My Alleged Husband

Chapter 394: Chapter 373: The Son is Born_1

Li Haixiao was still discussing his kidney issue with Old Master Zhang when the old man’s phone rang. Seeing that it was a call from his grandson, he hurriedly picked up. He was overjoyed by what his grandson told him and immediately headed to the hospital.

”Grandpa, where did you go? My son has already arrived, and you’re not here. What are you busy with right now?” Zhang Yichen said to Old Master Zhang.

Old Master Zhang was thrilled beyond words. He told Zhang Yichen, ”Wait for me, your grandpa will be at the hospital right away, just wait, wait!”

By the time Old Master Zhang arrived at the hospital, Zhang Yichen’s son had already been born.

”Grandpa, you’ve come too late. My son has already been born into this world. Now you’re a great-grandfather. I really don’t know what you were up to, arriving at the hospital so late. Didn’t you know? My wife almost had a difficult labor today, and both my son and my wife nearly died. Why weren’t you in a hurry?”

”It’s not that grandpa wasn’t in a hurry. I was also busy with important matters. If I had known earlier, I wouldn’t have gone to see your aunt’s father today. Li Jiayuan’s father has already learned the truth at my place, and he’s now extremely emotional. I’m also worried about him. I was afraid that upon hearing the truth, he might not be able to catch his breath and would leave this world just like that. Then everyone still alive would blame me!”

”Alright, grandpa, I don’t want to talk about anything else now. I just want to go see my wife. She must be exhausted. She still hasn’t woken up. She gave me a big, chubby son, did you know? That’s my son, I’m a dad now...”

”We’ll go see her together, to see if she’s woken up yet. We can’t let her be too weak. I have to go home and stew lots of nourishing soups for her!”

Ran Zhihan had just woken up in the ward when she heard her grandfather talking about making her many rich soups. She almost fainted; she had drunk those powerful and deadly soups every day before giving birth to the child. Now that the child had been born, surely she wouldn’t have to continue with those awful soups, right?

When Old Master Zhang and his grandson entered the ward and saw their grandson’s wife awake, both of them were extremely happy.

Zhang Yichen walked to the bedside, took his wife’s hands in his own, and tenderly said to her, ”Wife, thank you, thank you for enduring such hardship to bring our son into this world for me. Thank you for giving me hope to live for, thank you for providing the Zhang family with an heir, thank you. Having you is simply the greatest blessing of my life. You rest up here, I’ll go back and make you lots of delicious food!”

At this moment, the doctor came in. Old Master Zhang addressed the doctor, ”Doctor, my granddaughter-in-law, she doesn’t have any problems, does she? I see she’s very weak; could it be nutritional deficiencies?”

President Zhang, you’ve misunderstood. Actually, it’s because your granddaughter-in-law drank too many nourishing soups during her pregnancy that she had such good strength; she gave birth to the child so quickly. The pregnant women I’ve seen before often have a big hemorrhage not long into the birthing process and take several hours to regain consciousness post-delivery. However, your granddaughter-in-law, because she drank so much nourishing soup, had better resistance than anyone else and regained consciousness much faster than those other pregnant women!”

Upon hearing his doctor say that his granddaughter-in-law could recover so quickly thanks to the nourishing soups he had stewed during her pregnancy, Elder Zhang was even more delighted inside. By then, he had made up his mind to hurry back home and make more nourishing soups for her. He wanted his granddaughter-in-law to become plump and healthy during her postpartum recovery, ensuring she had plenty of breast milk to feed his great-grandson.

Ran Zhihan originally disliked the fact that she had been made to drink so many nourishing soups, which almost made her sick during her pregnancy. Yet, she reluctantly kept on drinking. She had been greatly dissatisfied with her grandfather for the excessive soups. But now, It seemed she owed her grandfather a great deal for the effort he put into those street stalls during her pregnancy, or else she wouldn’t have delivered her child so smoothly. If not for this, she might have been like other pregnant women, lying on the surgical table, possibly never able to get down again. Just now, she heard her grandfather say he was going back home to stew nourishing soup for her and she didn’t object; she didn’t want to disappoint her grandfather’s good intentions once again. Her grandfather had been so good to her, treated her as his dearest granddaughter-in-law; how could she hurt her grandfather’s kind, aging heart time and again?

”Grandpa, I’m sorry. When I was pregnant, you made me drink those soups, and I resented you for making me drink them every day, the same nourishing soups, despite their variety. But I still felt they would become tiresome. However, today I want to thank you. Without you, I wouldn’t have had such a smooth delivery. You brought me and my son safely into this world. Grandpa, thank you. May I boldly ask if I could have some more of the nourishing soup you make? I promise I won’t feel nauseous about your soup like I did before; I will drink it peacefully because you’ve given me a sense of security.”

”Of course, my child. Grandpa was going to make you nourishing soup anyway. If I don’t take good care of you during your postpartum recovery, what if you fall ill later on? You just wait here; Grandpa will go home now and stew the nourishing soup for you, okay?”

”Grandpa, you really don’t need to stew it yourself; I would be happy if you just went out to buy some.”

Ran Zhihan didn’t want her elder grandfather to have to go back and stew nourishing soup for her at his age. She felt somewhat guilty – why was she always troubling her grandpa? He was already of such advanced age, did he really need to go to the trouble of making her nourishing soup personally? When she herself had made it before, she had been so picky, never satisfied. Why should she make things difficult for her grandfather now?

”Silly child, you just wait. Grandpa will go home and make it for you now...”
