My Alleged Husband

Chapter 356: Chapter 336 Telling Tales_1

Ran Zhihan thought it over and decided to agree with her husband for the time being, so he wouldn’t constantly nag in her ear nonstop. She would look for a chance to speak with her grandfather later to ask if he knew why this was happening.

”Alright, husband, since you’ve said so much, I won’t press the matter further. I’ll go along with your decision, but I hope you won’t keep anything from me in the future. I know you’ve hidden the truth of this matter from me, but I chose not to bring it up because I believe you must have had a compelling reason. I don’t want to corner you step by step because that would make life exhausting for both of us!”

”Thank you, my dear. Since you’re not thinking about arguing with me on this topic anymore, let’s get some rest together!”

”You go to sleep first, husband. I just remembered I brought something for Grandfather, and I haven’t given it to him yet. I want to deliver it to Grandfather by myself. Wait here for me, don’t wander off. I’ll be back in half an hour, okay?”

Zhang Yichen didn’t think anything else. He didn’t watch the expression on his wife’s face; he simply thought his wife genuinely wanted to give her grandfather a present that a granddaughter-in-law should bring for an elder. So, he let his wife go, but what he didn’t realize was that his wife wasn’t going to give a gift, but to seek the truth.

Knock knock knock...

Old Master Zhang heard a knocking at his bedroom door and became curious. Who would be knocking at his bedroom door in the dead of night? Weren’t his grandson and granddaughter-in-law supposed to be resting? It couldn’t be his grandson and granddaughter-in-law knocking at his door, could it?

Old Master Zhang walked over and opened the door, stunned to see his granddaughter-in-law standing outside his room. He hadn’t expected it to really be the granddaughter-in-law he had longed for so much. He didn’t understand why she was not resting with his grandson but had come to him at such a late hour. Could something have happened?

”Zhihan, it’s so late—why aren’t you asleep? Is there something you need from Grandfather?”

”I’m sorry to disturb your rest, Grandfather, but there’s something I just can’t figure out, so I wanted to ask you; do you think you could tell me the truth about it?”

”Well, since you’re here, just say whatever you want to say. If I know anything, I’ll definitely tell you.”

”Thank you, Grandpa. Grandpa, I want to ask, why doesn’t my husband want to have a child with me, the fruit of our love? I really don’t understand. On our wedding night, he made this request—that we don’t have a child within three years. I don’t understand. Now that we are married, what is it that we can’t have? Could it be that he really has something he needs to hide from me, something he refuses to let me know?” Ran Zhihan finally voiced her doubts to Old Master Zhang.

Old Master Zhang was baffled too. It was the first time he had heard his grandson express unwillingness to have children. He couldn’t think of any reason why his grandson would make such an unreasonable request. Could there really be some significant reason behind it?

”I don’t quite understand the matter with the child either, because I haven’t heard him mention it before. If I knew, I would definitely tell you. But it’s really puzzling to me: You’ve become husband and wife, why would he make such an unreasonable request of you? If I have the chance, I will surely ask him about it. For now, don’t be overly suspicious. Just live well together with him. Once I find out the truth behind all these matters, I will definitely let you know. Can you now go back to sleep with your mind at ease?”

”Grandpa, actually, there’s been a question on my mind—his making such an impolite request, is it because he regrets marrying me? If that’s the case, then I wouldn’t force him to stay with me. But he doesn’t need to hurt me with such words. For me, to have a child born of love with the man I love is such an important and sacred matter. Yet, why does it seem so trivial in his eyes? I consider him as the most important man in my life, the one I love the most. I tried so hard, risking everything to be with him, giving up so much just to have a life together with him. But now that we are finally married, he’s making this request. Grandpa, I really find it hard to accept!”

”Child, you understand what you are feeling inside, and I can understand why you are so anxious. But many things can’t be rushed. Haste does not bring success, you know. Some things need to be taken step by step, slowly. Maybe he really has some unspeakable difficulties. When he thinks it through, he’ll make the right decision. You and your husband should trust each other more and not doubt each other so easily, because trust is really important for two people in love!”

”Grandpa, I know how important trust is for two people in love, and I understand how significant it is. But I just can’t understand why, when I care about him so much, he would make such a suggestion. I’m afraid to face him because I’m scared he will keep on lying to me, one lie after another. Grandpa, do you know? Facing lies from the one you love is torture. You know they are lying to you, but you can’t expose them because you want to preserve their dignity. You can’t let them lose face in front of you!”

Old Master Zhang hadn’t expected his grandson to say such a thing, which truly surprised him. Before the marriage, it wasn’t like this at all. So why did things change after getting married? Could there really be some hidden story?

”Child, don’t think too much about it. Go back and sleep peacefully. Just pretend none of this ever happened, as if you haven’t said any of this to me. I will secretly investigate everything, and once I find out the true story, I will certainly tell you!”

”Thank you, Grandpa. I’m sorry for disturbing you so late at night. Please, don’t tell my husband about this. I don’t want to have a conflict with him just after getting married. Let’s pretend this conversation never happened.”

After speaking, Ran Zhihan left Old Master Zhang’s room. As she walked, she wondered why her husband wouldn’t tell her the truth. Could it have something to do with her parents? She had her suspicions about many things, but she lacked concrete evidence to prove any of it was the truth.
