My Alleged Husband

Chapter 427: Chapter 406: Zhentian Knows_1

”Child, I hope when I return to China, you won’t tell your father about this. I still don’t want to see him up to now. Being abroad, all these years he has called me every day, and I truly feel very annoyed by it. Although I know he means well at heart, I still can’t stand his situation!”

Zhang Yichen sighed after listening and said to Xia Jing, ”Mom, if you clearly have dad in your heart, why don’t you want to be with him? Or is there some compelling hardship forcing you to avoid him? Being with us is guaranteed to eventually bring happiness, but looking at you now, every day so serious without a smile, are you sure this is the life you want? Are you certain this is the life you need most in your lifetime? Why are you still as obstinate as before? Why do you still deceive my feelings like you used to? Don’t you know? Often you don’t even know what you should do, and I’ve never said anything. I gave you the money early because I thought you are an old person, and it’s not easy for you. But I later realized my mistake. I shouldn’t treat my kindness as a pretense for doing good deeds. Time and again, but in the end, it only leads to being deceived out of all possessions, and you never know when enough is enough! Mom, are you satisfied with your current life? Do you really think living aimlessly the life you want makes you happy? You might not know, but during the time you’re not here to explain, each one of us has asked those monks about when you will return. But every time, the answer is devastating because all you ever bring to the child is sorrow and loss. No one ever thinks about what the child’s mother actually needs to do. Mom, if you really still have me, your son, in your heart, then I beg you, pick up your old skills and come back to the department with me today. You can resign if you want to, but why put me through such pain? Dad really misses you, don’t keep avoiding him. I know these years abroad have been hard for you and not everything went smoothly, but none of that has anything to do with dad. He occasionally comes back to China to look after things because he feels it’s time to visit her after being a grandfather for so many days without seeing her. If he stays as stubborn as before, then how can he face his ancestors?”

”You don’t need to say anything; I won’t change my mind. What’s past between him and me is thoroughly in the past. There’s nothing left to discuss. So why should we meet? What does he want to save? I despise people like that the most, always trying to make amends. If he knew he would end up begging others one day, why did he make such a decision in the first place? Every decision he’s made, he doesn’t think about bearing the consequences, what kind of man is that?”

Zhang Yichen felt that every word his mother said was right, but he wanted his parents to be together. Yet, he didn’t know what to say or how to act, because he had never experienced it. But now, with his mother and father standing before him, clearly visible, once a couple, now like strangers without even a greeting. This feeling was greatly distressing for both parties.

”Mom, you really should tell dad that you’ve returned to China. Whatever decisions he makes, whatever disputes arise, it’s not for you to adopt an indifferent attitude. You have to decide how to live out your life, not avoid it. Do you know how hard dad works every day? You are his wife; shouldn’t you sympathize with the hardships he endures for everything he does?”

”Enough with your pictures; in all your hearts, I’m still not considerate enough. How much more considerate do you expect me to be? Should I worship him like a god? Is that consideration? Why do you always think it’s my fault? Have you ever wondered if this isn’t your father’s doing? What role does he play? What part has he acted in all this? Have you thought about it? Not once, so what right do you have to confront me? All the noise and chaos, time after time. Sometimes, Mom, it’s best to forgive and forget. Dad knows he’s wrong, and that’s enough. Don’t keep punishing him over and over; it hurts him too. And it didn’t feel good for you either. Don’t let two people who once loved each other become strangers, let alone enemies.”

”Impossible. I’ve made my decision for this lifetime without an ending with him, and I will never have any relationship with him again. That way, I feel neither his heart nor mine will be at ease, because if people from his side find out he’s been preoccupied with me, a woman, to the point of neglecting food and rest, wouldn’t all his years of progress come to nothing? I can’t be so selfish. I think now I should tell the truth to my lover, to my mother!”

”In reality, you know better than I do what should and shouldn’t be done. Give dad another chance. Don’t let him spend his life alone. Give him another chance, so he can have time to be by your side, take care of you, make amends. Don’t let my dad spend the rest of his life amid cold words and scorn!”

”I’ve said it, there’s no possibility. I will definitely not backtrack. What kind of ability is backtracking? Haven’t I had enough already? Why do you always make me come back to do these things?”

”I’ve already told dad about you coming back to the country. I hope you two can find a time to have a proper talk. Don’t be as willful as before. That way, not only do you lose out, but everyone around you suffers too. You should really think about how to settle down here. I’ll say it again, I sincerely hope that after this, you’ll come back with me. And I still have a big role for you to help with. In my heart, you are the most supportive person to me...”
