My Alleged Husband

Chapter 402: Chapter 381: Where is Your Husband?_1

”It’s good you’ve come to your senses, it’s good,” Old Master Zhang said. ”Now that you’ve understood, come back home. You might not know this, but do you realize your son and your daughter-in-law are waiting for you every day at the doorstep, longing for your return? They so desperately wish for their mother to be by their side. I really can’t understand how you could be so heartless as to abandon your own son time and time again. Do you know how much damage your abandonment has caused your son? His heart is fragile too; he can’t bear being abandoned by his parents over and over again. Do you understand the kind of blow that is? It’s a fatal blow! Yet why have you never considered what your son truly wants in his heart? You always think you know best, so stubborn and self-righteous. Do you really believe that what you want is what your son desires? Why aren’t you willing to see things from his perspective? Have you never felt that your love for your son is too humble? You’ve never thought about what your child needs. You’ve always tried to impose your own ideas on him. If it weren’t for your repeated abandonments over the years, he wouldn’t have had to walk this difficult path, leaving a trail of bloody footprints. You’ve never witnessed how hard he has struggled to get to where he is today, and you can never truly understand what kind of hardship that is. You can’t comprehend the feeling of being abandoned by one’s own parents. Your merciless abandonment of your child—I don’t know how to say these things to you, but I can make one thing clear: Your heartless abandonment the first time might be proof of carelessness, but the second time proves your cruelty. You didn’t just abandon him twice; it was three times, four times... Why must you hurt a son who loves you, again and again? Do you know how heartbreaking it is for me to see him? He could be living happily in this world, but instead, he has to endure the pain of being abandoned by his parents!”

When Xia Jing heard what Old Master Zhang had said, she felt a deep sense of guilt. She hadn’t realized that for so many years she had failed to fulfill the responsibilities of a mother to her son. All this was her own failing—how could she make up for all these mistakes?

”Father, I know,” Xia Jing said. ”I know that what I’ve done is unforgivable, almost unbelievable, for someone who is a mother. When I made those decisions, I never thought about the consequences, nor did I consider the outcomes they would bring. I never imagined that it would cause such a great misunderstanding between me and my son. I had no idea that losing a loved one could be so painful. I always thought my son was someone I could manipulate at will. Only when I saw him standing at the pinnacle of the world did I realize how far apart we were. Throughout his growth, I haven’t been there for him for even a day. I have failed to fulfill a mother’s duty for even a day. I owe him an apology, it’s my fault that he has had to live such a hard life every day. I know how difficult these years have been for my son, but I am at a loss. I don’t know how to explain myself to my son, nor how to continue to interact with him. Gradually, I’ve come to understand that my son is the best reward this world has given me—even if I’ve made many mistakes, Heaven has always granted me such a wonderful son. This is an extraordinary blessing in my life, and I am truly grateful to Heaven for that. But I never expected my son to be ten, a hundred, a thousand times more outstanding than his father!”

”Since you’ve just mentioned your husband, I want to ask, where is Zhentian? Why didn’t he come back with you? Does he still not want to return? I really don’t understand what reasons he has to keep wandering outside, unwilling to come home and see his grandson. I truly don’t understand what’s in his heart. After all these years, is he still that hard-hearted? Why is it that despite your son’s many sacrifices, you always turn a blind eye and remain unmoved? Do you really feel nothing? Can you really not sense how much your son loves you?” Old Master Zhang continued speaking to Xia Jing. ”Maybe we have different notions of love, but I still want to tell you that even if our concepts of love differ, as long as you’re willing to give everything to the person you love, to treat them sincerely, the results will be different. Have you ever truly treated your son with sincerity? Have you ever considered him as a true member of your family? We never have. You’ve always seen your son as something to use, only ever considering how he can serve your purposes and face the consequences of your actions. You never thought about the pain you might cause your child. Now that your husband has chosen not to come home, he might as well not return at all. The Zhang family has no need for such a person who could abandon his son not just once but over and again, and now, even when his own wife has returned, he still refuses to come back. We can’t afford to support such a person...”

”Father, the situation isn’t like that,” Xia Jing replied. ”To this day, he doesn’t know that I’ve decided to come back home, and I haven’t planned on telling him. I wanted to see to what extent he would go for me. I still can’t get over the way he forcefully demanded a divorce. Do you know how painful it is when the husband you’ve shared a bed with for over a decade suddenly asks for a divorce? I’ll never forget that day. Now, I only hope for him to prove his remorse through his actions, to understand that every word he said has consequences, and that he can’t just speak carelessly!”

Old Master Zhang nodded, not saying another word.
