My Alleged Husband

Chapter 401: Chapter 380 Understanding_1

”My child, you have really endured a lot these years. You’ve always been by my grandson’s side, never leaving him no matter what. He suffered the abandonment of his father and mother, and without you, he might not be standing alive in front of me as he is now. Looking back on everything from those days, my heart is also filled with pain. If I had been willing to spend a little more time with her, to not focus solely on training him to be talented, would he have suffered less? Could she have been happier and more joyful than she is now? Often, I don’t even know what I have done. I watched as he nearly became a monster, always being strict with himself, pushing himself, never allowing himself to show weakness to anyone. He did all this just to prove to his parents that he was not useless, to make them realize how big a loss it was to abandon him. To prove himself to his parents, he has endured so much hardship, painstakingly taking each step, where each footprint is not just any footprint, but a blend of blood and tears. Looking back on the past, I now understand that every decision I made was wrong. If she could live a happy life, why did I need to ask for so much? If it weren’t for my excessive demands, how could he have come to this point? How could his parents have stayed away for over ten years without ever returning? And if it weren’t for me, how could his own parents have abandoned him? He has spent over a decade without any parental love; it is for this reason that his heart has a void, a void that only you can fill. Although he says he has forgiven his parents, deep down he still resents them. Which child would not hate their parents for abandoning them for over a decade without any reason? Don’t be fooled by your husband’s smiles every day; in truth, his heart is the most pained. He endures the pain of abandonment from his parents, while at the same time, putting on a smiling face for everyone, because he cannot let the world see how fragile he is deep down. Once his enemies see how weak he is inside, they would seize his vulnerability and deal a fatal blow. To protect the company I care about, the reputation he cares about, and to guard what he perceives as the dignity and pride of his parents, he has endured too much. Yet now his parents are still unwilling to return. How should he feel inside? Doesn’t this make him feel that all his efforts over these years have been in vain?”

Upon hearing what Old Master Zhang said, Ran Zhihan felt a deep discomfort in her heart, agreeing with every word her grandfather-in-law had said. She knew how much her husband had suffered over the years, yet he never spoke of it, because she believed in her husband and didn’t want to seem frail in his eyes. Whenever she was most lonely and uncertain, her husband was there, but she couldn’t let herself do the same because she had to make her husband believe that he was the strongest.

”To be honest, Grandpa, watching the man I love suffer these years has been excruciating for me. But there was nothing I could do because I understand how much my husband values his pride. Even though he never says it, what man doesn’t care about his face? Since I’ve become his wife, I should manage the bigger picture for his sake and consider everything from his perspective. I can’t be selfish and care only about my happiness. I have seen through everything now. The moments when I am happiest are when my husband is happiest, and his happiest moments are my happiest moments. I am one with him now, and we will never be apart again. We’ll spend our lives together, side by side, forging our future. His world has now been built, and I have the crystallization of our love. As for me, I have no regrets in this life!”

”You really are a foolish girl. How can you be so foolish? Couldn’t you think about things differently? Think about it, do you truly have no regrets about everything you’ve done? You’ve given up so much for your husband, and although I understand he has also given much for you, in comparison, both of you have faced immense hardships. Your sufferings don’t pale compared to each other’s. I know, the torment you both have gone through is all thanks to his parents. The pain they have caused you will be an unforgettable wound in this lifetime because it’s the harm a senior brought upon a junior, and such harm is not something that can be easily forgotten. I do understand how painful it is for you, but I also hope you know that when your parents return, it will mean they truly regret their actions. Regardless of anything, you must forgive them then and allow them to return home with dignity, because ultimately, a family united can truly flourish... after all, harmony in the family makes everything successful...”

...

As they were still discussing these matters, Old Master Zhang’s phone rang. It was Xia Jing.

”What do you need that you’re calling me? Or are you just calling to tell me once more that you refuse to come back?”

”Dad, it’s not like that. I’m calling you this time to let you know that I’ve thought it over. I should come back home, to be with my son, daughter-in-law, and my grandson. I’ve missed too much of my son’s growing up, and I should not miss my grandson’s. This is a pain for both my grandson and my son. I don’t know if it’s too late for me to say I want to come back to this home now. Dad, I’ve really seen the light. Please give me another chance. I won’t be as willful as before, casually abandoning my family. I truly realize now how important family is. Without them, no matter how happy one might be elsewhere, it’s meaningless!”

Elder Zhang’s heart swelled with joy, happy that his daughter-in-law could come to such a realization so soon. Yet his heart was not entirely pleased; why could his daughter-in-law see what his son couldn’t?
