nagging, so he reluctantly agreed to Zheng Lixiang’s request.

Consequently, when Huan Rui learned about this film and clarified the investment situation, it proposed a package deal.

Shangguan Zhuo could sign with ”The Legend of the Mermaid” crew, but he had to bring Su Lingxue along, and the crew had to provide her with no less than a supporting role comparable to the female lead’s role.

At that time, Zheng Lixiang didn’t know Huo Sining would agree to star in her film. Although she wasn’t fond of Su Lingxue, Su Lingxue was already an old hand in the entertainment industry with some influence. Such a package strategy was undoubtedly beneficial and harmless, so she agreed without hesitation.

But after Su Lingxue’s audition, Zheng Lixiang immediately denied the possibility of Su Lingxue playing the female lead.

While this girl is pretty, her acting skills haven’t improved much over the years of struggling in the entertainment industry. Zheng Lixiang certainly couldn’t allow such a crucial leading role to fall into the hands of a mere pretty face.

So Zheng Lixiang unhesitatingly switched Su Lingxue to a supporting role and prepared to find another more appropriate female lead.

Zheng Lixiang told Huo Sining about the initial occurrences of the film, and the sympathetic tone in her voice, when conjecturing why Huan Rui would bind Shangguan Zhuo and Su Lingxue together, was obvious.

It turned out that several years ago, when Su Lingxue had just signed with Huan Rui, she had played a supporting role in the film ”The Greatest Countryman.”

This movie was directed by Zheng Ke, who was an old friend of Shangguan Zhuo’s. It happened that Shangguan Zhuo was then in the Imperial Capital, so Zheng Ke warmly invited him to participate in the opening banquet.

Shangguan Zhuo earnestly accepted without decline.

But unexpectedly, halfway through the banquet, an incident occurred.
