My Alleged Husband

Chapter 451: Chapter 430: How did the check go?_1

Zhang Yichen knew what his grandfather was worried about. He had skipped breakfast and hurried out as soon as he got up. He called his good friends, asking them to thoroughly investigate the matter, and he also informed the police, reporting the incident so they could review surveillance footage from the night to find out what had happened to his son. He was determined to get to the bottom of this; he couldn’t bear the thought of his grandfather getting scared again because of these issues.

”President!” Xiao Cheng, Zhang Yichen’s secretary, came in and said to Yichen.

”Xiao Cheng, you’re here. Then quickly look into this matter for me. I want it investigated thoroughly, crystal clear. I want to see who had the audacity to stop my son from coming home in the middle of the night and almost caused my grandfather to have an episode and be hospitalized. Once you have a clear answer, tell me immediately. Remember, under no circumstances should this be disclosed to the outside world, as it involves the reputation of the women in our family. You know how much my grandfather values his face. If others find out that my grandfather was almost hospitalized because of this, where would he put his face? When handling this, I expect you to be extremely cautious. I trust you’re prudent, but I still need to remind you, given the gravity of this situation.”

”Okay, President. I understand, and I know what to do. It’s about your family’s reputation, and I will be very careful. Thank you for trusting me. I will not let you down. Just give me three days, and I will have the matter clarified in detail for you. As soon as I find the truth, I will notify you immediately. Please be patient.”

”Hello, am I speaking to the Chief of the Public Security Bureau? This is Zhang Yichen!”

As soon as the Chief picked up the phone, he said eagerly, ”Oh, it’s President Zhang. What can I do for you?”

”Last night, my son was intercepted by a strange woman on his way, and he almost didn’t make it home. This upset my grandfather so much that he was nearly hospitalized. As you know, I value my son greatly, yet he was harassed by some woman for no reason on his way home. She kept holding on to him and wouldn’t let him go. I want to know if there’s any surveillance footage available for the area my son was in last night. I need to know who this woman is. I cannot let my son be wronged for no reason, nor can I have my grandfather nearly hospitalized for nothing. This is very important to me, and I hope you can accommodate my request.”

”What are you saying? If you need surveillance footage, just let me know and I’ll burn it onto a disc and send it to you right away. Why the formality with me? I’m not sure what to say about this; such incidents have been happening frequently, with children being abducted. I can’t be sure if it’s the same person behind it—could it be them?”

”Chief, I need your help to get to the bottom of this. If this can be clearly investigated, there will be a generous reward. However, should the investigation yield unclear results, I’m sure you understand the consequences, right?”

”Rest assured, I will investigate this thoroughly and inform you as soon as I have the results. I only hope for your leniency. If the matter is resolved, a reward is unnecessary; but if it turns out to be unclear, I hope for your magnanimous forgiveness, sparing me a future.”

”Just do your job diligently, and that’ll be fine. But if I find out you’re not doing your job properly, I’m sorry to say, there are many out there who aspire to be a Chief—it won’t make a difference without you...”

”Yes, yes, yes...”

After hanging up the phone, Zhang Yichen got busy with his work. Time flew, and the three-day deadline had arrived. He called his secretary to inquire about the investigation.

”Xiao Cheng, how’s the investigation of the matter I assigned to you going? Is it thoroughly clear yet? And have you checked with the Chief about the surveillance footage? It’s been three days, and they can’t produce even one video? What are these people doing? If really necessary, I don’t mind replacing the Chief.”

”President, the investigation you assigned to me is almost clear. It seems related to a lady with the last name Xia, but I’m not sure of her full name. Just give me a moment, and I will immediately call the Chief about the disc and surveillance. If the Chief hasn’t sorted it out yet, I will convey your message, and I hope for your patience.”

”Hello, Chief. I’m President Zhang’s secretary. I’d like to ask about the surveillance matter you discussed with the President. He told me if it isn’t resolved by now, he wouldn’t mind appointing a new Chief, so I hope you can accommodate us!”

”It’s done, it’s done. I will rush the disc over to President Zhang right away, or you can help me bring it to him. I hope you can put in some good words for me with the President, so he doesn’t replace me. It hasn’t been easy getting to my position today!”

Zhang Yichen examined the surveillance footage brought by his secretary from the Public Security Bureau. The woman in the video bore an uncanny resemblance to his mother, and even after five years, her appearance seemed almost unchanged. Yet he could not believe it was his mother behind this. Why would she treat him like this? Could it be she had come back for revenge against his grandfather? Was it for the family fortune, or another reason that she returned, causing them to live in constant fear? Did she really dislike his family so much?

”Zhichen, I have a rough idea of who’s behind this; it’s the person we suspected in our hearts. I saw her face on the surveillance footage; it hasn’t changed a bit from before, and I also found out that she shares the same surname as that person!”
