My Alleged Husband

Chapter 441: Chapter 420 Don’t leave, stay with me a little longer!_1

”Please don’t go, how lonely and boring do you think Grandma feels here all by herself? Stay here and keep me company for a bit longer, chat with me, that would be nice. I won’t force you to do anything else, just stay with Grandma for a while longer, and then you can leave, how about that?”

Zhang Ni thought for a moment and said to Xia Jing, ”I can’t. I have to get back home now. If I don’t, my parents will start to worry. It’s not that I don’t want to stay here and chat with you, Grandma. In fact, I’m happy and I know you’re a really good person, but I can’t just let my parents worry about me, can I? If my actions caused my parents to worry, wouldn’t that make me a bad person?”

Xia Jing still didn’t want Zhang Ni to go back home!

”You don’t have to rush home so quickly. If your parents knew that you were out late doing a good deed, keeping an old person company, they would be happy, right? How could they be mad at you?”

”Even if I were to stay out to keep you company, I should have let my parents know beforehand. I can’t just leave my parents in the dark, staying out by myself and causing them concern. I must be an obedient child and not do anything that would put my parents out or make them worry. I must live my life so that my parents can happily live the life they desire, without anything to interfere with their feelings or the best days of their lives.”

Xia Jing thought that the child was very sensible, but suddenly she wondered if it was really good for such a young child to understand so much. Was it really the best thing for them? Was it truly for their good? Sometimes she couldn’t understand why adults insisted on teaching children such complex principles, burdening them with the knowledge of right and wrong.

”Grandma already said, if your parents knew you were out this late helping the elderly, they would be very happy and wouldn’t be sad or worried at all. Don’t you understand the principle of it? You should consider Grandma’s suggestion. Can’t you bear to leave me all alone here? Grandma knows you’re a very loving child, which is all the more reason for you to stay here with me.”

No, I am a person of principles and although doing this wouldn’t be of any benefit to me, I just cannot do it because it would make my parents worry about me. I can’t do anything that would worry my parents, and I’ve said this many times. I hope you don’t make me repeat myself over and over again because it will make me dislike you, Grandma. I believe you are a good person, which is why I’m speaking to you from the bottom of my heart. But if you keep trying to force me to stay against my will, then I might never come out again. Even if I do, and I see you, I won’t greet you anymore!”

Xia Jing, feeling helpless, could only say, ”Alright, if you are unwilling to stay and keep me company, then I won’t say any more. But I hope that one day you will come out again to keep me company and talk to me more. I believe there will be many such opportunities. Don’t leave me here alone, longing under the dreary sky. The days with you are the happiest for me!”

Zhang Ni felt helpless. What was wrong with this person? Was she going to cling to him every day just because her own grandson was gone? He always felt that something was off with her, always telling him these things without head or tail, making him feel uncomfortable. What was wrong with her really?

”Well, I’ll consider coming out to meet with you if I have time, but I still stand by my word. I won’t do anything that would make my parents unhappy or worried. My parents are most important to me, as well as my great-grandfather. There’s nothing more important than my great-grandfather in my heart. I will always give my parents and my great-grandfather the highest place in my heart. I believe that one day my great-grandfather and my parents will understand the sacrifices I’ve made. I hope that one day my grandparents will realize how wrong they were. I want to prove to the whole world that I’m the strongest, and those who have abandoned me and didn’t want me have made the biggest mistake of their lives. I want them to clearly understand that anything in the world can be abandoned, but my own family cannot be abandoned!”

”Since you’ve promised to spend time with me and meet up for a chat when you can, then you should head home for today. Don’t make your father worry. Grandma didn’t mean any harm. I don’t want my actions to make your parents worry. I also hope your parents will always be by your side. So, I wish that your grandparents return to you soon. But I wonder, when that time comes, will you be able to forgive them?”

”It doesn’t matter whether I forgive them. When they come back, I won’t have any feelings for them. They have never been present from the time I was born until now. I have never even seen them, so I don’t know what they look like. Whether they come back or not isn’t very important to me. What I can’t reconcile is the imbalance in my heart. One day, once I figure it out, I’ll be able to wholly let go of these thoughts and understand how wrong my initial ideas were.”

After saying this, Zhang Ni left the place. Xia Jing watched his retreating figure, feeling an ache in her heart. Why did the things he say make her feel so miserable? Was there an unknown reason or secret behind all this?

Clearly, there was a blood relation between the two, yet neither knew that the other was their kin. How heartsick she must feel, standing right in front of her long-desired relative yet unaware of their connection. If one day they discovered the truth, how would they cope with it?
