My Alleged Husband

Chapter 412: Chapter 391 Zhang Zhentian Goes Berserk_1

Old Master Zhang was acutely aware that no matter what he said now, he could not keep his daughter-in-law by his side. He knew that the situation had already unfolded and there was no possibility of rectification, and that this whole situation had reached such a conclusion entirely because of his son. He truly did not understand what his son was trying to achieve or when would he ever be satisfied.

Zhang Yichen looked at his grandfather’s deeply furrowed brow and knew that all of these events had already taken place, stemming from the actions of his own father. What should he do? On one side was his biological father, and on the other his grandfather. Faced with this balance between self-interest and familial affection, whom should he choose?

In the end, Zhang Yichen decided to make a call to Zhang Zhentian. Regardless of the reasons behind everything or for whom they were done, he ought to make that call to ask why his father had let things get this way. His mother was thoroughly prepared to leave him; why wasn’t his father willing to take action to find her? Did his own lifelong happiness truly mean so little to him in his eyes?

When Zhang Zhentian heard his phone ringing, he was certain it was Xia Jing calling him. But when he picked up the phone, the caller ID wasn’t his wife which caused him a twinge of disappointment. Why wasn’t the call from the woman he loved? Instead, it was his son. Why was his son calling at this time, and what for?

Zhang Zhentian hesitated for a while before he sluggishly answered the call. He felt that he should take the call anyway since his son might have some good news to share. If he missed this chance, would he regret it for the rest of his life?

”Yichen, what made you think to call Daddy today? Do you have some good news to tell me? Come on, spill it. Daddy is waiting for this good news. Perhaps you don’t know how much I’m longing for it. Don’t make me wait too long, okay?”

Zhang Yichen felt somewhat amused. Why would his father think that he had called to share good news? Didn’t he realize what he had done wrong up to this point?

”Daddy, don’t you realize what you did wrong? My mom is going to leave me completely because of you. Do you really feel nothing inside? Do you really think these things have nothing to do with you? I really don’t understand what benefit it is to you to make my mom leave. How can you do this? How can you bear to do this? I am your biological son. Have you ever considered my feelings as your son? Every time it feels like you are pushing me toward death. How much more do you want to hurt me? For your sake, I’ve already compromised, and for you, I’ve stepped back again and again. Yet why do you still oppress me, feeling pleased as you drive my mom away from you? You are a middle-aged man. Why don’t you ever consider the consequences of your actions? Why are you so arbitrary in your decisions? Do you think that what you’re doing benefits us? Do you think that this is for the good of everyone? You just don’t understand what it means to love. You use it as an excuse to exploit others. You say you love my mom and then you exploit her. It’s true, you exploited her for more than a decade with your ’love’. Isn’t that enough? What more do you want now? Aren’t you satisfied? Things have reached this point step by step because of you, and it’s time you stopped. What’s the use of continuing to make mistakes? Why can’t you look at things from the perspective of us, your family, and see how difficult it is for us? How much I wish all of us could return home and live happily together?”

Zhang Zhentian didn’t expect that his son’s call wasn’t to share good news, but to scold him. He did not want to be reprimanded as a father by his own son. Deep down, he felt extremely uncomfortable yet powerless to retort, fully aware that he was indeed at fault. And what right had he to justify himself?

”Is this how you speak to your father? Is this the attitude a son should have? Is this how you treat your elders? Don’t you know I’m your biological father? You clearly know I’m your dad, why then do you speak to me with such an attitude? Don’t you know it’s very impolite? I really don’t understand how my father raised you, nor do I understand how he brought you up to be so rash, never considering the consequences of your actions, quick to blame others without even clarifying the right and wrong of situations. Is this what you learned?”

”Yes, I didn’t learn well, but what of it? I was raised by Grandpa. Though my achievements are hard-won today, I never received a single ounce of motherly or fatherly love from either of you. How can you then criticize me? Why claim I’m impolite to you, my elders? When have you ever cared for me growing up? Did you ever speak a warm word to me? Did you ever show me any shred of fatherly love? Did you ever spend even a day by my side? Now without you, you can’t come to me with these words, because saying them only makes me feel utterly ashamed and disgusted. It’s true, you’re my father, and that can’t be changed because it’s in our DNA, but there’s something I still hope you’ll understand: wherever and whenever, you should never criticize me, your son, in this tone, because you never raised me, and that means you have no right. Since you have no right, don’t stand there self-righteously...”
