My Alleged Husband

Chapter 422: Chapter 401: Astonishing Growth (Part 1)_1

Old Master Zhang knew that the words he said had helped Zhang Ni understand many truths. He’d always thought of himself as a very calculating person, but he never expected that after a lifetime of scheming, his determination would still fall short of his son’s. His son, resolute to a matchless degree, able even to abandon his own child, his own grandson. In truth, Old Master Zhang really couldn’t understand; he truly didn’t know why he chose to bring his son into this world in the first place, only to have his son repay him in this manner, pushing him step by step to his current predicament. He felt no joy in his heart, this was the first time he’d wished that regret medicine really existed in the world—he deeply regretted it now. If it wasn’t to ensure his son could live well by his side, if not for his son, his wife, how could he possibly choose to give birth to his son, yet exchanged his life for his son’s safety? But in the end, his son repeatedly tested his limits. How was he to face his wife beneath the Nine Springs?

Zhang Ni, watching Old Master Zhang on the verge of tears, said to him, ”Great-grandfather, don’t be sad. No matter what happens, I’m here with you. I will take good care of you. From now on, I will treat making you happy as my daily joy. I will stay by your side every day; I will never let anyone bully you again. You must believe me, I will be an upright and honorable man. I want all those who look down on me, who abandoned me, to know what kind of person I finally became. I want them to realize what a big mistake it was to abandon me...”

Zhang Yichen had said the same thing to Old Master Zhang when he was a boy. At that moment, he had been abandoned by his father, and now his son was saying these words because his grandparents had abandoned him. Every time these words were spoken, they originated from being forsaken by loved ones. Why did those people have to abandon him, the most important people? Did he and his wife, his father, and his son really mean so little in their eyes? Time and again the hurt had dealt the greatest blows to his soul; wounds that could never heal, with no one considering how he was to clean up the mess.

”Silly child, you don’t need to be particularly capable; you just need to know that wherever you are, never abandon yourself, the people who care about you, and those who love you. Because once a mistake is made, there will truly be no more chances to undo it; there is no regret medicine in the world. Once you’ve done it, all you can do is bear the painful consequences. There are many roads in life to take, many choices to face, and each of your choices will affect every aspect of your future life. You must know how crucial it is to choose the right path in life for one’s growth. If you choose the wrong path, you will suffer in the end. Don’t entertain thoughts of being lucky; if you think that just because you did something wrong today and weren’t caught by the teacher, or you got into a fight with someone tomorrow and it went unnoticed, that you can keep doing wrong or fighting every day. You always think that as long as your misdeeds go undetected, but you don’t realize that one day you’ll be caught, and that moment may be fatal. Maybe they’ll use that against you, forcing you to do things you don’t want to. If you refuse, they could threaten you. Kid, realize that honest growth is essential; it’s crucial to be down-to-earth and to face difficulties. Life is always about making choices, facing challenges, and your choices determine the path you take. Never let a momentary desire for fame or gain lead to a lifelong regret. Understand that once you’ve chosen the wrong path, there’s no turning back in this lifetime!”

”Great-grandfather, I understand. I know which path to select, what kind of growth I need in my life, but I hope my parents can have another baby, a brother or sister for me. Having a sibling means I won’t be alone on the road ahead...”

...

Time swiftly moves forward—how quickly it has passed. In the blink of an eye, five years had gone. During these five years, Old Master Zhang had watched firsthand how the kid saved his files, how he threw himself into every challenge, how he trained like the devil himself, he was just like his grandson had been, desperate to prove himself to those who’d abandoned him, at any cost, even if it meant his life. All he wanted was to show others how big a mistake they had made in deserting him.

”Yichen, you see that, don’t you? Your son has the same mindset you once had. He’s also trying to prove to everyone that abandoning him was a colossal mistake. Just like when your parents abandoned you, you were desperate to show you were the strongest, unwilling to let anyone see the real you, wanting to declare to the world that you were its sovereign. You wanted them all to understand what a massive error they made leaving you. But now you’ve succeeded, and your son is left to suffer the pain you once endured. Sometimes my heart can’t bear it, I don’t know how to persuade him to stop. But I know if I were to persuade him, his heart would ache all the more. Being abandoned by those he cares about, not having seen his own grandparents from birth. The pain how can anyone comprehend? He just hopes that his grandparents will realize he’s the strongest in the world, he just hopes that his grandparents will return to his side, even if just to spare him a glance or exchange a few words. That would be enough for him...”
