My Alleged Husband

Chapter 432: Chapter 411 Letting Her Go Is Letting Yourself Go_1

After a whole night of thinking, Zhang Zhentian had finally come to a clear understanding. Since his wife’s heart was no longer with him, no matter how much he tried to retain her, it was all meaningless. Why force a person who no longer loved him to stay, causing both of them to live in agony? It was better to let her go completely, allowing her to live the life she desired. That way, she might be able to live freely and happily for the rest of her life, never again feeling sorrow because of anyone, and he could finally find his release.

Once Zhang Zhentian had made up his mind, he called his son. He thought it best to inform his son first. He knew that if he called his wife now, she certainly wouldn’t answer. Why go looking for rejection?

Zhang Yichen was in a meeting when he saw that his father was calling him. He hesitated, unsure whether to answer during the meeting or not. In the end, he decided to step outside temporarily and answer the call.

”Excuse me, everyone, I have an urgent matter and need to make a call. Please continue the meeting without me!”

Turning to leave, Zhang Yichen headed to his office and answered the call. ”What made you think of calling me today, Dad? Is there something you want to talk about? If there’s something, just say it now. I’m still in the middle of a meeting. I saw you were calling and felt bad not answering, so I came out just to take the call. If you have something to say, please hurry up so we don’t waste each other’s time, okay?”

”Yichen, when do you have time? Let’s meet up.”

”Okay, how about the coffee shop downstairs from my office after the meeting ends?”

”Good, I’ll wait for you!”

And so, father and son happily decided on the place to meet that afternoon.

After the meeting was over...

”Can you tell me what’s going on now?” Zhang Yichen began as soon as he saw Zhang Zhentian. He felt he had nothing to say to his father. He had begged him to come back, but he didn’t want to. What was the point of meeting now?

”Yichen, it’s like this. After thinking it through all of last night, I’ve come to understand that I shouldn’t selfishly keep your mother by my side. She wouldn’t be happy that way. Rather than letting her live in misery with me, it’s better to let her go and live happily outside. The most important thing to me is her smile. I shouldn’t selfishly rob her of the right to smile. Yet, I’m deeply aware that without her, I’ll be in agony. In the past, I’ve always been too selfish, committing acts that she couldn’t forgive. Now I realize my mistakes, but time has passed, and no one will pay for my wrongdoing. I understand that I must bear the consequences of my own actions, so I had no choice but to ask you to come out to tell you this. Please convey to your mother that I’ve completely understood now. From now on, I won’t pester her anymore. She can live the life she wants with peace of mind. Whether she is happy in her heart, I’ll never know, and my heart will never find joy again in this lifetime. All I hope is for her to live a happy life forever. That’s enough for me. Tell her, I’m sorry. It was me who committed those unforgivable acts, and it was I who didn’t consider her feelings and insisted on the divorce.”

”If you knew you did so many wrongs, why didn’t you come to your senses sooner and let go of my mother earlier? As the younger generation, I always hoped that my parents would not split up because it would not be a happy outcome for me. But after repeatedly seeing my mother weep in pain because of your harassment, I realized that she was truly heartbroken. Heartbroken not by the things I did but because you, her husband, didn’t trust her. The most crucial thing between a husband and wife is trust, isn’t it? I really don’t understand when you lost trust in my mother, choosing to believe others over her. How could my mother trust and continue with you under those circumstances? Have you ever thought about what would happen because of your actions? If you didn’t, then stop expecting good outcomes to just fall upon you. In the beginning, I didn’t know whether you were happy or cheerful, but every day mom was sullen. No matter how I tried to cheer her up, she was always expressionless. Her smile disappeared the moment you left her. It was on the day you abandoned her that her right to smile was taken away. Still, she continued to smile bravely, believing that as long as she faced life with a smile, society would return it. That’s my mother, but I don’t want to see her struggling like this any longer. That’s why I say this, not hoping you’d continue to pester my mom, but to let you know letting go is the right thing to do. Your release will bring her great joy. The pain my mother felt from your harassment is something you’ll never understand in a lifetime. To watch her own husband abandon her and then come back to apologize, is it like a child being slapped by an adult, who then offers the child candy? How could anyone feel good about that? When you act, have you considered how to handle these matters? You’re just like my grandfather, as my mother says, doing whatever comes to mind. It might seem like a good approach, but can you always make the right decision for every situation?”

”I know I’ve wronged her, mom, but it’s already been so many days. Why won’t she forgive me? I know the things I did at the time really hurt her, and I’ve apologized, but I really don’t understand what this woman wants me to do for her to come back to me?” Zhang Zhentian complained to Zhang Yichen.
