My Alleged Husband

Chapter 449: Chapter 428: Is it her?_1

Zhang Yichen pulled Ran Zhihan back into the bedroom and said to her, ”Zhihan, I know that you were in our son’s room just now, and you want to say something to me, but I hope you won’t stand up and plead for him anymore. Haven’t you noticed? Since he came back tonight, he’s been off. I don’t know what he’s gone through, I have no idea who that ’strange grandma’ he mentioned is, and I certainly don’t know why he has suddenly changed like this in one night. Do all of you really feel like he’s a stranger tonight too? Does each word he said sound like something our son would say to my parents? Our son is definitely not that kind of person, unless that person said something to him that deeply moved him, and that’s why he became what he is tonight. And I must find out who that person is, who dares to mess with my son.”

”Yichen, why do you have to say these things to our son? Do you realize how much pressure your words put on this child? If he suddenly cannot take it anymore and claims he isn’t your son, would you really drive him out of the house? You didn’t stop to think that we bombarded him with questions as soon as he came home tonight. He must be feeling annoyed inside, and perhaps that ’nice lady’ he mentioned really did say something to him that made him so averse to us. Let me handle this matter. You go and check out who that strange lady is, there should be surveillance cameras near where they met. Why would a woman be out talking to my son in the middle of the night? Don’t all of you find this very odd?”

”Wife, no matter what you say, I hope you won’t interfere with this matter tonight. Don’t you know that if I leave this matter to you, you will only continue to pamper our child? Can’t you see what he has become now? Every word he says feels so unfamiliar to us. If we give him more time, will he become even more brazen, disregarding those of us who love and care about him? You should also understand that Grandpa is very old and can’t take another scare like he had tonight. Do you also hope that my Grandpa, who has raised me for so many years, will suddenly leave because of my son? I can tell you flat out that if my Grandpa loses his life because of my son, I will never recognize him as my son for the rest of my life. I will tell everyone that he’s no longer my son and sever all father-son ties with him. In Chongqing, he will no longer share my surname, he will not be the head of my household, nor will he be able to use the Zhang family name to gain more help. Maybe you think my decision is hard for you to accept, but I hope you can understand that there’s a day when even the best son-in-law can’t be regretted. I truly cannot accept my Grandpa leaving me. I can live without a son; I can be all alone for the rest of my life, as long as you’re by my side. But I also hope that my Grandpa can stay with me for my whole life. You know how much he’s given me and how much he has sacrificed. How could I let my Grandpa live in fear because of me? Isn’t that too much? He, an old man, had to wait up for our son to come home because our son was out having fun, not coming home at night, making everyone in the family worried. And when he finally returned, he showed no response and always felt like we, the adults, were the ones who were wrong. Do you think this is the attitude a child should have?”

After listening, Ran Zhihan knew that no matter what she said, it wouldn’t make any difference. She also understood how important Grandpa was to her husband; her husband had been raised by his Grandpa from a very young age, so the emotional bond was much stronger than average. If her son really caused Grandpa to leave this world because of this incident, her son truly would never be able to return to the Zhang family. She had never considered that this matter could escalate to such a degree and become so uncontrollable.

”Alright, I think I understand what you’re saying. Don’t worry, I won’t interfere in this matter anymore. I hope you handle it fairly. If this matter really is related to the person we both suspect, then I hope you take care of it properly. Don’t let our son know that this is related to him, or else he will also feel very distressed. Actually, you don’t need to tell me; when my son mentioned that strange lady, not only were you and I suspicious, but Grandpa was too, yet we said nothing, hoping our son wouldn’t find out about it. We want him to live happily and carefree, without worries. But often things don’t go as planned, and you never know what will happen next, nor do you know what you’ll face tomorrow. All you can do is make the most of today, ensuring it’s filled with joy and color, without any regrets. I also understand that something must have happened today to make our son change like this, and besides that person, no one else could have done this.”

”Wife, I knew that the only people in the world who truly understand me are Grandpa and you. I understand what’s on your minds, but for now, I can’t investigate this matter directly; I can only look into it secretly to see if it really is him. If it turns out to be him, then don’t blame me for being heartless. If anyone causes me to lose my reputation, I will never forgive them, even if it’s the person I love the most. No one can compare to Grandpa’s place in my heart, and I will not let him take any risk for someone else, nor can I let him lose his life over something unnecessary. Let’s keep this between us for now. Once we figure it out, we’ll decide if we should tell Grandpa or not.”
