My Alleged Husband

Chapter 359: Chapter 339: Face is More Important than Me_1

Ran Zhihan had been feeling even more unbalanced internally since discovering that her parents had spoken such words to her husband. She had never imagined that her parents would treat this matter as a transaction, seeing her merely as an ordinary trading platform. Despite being used as a trading invoice for so many years, she thought there should be some affection. But why could they remain so indifferent?

When Zhang Yichen came upstairs and saw his beloved wife still lying in bed sleeping, he found it rather unbelievable. However much his wife loved to sleep, it was inconceivable she hadn’t woken up by now. He was unaware that she had already learned the entire truth, and it was he who had inadvertently let it slip. If he knew his wife was aware of the truth because of him, how guilty would he feel inside? He had clearly never wanted his wife to suffer any harm, but in the end, he couldn’t ensure she’d live a happy life. By letting his wife be harmed, he had breached the promise he had made as a man.

”Wife, what’s wrong with you? The sun is already shining on your bum, yet you haven’t risen earlier as usual. You never used to oversleep before. Are you troubled by something today? You seem a little unhappy. Even though your eyes are closed, I can feel the unhappiness in your heart!”

Ran Zhihan really wanted to leap up and question her husband right away, ”Clearly, the truth about this matter lies with my own parents, so why didn’t you tell me?” She dearly wanted to utter this question, yet she didn’t know how to bring it up and could only continue feigning sleep with her eyes open.

”Lazy pig, time to get up. The sun is already shining on your bum, stop sleeping, come on, get up...”

Ran Zhihan held back but couldn’t restrain herself any longer.

”Zhang Yichen, do you really consider me your wife? Do you truly see me as part of your family? Do you view me as the wife you wish to spend the rest of your life with?”

Zhang Yichen couldn’t comprehend why his wife would suddenly ask such a question. He was utterly perplexed. Could it be that his wife had found out something? But that was impossible, he hadn’t let anything slip, how could she possibly know? Had someone betrayed him?

”Silly pig, why would you say that? Of course, I consider you my wife, you are the woman I love the most in this lifetime, and we are meant to spend the rest of our lives together. But why would you suddenly ask me this question?”

”I’ll give you one more chance, answer me honestly. The request you made on our wedding night, that we avoid having a child of love for three years, does it have anything to do with my parents or something else? Tell me the truth. If you can’t be honest with me, then we shouldn’t be together, because I don’t want to be with someone who can’t be sincere with me.”

Zhang Yichen was stunned. His wife really knew something.

”Silly pig, why would you say such a thing? Did someone tell you something, or what? You’ve never said this to me before, but saying it today really makes me feel uncomfortable. Can you please tell me why you felt you had to say these things to me?”

”What for, don’t you know? Don’t you realize how much I desired to be with you, to have a symbol of our love? Yet on our wedding night, you made such a request of me. How can my heart accept it? Even if you had to make that request, you should have waited until after we were married and found the right moment to suggest it, instead of declaring it outright. Did you ever consider my feelings? If you really saw me as part of your family, you wouldn’t have spoken to me like that from the start. In your heart, I will never be worth as much as the benefits brought by my parents. Do you view me simply as an item that can be treated carelessly and used for bartering? Using me as a bargaining chip—I know you agreed to my parents’ terms only so that you could be with me, but you should have told me about it beforehand. Why didn’t you tell me? Is it because deep down you feel the same, which is why you’ve kept it from me until now?”

”How could you think that? I’ve never thought of you that way, and thinking so would cause me such pain, do you understand? I value you so much, but why would you say these things to me? You are my wife, and I will ensure that you face no hardship for the rest of your life. I acknowledge the harm this situation has caused you today is my fault—I shouldn’t have kept this from you. But I had no choice when your parents made their demand. How could I have brought you home if I hadn’t agreed? It’s the only way I could keep you with me and take care of you for a lifetime. I realize my actions were selfish, but can’t you empathize with my feelings? I had no other option, and if your parents hadn’t set those terms, I would never have made such a decision. We could have had a child born from our love, but what can we do now that it’s already happened? I made a promise to your parents, and now that I’ve given them my word, I must keep it. Would you have me lose face entirely?”

Ran Zhihan laughed. It turned out that all this talk from her husband was about his so-called face. Is ’face’ really what matters most to a man? Is being a wife not important enough? After all, she was a living person. Why treat herself this way, making such demands on the first day of marriage, and then having a huge argument with her the day after?

”In your eyes, your face is very important, right? You can make that promise to my parents for your pride and dignity, and I can understand that. But now you’re asking me to consider your face and to empathize with you. That only makes me feel that, in your heart, I am less important than your face. I could sacrifice everything to be with you, but I can’t stand by and watch the man I love deceive me time and again. That is something I can never tolerate in my lifetime!”
