My Alleged Husband

Chapter 450: Chapter 429 Inquiry_1

”You make a good point. After all, this matter is related to the reputation of our entire family and to the doubts within Grandpa’s heart. We can’t handle this matter carelessly and rush to a conclusion. If we make a hasty decision and then tell Grandpa, he will definitely feel distressed, as that person is one of his most cherished.”

”That’s exactly why we must think carefully before acting and hesitate to make decisions. However, it’s this caution that might give him the sense of recklessness, making us feel like everyone is somewhat afraid of him. Thus, he acts boldly and recklessly, causing us constant worry. But what can we do to stop him from acting so selfishly as he used to?”

”Now, don’t worry about this any longer. I will undertake a thorough investigation into this matter. I won’t stop until everything is clear, and I won’t let our son bear the brunt of this injustice for nothing. I know our son would never lie; he’s not capable of such deception or courage. No matter how disobedient he can be at times, he still holds us, his parents, in high esteem. He certainly cares about the family’s reputation. I know that today, after our forceful questioning, he must feel unfairly treated, yet he doesn’t dare to speak up. I’m aware that he feels wronged, but this matter concerns all of us, and we can’t let it be suppressed and ignored. If we do, who knows what might happen in the future? I don’t want our family to live in fear every day. Wife, I know you deeply love our son, but sometimes you must realize that indulging him too much is not affection but spoilage. That would only make him feel entitled to our love without appreciating what we do for him. It could also lead to a lack of respect for his elders. I believe you wouldn’t want our son to turn into someone we both don’t wish to see, right? In fact, we both want the same things for our child, but our different approaches could result in varied outcomes, leading to the child feeling conflicted between what mom and dad say. Sometimes it’s necessary to discipline him properly; if you’re too lenient, he’ll think we don’t love him, but if you’re too strict, he might feel oppressed. Balancing these feelings is the most challenging part of parenting, but that’s why we need to discipline him correctly, to prevent anything undesirable from happening to our child. Today, I don’t want to think about whose fault it is, and I don’t want to know who encouraged our son to do what he did. But I believe the person behind this will eventually slip up!”

Ran Zhihan knew what her husband was thinking. She also knew this matter was causing him some difficulty, likely involving his own mother, but they had no evidence. They could only wait for the day the surveillance footage was reviewed to uncover the truth. Deep down she knew that ever since her son mentioned that ”strange grandma,” her Grandpa had had his doubts. Apart from him, no one else would do such a thing, yet her Grandpa chose to remain silent because he wasn’t sure if it was indeed his doing. Grandpa was also afraid of wrongly accusing someone and ruining the slowly mending relationship that might snap at any moment, a delicate situation indeed.

”Husband, things are already so complicated, let’s not think about it anymore. We should focus on how to explain this matter to Grandpa. I believe he already has many plans in mind, and he’s thinking the same things as us but has chosen not to speak them out of fear and to preserve the fragile peace. I know you say I spoil our son too much, but have you considered that sometimes your harshness might make him feel unloved and lead to defiance? That would be a loss greater than what we seek to gain.”

”Enough, let’s not talk about this anymore. We’ll discuss it later. You should no longer get involved; I will find a way to fully investigate this. Let’s contemplate how we should explain this to Grandpa. If it turns out he’s the one responsible, how will his heart bear such a blow once again?”

The next day, as soon as Ran Zhihan got up, Old Master Zhang asked, ”Zhihan, about last night’s incident, how is the investigation with your husband going? Have you figured out who did it? If it’s that person, don’t hide anything from me. Just tell me the truth about what happened. I don’t want to live my old age in the dark, being deceived by you all. That would make me feel very tired. If there’s anything you need, be sure to tell me.”

”Grandpa, you’re overthinking it. How could we have gotten to the bottom of this so quickly? Sorting this out takes time. Just give us a little more time to thoroughly investigate. We can’t wrongly accuse someone—it’s unfair to anyone and can damage our harmonious relationship, right? We must proceed with utmost caution!”

”Right, right, you’re correct. It’s me being too anxious just like you, rushing for answers. You two go ahead and continue your investigation. I won’t ask any more questions, but when you find out, you must tell me the truth without hiding anything. Otherwise, I will be upset!”
