My Alleged Husband

Chapter 417: Chapter 396 Give up dignity once again_1

”I won’t say anything more to you. I only hope you can understand that dignity is not the most important thing to a person, nor is being loved the most crucial thing. What truly matters is whether the one you love most can be by your side. For anyone, this is the most important thing. If you truly love her, then go and win her back properly one more time. This time, it should be with true sincerity, not with a false attitude. No woman can tolerate her husband trying to win her back falsely time and again. Do you think such an attempt is meaningful? Wouldn’t it be better to just leave completely rather than that?”

”Why is it always me who has to win her back? It’s clear the person who did wrong isn’t me. Originally, he lied to me and that’s why I suggested divorce. If that’s the case, since the whole mess was his fault, why should I have to pay for his mistakes? Even if he is the woman I love most, I can’t keep paying for his mistakes over and over. Shouldn’t he bear the responsibility for his own actions? Should I bear the consequences of the sins he committed? Is it really up to me, as his husband, to continually take the blame for his repeated mistakes?”

Old Master Zhang heard these words from his son and felt even more amused inside. What did it mean for his son to take the fall for his daughter-in-law? Even if no one else pointed it out, his own eyes were not blind. He knew very well that all along, it was his daughter-in-law who had been taking the fall for his son. So why was his son turning the facts on their head?

”Are you so sure that it’s you who was duped into taking the fall, and not her taking it for you? I may be old and unable to walk well, but my eyes aren’t blind. I can clearly see with my eyes and hear with my ears what’s in my heart, and you can still discern right from wrong. It’s always been you making the mistakes, and her bearing the blame, yet none of us exposed this, because I wanted to see how far he could go for you. In the end, I discovered that he could give endlessly for you, because his love for you is genuine. Yet you, as her husband, cruelly abandoned her. Sometimes, I feel that you don’t deserve to be her husband. A good woman like her is hard to come by in this world, and you betrayed her kindness just like that. Why? Is it because she’s your wife that you treat her this way? You keep pushing the blame onto her head while she, again and again, takes it all on like a fool. And you remain indifferent, ignoring all that she has done for you. Do you think this is right? Everyone else can see clearly how much she has done for you. And you? How do you repay her? By heartlessly abandoning her—is that your way of showing gratitude?”

Zhang Zhentian never expected that his father had seen through everything long ago. It turns out that all his actions were just an illusion. Everyone understood that it was all fake. So why didn’t anyone step forward to expose his hypocrisy, allowing him to continue making mistakes? Did they truly hope for him and his wife to be together? If so, why didn’t they come forward to help him instead of letting him continue to err, leading to the complete loss he faced today?

”Since you’ve seen it all clearly from the beginning, so clearly and distinctly, then why didn’t you tell me earlier? Why let me go on selfishly and stubbornly playing out my act like a fool? Don’t you think this is a bit unfair to me, your son? You knew I was wrong from the start, so why didn’t you correct my errors, letting me continue to make them? Now look, my wife has left me, are you satisfied? Maybe this was your ultimate goal, to have my wife truly leave me and then dump all the responsibility on me, just to scold me later. Is that your purpose?”

”I never thought that even today you would still fail to understand our good intentions. If at the time we had pointed out your mistakes, exposed your act, do you think you could have withstood such a blow? If we had exposed it then, wouldn’t you have separated from your wife long ago? We didn’t ask for much, only hoping that you two could live happily ever after. That’s all we, as parents, ever wanted for our children—to see our offspring live a happy life of their own. But the things you two have done, they truly terrify me. Just the thought makes me shudder. Right after you returned to the country, you nearly lost the chance to be with the woman you love most. Despite many mistakes, you’ve never recognized your faults, instead always shifting them onto others. And today is the same. Do you think we should clean up your mess every time you make a mistake? We’re not your cleanup crew. We are your elders, one is your son, along with your daughter-in-law and your grandchildren. What you’ve done, we can hardly believe it—time after time, the deceit. Haven’t you ever thought that every lie you tell will eventually be uncovered? When the lies are revealed, how will you face those you’ve deceived? You’ve never considered any of this, so what right do you have now to criticize me as a father? For each mistake you make, you must bear the responsibility. Don’t try to push it onto others anymore. It won’t do you any good; it’ll only cause those who care about you to lose respect for you! If there’s any part of you that still loves your wife, then please, let go of your so-called dignity and beg her to come back. Giving up your dignity this time might lead to a good outcome, a new beginning. But if you stubbornly refuse to listen, then there’s nothing we can do! Deep down, you know what you’ve done wrong. Can you really push all the blame onto others? That’s just not possible. I hope you’ll heed my advice and give up your so-called dignity once more!”
