My Alleged Husband

Chapter 433: Chapter 412 Why Are You Dissatisfied?_1

Had Zhang Yichen seen the dissatisfaction his father harbored toward his mother? Now, he found the situation increasingly ridiculous. It wasn’t his mother who had done something wrong, so why should she suffer without complaining while his father, who had erred, still found reason to grumble? What kind of world was this becoming? Yet Yichen knew all too clearly that living in such chaotic times meant bowing one’s head, seeking the opinions of one’s elders on many matters – after all, they were still his elders.

”Dad, from what you’re saying, you’re still dissatisfied with Mom, aren’t you?” Yichen challenged. ”What gives you the right to be dissatisfied with her? She never held any grievances against you for anything you did, so why do you get to be unhappy with her? Everything you’ve done has deeply hurt her. Has she ever said anything against you? She’s just a person who keeps all her suffering bottled up inside, never blaming you to anyone. In her heart, even though you’ve done so many things to betray her trust, she still chooses to believe in you because she considers you her husband, her partner. If fate has brought you together as a couple, then she feels she should give you her whole heart. But what about you? How have you treated my mom? Do you trust her? Because of one little lie, you so easily threw her aside. Is this how a husband should act? Maybe sometimes you’re not aware of it, but do you realize the impact your actions have on your marriage? You’re impulsive, saying and doing whatever comes to mind without considering the consequences. I can understand that much, but time and again, you hurt my mother deeply, and I really don’t know what to think. She loves you so much; what reasons do you have for inflicting such pain on her, leaving her battered and bruised?”

”Son, you always think that our divorce was entirely my fault. Have you ever considered why I did it? Should we talk with your mom about it? At that time, I loved her so much, I couldn’t tolerate the slightest flaw. I was afraid she would leave me because she was unhappy with you. Do you understand? The main reason we divorced was that she lied to me about her health. It doesn’t matter what else she has said or done to me, or how she feels inside, or whether she trusts me. What I care about is whether she’s healthy or not. To prove her word to others, she even gambled with her own health. What am I, as a husband, supposed to think? Was that also wrong? I valued her health more than my own, was I mistaken there too? I didn’t want my wife to feel even a little bit unhappy because of me. I just wanted her to live a happy life. Was that so wrong? Don’t you know what kind of temper your mother has? Without punishment, she would never admit defeat. My actions were meant to make sure she clearly remembered never to gamble with her health because it would hurt the hearts of those who loved her. I loved her so much, and yet she hurt me this way. I was really blinded by anger then and impulsively asked for a divorce. But later, I didn’t want a divorce. I wasn’t repeatedly pressing her for one. It’s only up to now that things have reached this point! Ultimately, the biggest mistake wasn’t that we divorced; it’s that she chose to deceive me from the start. If you have no feelings for me, then don’t choose to be with me, causing me to invest all my emotions only to end up in heart-wrenching pain. Do you know how that feels? How excruciatingly painful it is?”

Zhang Yichen sighed, knowing he no longer wanted to unravel the complicated truths behind everything. Only his parents, the two parties involved, understood the depths of their hearts – feelings no one else could comprehend. Since they had made such a decision, why should he meddle in their affairs? Seeing his mother’s resolute demeanor, and his father, in agony from her resoluteness, was something he, as a younger member of the family, never wanted to experience. Yet all these unwanted feelings had visited him. It seemed Heaven was fair after all, rewarding him with exceptional talent and extraordinary attractiveness, while leaving his family so shattered and fragmented!

”I don’t want to meddle in your marital affairs anymore. All I hope is that you clearly understand that every action comes with a price. The evil you do will one day be seen by Heaven itself. Indeed, as people say, Heaven does have eyes. She watches every deed, keeping them in sight and in mind. Those who do wrong will be punished, just that their time hasn’t come yet. Sometimes, being a good person is very important. In my whole life, I can’t be certain whether my mother was good or bad, but one thing I am sure of is that she truly loved my father. She would have sacrificed anything for him, even her life. And yet, in the end, my mother and father still reached the point of divorce.”

”You two always like to judge by appearance. Does a shiny exterior mean her heart is truly kind? Often, you should look deeper. I must admit, sometimes your mother can be ruthlessly cruel. Now that things have come to this, I know I will have no further chance with her. Since I have realized I should let her go, I won’t entangle her into coming back to me. Sometimes, when I think back, I am terrified – how could I have shared a bed with such a cold-hearted woman for over a decade? The biggest mistake of my life was when I decisively left the Zhang family, abandoned you, and I will have no greater regrets. My other mistake was that I should have never had this relationship with your mother. This is a knot in my heart that I will never be able to untie in this lifetime!”
