My Alleged Husband

Chapter 411: Chapter 390 No Need to Persuade Anymore_1

Zhang Yichen returned home, and Old Master Zhang saw his grandson come back, but behind him was no silhouette of his daughter-in-law. He didn’t understand what was going on. Could it be that his grandson had failed to persuade her? But that shouldn’t be the case. If she were a mother at heart, truly caring for her son, she should stay for his sake no matter what. So why was the situation before him completely different from what he wanted to see? What was this outcome all about?

”Yichen, why have you come back alone? Didn’t your mother come back with you? Weren’t you supposed to go out and persuade your mother to come back with you? Why have you come back home alone now? Is it that she doesn’t want to come back with you? As long as she’s willing to stay in this city, that would be enough!”

”Grandpa, my mother has left. I think there’s no need for anyone to try to convince her anymore. Since this was a decision she made after careful consideration, no amount of persuading is going to work. I believe you understand what kind of temper my mother has. Any decision she makes, it’s useless for anyone to try to change her mind. Since that’s the case, none of us should waste such fruitless efforts!” Zhang Yichen spoke to Old Master Zhang. ”Actually, I really can’t understand—if she really is my mother, why can she so cold-heartedly abandon me time and again, without being moved at all? Can’t she feel the slightest bit of heartache? Am I truly her son in her eyes? If she did regard me as her son, how could she treat me this way? Is this fair to me? Can her heart really bear such treatment of me? I never imagined that my mother could be so heartless to abandon me, once wasn’t enough and she has to do it a second time; this thought is simply unbearable to my heart!”

”Ah, child, don’t make things so complicated. Your mother actually loves you very much. She had her reasons for what she did. Try to understand her!”

”Grandpa, you always ask me to understand my parents, but have they ever considered what it feels like for me? Stuck in the middle while my mom and dad argue, their child is the one who suffers the most. Did they ever think about how their son feels when they fight? As soon as they mention divorce, they go through with it. What does that make of their son? Where does that leave me? Have they ever thought about the consequences of their own actions? Do they ever pay the price for their own mistakes? Or should we bear the consequences for their actions, mistakes they’ve made? Why should we shoulders the repercussions of their decisions? They’ve been so selfish, abandoning me so many times, and yet they want to abandon me again, abandoning my wife, my son, and even you, Grandpa. Are you really okay with this? One is your son, and the other your daughter-in-law, and they just cast you aside so easily. They have never truly considered us. Grandpa, doesn’t your heart ache?”

”How could my heart not ache? But still, as long as your father and mother can be happy and live a blissful life, that’s enough for me. That’s the most sincere blessing from an elder to one from the younger generation. Perhaps they don’t realize this is my wish for them, but I still hope that one day they will understand that, as an elder, my heart will always regard them as my son and daughter-in-law. Even though they have not been by my side over the years, I still value them so much. Because I believe that one day they will see clearly the worries I, as a parent, have for them. One day they will return home of their own accord, and it will not be for any other reason...”

Zhang Yichen thought his grandfather was really foolish. Both of his parents had abandoned him, but why did he still persist like this? He suffered all the painful loneliness for his parents to happily live their lives, but was this what paternal love was like? How rare it was to see such a great extent of selflessness in the world.

”Grandpa, I have to admit, your paternal love is indeed profound. Despite the deep pain, enduring the agony of yearning here, you still wish for your son and daughter-in-law to live a happy, fulfilling life and to follow the path they desire. Yet you never think about how much pain you’re in. You may think all this is unimportant, but I hope you understand, Grandpa. Regardless of what decision Mom and Dad made, they will never turn back. If that’s the case, why should we continue to wait for their return? They do not see us as family; why should we treat them as the people we care about the most?”

”Regardless of what your parents have done wrong, as the younger generation, you should never criticize or blame their actions. You should try to see things from their perspective. Child, trust me, one day you will understand all these reasons. Don’t let yourself be so heartbroken. You need to live your happy life. Let Grandpa bear the torment of missing them alone. Don’t let your wife know about these things; it would upset her. I know she’s a kind girl who is understanding. But she shouldn’t have to take our burdens upon herself. Think about it, now that you have a child, you should live the happy life you desire. As for me, an old fool, already one foot in the grave, my life not long for this world, you don’t need to worry too much about how I feel!”

”Grandpa, what nonsense are you talking about? No matter what, you are the most important person to us...”

Zhang Yichen couldn’t bear to hear his grandfather speak of himself this way. He knew that his grandfather was old, but he still didn’t want him to leave. To him, the most important person in his life, aside from his wife, was his grandfather. He even felt indebted to his grandfather for raising him and helping to achieve what he had today. If one day his grandfather were to leave, what was he to do? This was a thought he dared not entertain, for if it ever crossed his mind, it truly would leave him numb.
