My Alleged Husband

Chapter 387: 366 Chapter Care from the Husband_1

”I understand. Actually, the person I’m most grateful for is you. Without you, I wouldn’t have achieved what I have today. From the very first day I started my business, you’ve been by my side, through thick and thin. Without you, I wouldn’t have the success I have now. Many issues were resolved thanks to you. You have indeed sacrificed a lot for me, and all I could offer was a secretary position. You should understand, being my secretary, your position is higher than even the company’s General Manager. In my heart, you are the Vice President of our company. After a while, I’ll make you the VP officially. I’ll announce it in front of all the shareholders present in the company. I hope that by then, you can help me run the company well, because my wife should be about to give birth around then. I need to be at home to support her. I can’t miss every day of my son’s life when he is born. I want my son to understand how much his dad cares, how much I love him, and how I would do anything for him.”

”Actually, you don’t have to make me the company’s Vice President. Just being a humble secretary by your side, I’m already very content. It’s not that I have done you a favor, but rather, you have done me one. You gave me the chance of a lifetime. Without you, I wouldn’t have achieved what I have today. If you hadn’t persuaded me to join you in creating this business, I wouldn’t be where I am right now. You’ve taken me from the lower class to the upper echelons of society, something I am deeply thankful for. If not for you, I don’t know where I might be, possibly still being trampled on by others and unable to turn the tide. I owe my achievements to you. Anything I do for you is only right. Please, take good care of your wife at home! She really needs your company. And the company has me. I will guard everything that you care about...”

”Good buddy, my true brother, you’re so loyal. When my son is born, I’ll definitely have him recognize you as his godfather. I want him to follow you and learn from your spirit!”

Although Zhang Yichen said this to his secretary, he still hoped to give the position of Vice President to his secretary. He knew that his secretary didn’t care much for fame or wealth, but he wanted him to understand that after working so hard for him, he surely deserved some reward. He couldn’t be so selfish. He wanted his secretary to enjoy the finer things daily, just as he did. He was principled in that way, committed to taking care of those who lent him a helping hand in his hardest times. Conversely, someone who had wronged him when he was down would find every path ahead blocked when he climbed back to prosperity.

After finishing his talk with his secretary, Zhang Yichen hurried home to his wife. He was increasingly eager to be with her, as she was carrying their child and it wasn’t easy for her to get around. He feared even the slightest harm might come to her. If he wasn’t by her side for even two hours, his heart would race anxiously. Only by having her in his sight could he work with peace of mind.

Upon reaching home, he saw his wife still cooking in the kitchen. Panic-stricken, he rushed into the kitchen and took over her cooking tasks.

”Honey, how can you do such labor? You’re carrying our child. That’s for two, not just one. Leave the strenuous work, and just relax in the living room. Let me cook something delicious and bring it to you, okay?”

Ran Zhihan felt moved by her husband’s words, but she didn’t want him to juggle work and look after her. It pained her heart. Even though her husband’s intentions sprung from love, she couldn’t accept him being pulled in two directions. She would rather age a bit than have him run himself ragged for her sake.

”Husband, it’s fine. It’s just cooking, isn’t it? I just haven’t cooked in a while and wanted to stretch my muscles. Do you expect me to sit at home all day, entirely sedentary like a lazy pig? If I did that, our son might look down on his mother. It’s not tiring at all, nor heavy. Think about it. Grandpa is old, yet he still prepares those nourishing soups for me every day. Isn’t he tired? As the younger generation, shouldn’t we relieve our elders from such toils? If we can do something ourselves, then we should, without burdening them. Grandpa needs rest; he can’t take this repeated exertion. Now, our son grows crazily in my belly, knowing that if his mom ever mistreated his great-grandfather, he certainly wouldn’t respect his mom. I don’t want him to think I’m a bad mom from the moment he’s born, do you?”

”Even so, you still shouldn’t exhaust yourself like this. It breaks my heart to see you laboring away in the kitchen. Don’t you know how worried I am? Can you bear watching your husband so anxious that he can’t focus at work?”

”My dear husband, I know you mean well, but you should consider things from my perspective too. Doing this is good for our baby’s development. Many pregnant women stay inactive each day, and then their kids aren’t as well-developed. Don’t you want our son to inherit your handsome genes?”

Zhang Yichen’s heart deflated as soon as he heard his wife suggest that their son might not inherit his good looks.

”Alright, alright, I can’t out-argue you. You can exercise a little bit daily, but don’t overdo it, or I’ll get upset!”

Ran Zhihan gave Zhang Yichen a kiss, and he smiled happily.
