My Alleged Husband

Chapter 361: Chapter 341 What Did She Say?_1

Zhang Yichen thought he must have misheard, how could his own wife possibly say such things to him? But he later realized it wasn’t a mistake; those words had indeed come from his wife. He watched helplessly as his wife left, disappearing from his sight, and his heart ached terribly, but what could he do? It was the consequence of his own actions he had to bear. If he had known this matter would provoke such a reaction from his wife, he surely wouldn’t have agreed so easily to his father- and mother-in-law’s demands. Now, everything was the bitter fruit of his own planting, how could he possibly expect someone else to pay the debts he owed?

Downstairs, Old Master Zhang heard his grandson and granddaughter-in-law quarreling fiercely. He knew the matter must have been exposed; they were arguing to the point of no return. Apart from this, what else could provoke his gentle daughter-in-law to such fury?

When Ran Zhihan descended the stairs, she encountered Old Master Zhang who said to her, ”My dear daughter-in-law, don’t act so impetuously. Your husband had his reasons; he wanted to prove his love for you and his desire to live with you, so he had no choice but to accept their demands. Since you’re already husband and wife, you should be understanding of each other rather than confronting each other, which only brings shame to the family. I know he was wrong and it deeply hurt you, and that it upsets you, but you should also appreciate his good intentions. If he hadn’t done this, how could he possibly be together with you? And how could your parents be willing to marry you to my grandson? Do you really want to remain apart forever because of your parents? You know how painful it is for two people meant to be together to be kept apart. Can you truly bear to watch your husband suffer to the point of not wanting to live because you can’t be together? Can you really stand to see him wither away, losing weight as he loses the will to eat or drink? I believe this is not the outcome you wish to see because I can tell how much you care about him. You care so much, that’s why you can’t bear it when he agrees to such demands from your parents, right?”

Listening to Old Master Zhang, Ran Zhihan felt very distressed. Why could her own grandfather understand her so well when her husband seemed incapable of doing so? She couldn’t comprehend it. Such a simple issue—why did it seem so complicated in her husband’s eyes? Did he truly think she would agree to any term, just to stay with him? She didn’t want to be that kind of person. What she hoped for was a husband who would be truthful and sincere for life, not one who keeps secrets and lives a lie for the rest of their days. She couldn’t accept this.

”Grandpa, if only my husband could understand me as well as you do. We’ve loved each other for so many years, and it hasn’t been easy to reach this conclusion. I so looked forward to living happily and creating our own world together, moving in step with the rhythm of our wanderings. It is only today I discovered that he agreed to such a significant demand from my parents. That night, when I was outside, he chose to hide it from me, which just shows he didn’t want to tell us. I know he must have felt conflicted, but I am his wife. What could possibly need to be hidden between husband and wife? How much longer was he planning to keep me in the dark? If I hadn’t overheard you talking, would he have intended to never tell me? What I care about isn’t other things, it’s that my loved one is open and honest with me. But to not even be able to do this minimum, it just makes me feel that his happiness doesn’t care for me as much as I imagined. I have valued that so much, for him, I was even ready to sever ties with my own parents, to leave home for him. Yet, what did he do? To be with me, he agreed to my parents’ unreasonable conditions, which meant I couldn’t have our own child for three years. Grandpa, I’m sure deep down you wish to see the fruit of love between me and your grandson soon, right? In your eyes, you know your grandson made such a decision, and like me, you can’t accept it. I’m in that state now; I can’t handle this outcome. I trust him so much and hope to conceive the fruit of our love together, but why did he do this? Did you suggest it because it was out of love for me? Is ’because of love’ truly a free pass to make mistakes? I gave him all the leeway, but what did his trust ultimately give me? I never imagined he would treat me like this, do the lies even matter anymore? He agreed to such disrespectful demands from my parents. If he had told me about these things earlier, I would have certainly prevented such events from happening between us. But what else did he think of besides the continuous deceptions? Didn’t he ever consider telling me the whole truth? I gave him the chance that night, when I asked him why, but he never answered. Since he initially chose to keep it from me, he shouldn’t expect me to continue being with him now. It’s pointless. We’ve just finished our wedding, and if we were to divorce now, the public opinion wouldn’t be favorable. I don’t want our relationship to impact the future of Zhang Corporation, or your reputation, Grandpa. Please, don’t tell him about this. These next few days, I’ll be staying at a close friend’s place. I don’t want to return home and lie in the same bed with him because I’d feel uncomfortable knowing that he began our relationship with a lie. I can’t accept this happening to me, and yet, against my wishes, it happened. Maybe a temporary departure is the best solution.”
