My Alleged Husband

Chapter 398: Chapter 377 Full Moon Feast_1

In the blink of an eye, a month had passed, and today marked the one-month celebration of Ran Zhihan and Zhang Yichen’s child, as well as the day Old Master Zhang would officially bestow a name upon the child.

Zhang Yichen looked outward from the gate of the house time and again, hoping her mother and father would return to attend their son’s full-month celebration. Yet no matter what she did, she couldn’t bring herself to expect her parents to come home. Maybe, in her parents’ hearts, she really wasn’t important. Why couldn’t she make her parents yearn to return even now?

Ran Zhihan knew what her husband was truly thinking; his heart was no less troubled than hers. All she hoped for was that her parents would return to attend their son’s full-month celebration. But why was it so difficult? Perhaps, as her husband had surmised in his heart, their family wasn’t important. They had always hoped that they would return home together, but in the end, they were met with disappointment, never contentment. Since the child’s birth, they hadn’t even come to glance at him. Didn’t they, as grandparents, want to see their grandchild?

”Husband, stop standing at the gate like this. If Mom and Dad figure it out, they’ll definitely come back. If they don’t, even if you stand here until dark, they won’t return. One day they will come back together, and that’s what we should be looking forward to, rather than peering out so expectantly. Look at us; we’ve checked over and over, waiting eagerly for Mom and Dad’s return, but what did we get in the end? Nothing but disappointment. Perhaps, right now, we’re not yet in their hearts!”

When Zhang Yichen heard what Ran Zhihan said, he felt terrible inside. It should have been his role, as the husband, to comfort his wife, yet it was she comforted him, which was difficult for him to bear. Although there was nothing wrong with these things, his parents had still chosen to walk away, leaving him to long for their return, and time after time, they disappointed him. What did he, as their son, really mean to them? Did he, his wife, and his son not matter at all in his parents’ hearts?

”Wife, I really can’t understand why, after so much time, Mom and Dad remain so stubborn, refusing to come back together. Do they truly have no place for our family in their hearts? Watching Grandpa grow older day by day pains me. Grandpa doesn’t speak of it, yet his heart also longs for Mom and Dad’s return. But my parents refuse to fulfill our wishes, insisting on opposing us. I just can’t fathom what it would take for my parents to want to come home, to spend time with Grandpa. They owe Grandpa so many years of companionship; will they continue this debt even in his final years?”

”Don’t think so much. Mom and Dad will come back once they understand. And if they don’t, what good will it do to forcibly bring them home? They can only stay if they genuinely want to. We shouldn’t dwell on things that make us unhappy. Today is our son’s full-month celebration, and I’m sure Grandpa will give him a beautiful, grand name. Our son looks so much like you; when I see his face, it’s as if I’m looking right at you. I wonder if my son will grow up to be as accomplished as his father and charm everyone as you do?”

Zhang Yichen knew that when his wife teased him with that last comment, she was mocking his unique and handsome face that had every girl around the world swooning. He had suffered quite a bit trying to escape their adoration.

As the couple spoke back and forth outside, Old Master Zhang walked out from the house. Seeing the couple still looking out expectantly but managing to talk cheerfully, he realized their inner strength was actually quite formidable. Elder Zhang looked outside but didn’t see his son and daughter-in-law’s silhouettes; he knew this time, too, he was destined for disappointment. Perhaps after enough disappointments, one stops caring whether the outcome is satisfactory.

”You two should stop standing outside; there are so many guests inside. Shouldn’t you, as the hosts, go in and mingle? Aren’t you expected to perform the duties of hospitality? With so many guests, is it right for you to just stand out here? They won’t be coming back. People who have made up their minds shouldn’t be given false hopes. If one day, they’re willing to return, the doors of the Zhang family will be open to them. But if they stubbornly refuse, as head of the family, I can do without them. Have you thought about what name I’ve chosen for your son? Do you want to know?”

”Grandpa, please tell us, what is our son’s name? A month has passed, and we’ve all been anticipating the name you would choose. Today, the full month has finally arrived, don’t keep us in suspense any longer. Tell us quickly, and let everyone enjoy the moment. What name have you given our son?”

”Zhang Ni!”

”Zhang Ni, I like this name; it’s very good. Thank you, Grandpa, for taking the trouble to think of such a nice name for my son. You must have had very little rest this month, doing so much for us...”

”Yes, thank you so much, Grandpa. I just don’t know when Mom and Dad will come back. If I have another son, will they come back then?” Zhang Yichen asked.

Hearing his grandson say this, Old Master Zhang felt it was a reminder that if his son and daughter-in-law wanted to return to the family home, there had to be preconditions.
